     The psychic approached Hilda, smiling her biggest, cutest smile. “Hiiiiiya there!” Hey, hey, you, you, do you have a girlfriend? No way, no way, I think you need to get one, and that girlfriend ought’a be me! Yeah, yeah, yeah!

     “You’re not the boss of me, lady.” With a heavy-set frown, I ask, “What’s your problem? Did your face get stuck that way when you were born? Or are you just an ass, like the Joker?”

     “I never said I was the boss of you, I just—” Latias cut off. “Eh?! I was just kidding! I wasn’t trying to be mean or anything!” She frowned. “I don’t...think I’m an ass? I mean, am I? Was I being an ass? I’m sorry!”

     Oh my god. Did you seriously just do that? And in my fuckin’ house, too? 

     I roll over, stand up, and grab Latias’s shoulders. Then, with the most shiver-inducing voice possible, I ask, “Did you just tell me to ‘chill?’”

     “Yup, sure did!” Latias grinned, absolutely 100% not intimidated. “’Cause you need to!”

     “Eh… eheh… you’re prob’ly right,” I say, lying face down on the floor. “And if you ain’t, then I guess I had a good run. I mean, I lived for seventeen years, right? I drew a bit. I wrote some gay shit–… okay, maybe a lot of gay shit, but, uh, anyway–”

     “’Kay, listen, nobody’s gonna kill you, you don’t hafta go reminiscing about your whole life just ‘cause I kissed you on the cheek. I kiss my brother on the cheek all the time, it’s no biggie, mister!” She leaned over and poked the back of his head. “Chill.”

     Oh, god. Oh, no. This wasn’t a part of the plan– “H-Hey!” I say, blushing from head to toe. “I was just kidding!” Quickly, I scramble away from the psychic. Then, after sucking in several deep breaths, I wail, “MY BOYFRIEND’S GONNA KILL ME! FUCK, FUCK, FUCK…”

     “Oops, sorry,” Latias said, frowning. “I didn’t realize you were joking. That stuff doesn’t bother me so much, so I just did it. C-Chill out! It didn’t mean anything, I’m sure he won’t kill you!”

     “Whoa, whoa, whoa,” I say, holding my hands in the air. “Hold up for a sec, dude. Do you know what you just touched? You touched the kissing stone! And do you know what that means?

     “…It means you gotta kiss me!”

     “Oh no! How awful! What ever shall I do?” Latias giggled, leaned up, and smecked him on the cheek. “Mwah~! There ya go.”

♡ LATIAS LOOKED AT him almost as if she could hear what he was thinking, and Edward didn’t like that. However, he could not say anything about it because, quite suddenly, she was in his face.

     The wizard flinched hard.

     “Back off,” he said, though it didn’t sound very threatening–in fact, it sounded more like a warning. “If you’ve got any brain cells in that big head of yours, you’ll keep your distance!”

     Confusion filled Latias’ gaze and she pulled back. “Woah, hey, I’m not gonna hurt you or anything.” She put her hands up in surrender. “You just...looked sad. And I wanted to help, y’know? I’m not going to do anything bad to you.” 

     Her hand reached out. It hovered over Edward’s shoulder. Usually, she hated touching people, but...she wanted to help him. She hated seeing people unhappy, and...he was. 

     She pulled back, her mask of happiness disappearing for a moment or two, and dropped her hand back to her side. It was not worth it. Maybe she could solve the problem without that.

     “L-Let me...let me help you. Please?”

     “…The name’s Ed. Do me a favor and learn it, would you?”

     “Yeah, okay.” Latias leaned into his face a little. “...Hey. Are you alright, Ed?”

♡ THE WIZARD LOOKED beyond Latias’s shoulder to the end of the street. It seemed this lane was deserted, because there was no one on the sidewalk or the road. “Yup,” said Edward. He slid his gaze back to the psychic. “I totally can! And it’ll be easy as pie, too.”

