Todays paintings!! The first one is one i finished off from monday. I was quite happy with this one and ive found ive become a lot quicker with how long it takes me to do my paintings. I wanted to focus more on the colour of this one instead of the little details which i did previously.

After i finished this one i wanted to do a monochrome one to try focus on tonal values instead of detail or colour.

This still isnt fully finished hopefully ill find a bit of time this week to finish it off but i think the start of it gave me some good practice for tonal values

I also wanted to get a bit more still life practice in today so i did a quick little sketch of a flower. I went straight in with marker to try and challenge myself again to be looser with my sketches.

I ended up being quite happy with the sketch so i used acrylic markers to give it a bit of extra colour yay

I think i locked in and got loads done today so im happy enough with everything

Artists Studio Day 3

On Thursday I started adding layers to my paintings using lighter shades of the three colours I used already (red, orange and green). I continuously mixed these colours with white to make them lighter.

Here is after the first layer.

This is after the second layer which I really like as you can see the shadows of the colours as intended.

Here is the third layer of the lighter shades. With each lighter shade I used a smaller brush to avoid covering the previous layer completely. I used the very tip of the brush and dabbed it on lightly.

In this I used solid white. Eoin had advised me to not use solid white so I used it on one just to see why he recommended not to use it. After applying the white I understood why. It distracts from the background colours but I also thing I appied it on too heavily.

This is the finished collection. I added very little bits of white to the rest of the pages and I think they came out a lot better as it is less distracting and blends in well.

I really enjoyed this workshop as when I've painted previously I got very stressed the image I was referencing was very detailed and I was trying to get it as accurate as possible. But in this workshop I got to take a more abstract approach which was really fun for a change.

I'm happy with the outcome as there was a process before it where I learn new ways to paint and got to experiment and figure out what worked and what didn't.

Painting workshop day 2

This is my favourite piece I’ve made during our consumption and production project.

I got the chance to work on canvas which was a really nice change from working on the brown paper. I was able to apply a lot more layers and lean a little harder.

I do wish I had added in the background before I started painting because I’m afraid I will ruin the painting if I add it in now.

Grandma trump! This painting took me the longest and is based off my favourite sketchbook page. I've been putting off starting it as I thought I would struggle, but instead when I eventually caved and began painting I really enjoyed it and got into a very nice rhythm.

I did find mixing colours difficult as I found myself unable to mix the exact colour i needed always going too dark. I do enjoy how my more cartoony style came out in paint and would like to explore this medium more in the future, perhaps in a smaller scale.

These are some quick paintings that i did based on amazon boxes. I was trying to figure out what colours i liked and getting used to the paint. I really likedthe look of the red because it is a loud colour that lends to the intensity of my theme (the wastefulness of overconsumption)

Using the box of mud as a tool by putting the paper inbetween the box and lid and turning it over and shaking it up. It created these cool textures that felt a lot like the patterns of Gilbert and George, who Eoin gave me a book on

I painted colour on them but I'm not yet sure what direction exactly I want to take them

I was really happy with how this painting turned out! It’s a more darling colour scheme than my usual paintings and I liked the red shadow hiding some of the figure to tell the story of the painting! I really enjoyed mixing my own colours and building my own palette of colours.

I think this painting shows obscured effect cameras and social media can have on our self perception, causing dysmorphia. Also trying so hard to capture moments on camera or for social media can take away from the actual experience.

I used cardbord and paint to make a short animation of a box spinning around. I found it difficult to find the width for every frame, as the width would change as the box spins. This is why I created a little contraption that looks at the box from birds eye view to see the width from different perspectives. @eoinmclsad

Paint workshop

On the first day of this workshop we were encouraged to work quickly on a big scale. We mixed paint and worked only from primary colours and white. I focused on creating quick paintings of apple cores and trying my best to accurately match the colours

Painting workshop Day 1 progress. I was interested in trying to capture movement and light in these pieces to express the energy of dancing and music. i tried multiple different styles and techniques to do this, including using different size and length paintbrushes and palette knives to apply the paint.