     His hands hovered over Latias’s palms. Carefully, he eyed her. But there was nothing much to see; her vision was shuddered just like he had requested. 

     “Don’t freak out,” murmured the wizard while strings emerged from his fingertips, “but this might tickle a little, ’kay?” 

     The strings melted into Latias’s skin. Then, they stitched it up. 

     “Alright, you can open your eyes now.”

     Even though Edward had warned her, Latias flinched at the tickling sensation on her stinging palms. However, the stinging went away soon enough, and all that was left was a slight tingling in her skin. Whatever Edward had done, it worked.

     Latias opened her eyes when she was given permission. She looked down at her previously scratched up hands, and there was not a single scratch to be seen.

     She looked up at Edward. A big smile fitted itself nicely on her face. “You totally fixed them up! They look good as new! Better than before, even, maybe.” She looked down and flexed her fingers. “Thank you so much, mister! I dunno what you did, but whatever it was, you sure did a good job.”

♡ “YEAH, NO KIDDING.” Edward side-eyed Latias’s palms. His stomach rolled at the blood dripping down them. “Eh… you’re gonna need some serious patchwork to fix those up.”

    An idea struck the wizard. It was stupid, ill-advised, and reckless. But he lived for that kind of thing, and so he simply grinned. “Actually,” he said, “I can take care of it. But you’ve gotta close your eyes, and keep ’em shut! Got it?”

     Latias was not as worried about the blood as she was about what Latios would think. She hated to make him worry about her. He had enough to worry about as it was. “Yeah. I know. It’ll be fine, though.” Just as she was about to try and search through her purse for something to hide the scrapes, Edward spoke.

     “Huh?” she asked, looking up at him. “You can fix it? Wowie, I’d totally appreciate it if you did.” Latias held her hands out to him, stood up straight as a board, and squeezed her eyes shut so tight that her whole face scrunched up. “I’m not looking! I promise!”

♡ EDWARD LOOKED PALE and peevish; he remembered the last time someone had run into him. It had changed his life. And now, it looked like it was about to happen again.

    Was he ready?

    “Eh?” The wizard stared down at Latias, shocked. She hadn’t run into him–instead, she had fallen onto the concrete. Without meaning to, Edward let out a sigh of relief. Then, he nudged the psychic’s shoe with his own. “Um… you all right? That looked like a pretty rough landing–I mean, it couldn’t’ve been more than a 2 outta 10!”

     Sheepishly, Latias rubbed at the back of her neck. She looked up at the wizard she’d almost run into, and she smiled. “Yeah! I’m just fine. It was a pretty bad landing, though, huh?” She pulled herself off of the ground, and brushed off her skirt.

     “I’d give it a 1 out of 10. Very poorly executed.” And then she grinned and giggled. “Sorry I almost ran into you. I should’ve watched where I was going! Eheh.” 

     Then, Latias looked down, and noticed the pinpricks of blood bubbling up from scrapes on her palms. “Oh jeez. What’s big brother gonna say about this...?”

     “Eek! Watch out, mister!” Latias’ shoes skidded across the sidewalk to slow herself down, but in the process, she ended up falling backward and landing on her butt. “Owwie...”

    “What? The whole light?” Ko muttered something under his breath. It sounded suspiciously like, What is my mom paying taxes for? Then, he fiddled around with some of the wires. After ripping and reconnecting several of them, he shut the little box, pressed the button, and waited.

    When the light changed, a string of pings started up, signifying that Ko had successfully fixed the light. However, since he couldn’t see… “Is it working?”

     Latias watched as Ko worked on the wires. Curiosity shined brightly behind her eyes and she leaned over his shoulder to get a better look. Then, suddenly, Ko shut the little box, and Latias looked up at the light. It was back on.

     “Holy wow! You totally fixed it!” She grinned. “You’re amazing! You must be really smart.” Latias trotted over to the edge of the crosswalk and, after teetering on the edge of the sidewalk for a second as she often did, skipped out into the street. “There aren’t any cars coming, anyway. You’re free to go!”
