Greetings Riders!
We’d like to welcome our new member, Medic, to our free company. We’re happy to help with anything you may need.
Congratulations to Sionann & X’shanti, who are the first to obtain their Atma weapons. Best of luck to everyone in their quest for Atma/Animus.
Our free company now holds the rank of Allied with the twin adder, which is the highest possible rank at the present. Thank you to everyone who has made it possible to achieve this milestone.

Saturday morning, YoshiP brought us his fourteenth Live Letter, discussing what's coming in Patch 2.28, as well as covering some of the major features of Patch 2.3. Here's a summary of the announcements:
Patch 2.28 was originally planned for 28 May, but SE had some issues in their office building, so it's being delayed slightly to no later than 5 June.
Zodiac Weapons
The Zodiac Weapons questline will continue in 2.28, allowing your Animus weapon to be upgraded to a Novus weapon.
The Novus weapons will be i110, with more upgrades coming in future patches, and they will look different than Animus weapons.
Novus weapons will be the first customizable Zodiac weapons; presumably this means that you'll be able to choose the stats you upgrade as part of the Novus questline.
Upgrading from Animus to Novus will involve getting Sphere Scrolls; in order to use them, you'll need Alexandrite, a new currency being introduced in Patch 2.28. It's not clear whether this will be capped (like Tomestones), but there will be multiple ways of earning it.
They don't have any immediate plans to adjust the difficulty of the Atma and Animus quests in either 2.28 or 2.3, but they may do so in the future. However, they do plan to increase the number of Mythology tomestones dropped (and add more places to get them) in the near future, so that it will be easier to obtain Trials of the Braves books.
What's coming in Patch 2.28?
Adjustments to the behaviour of pets when jumping -- I'm not sure exactly what this means.
New objectives in the Challenge Log
A new feature called the "Sightseeing Log," which is a series of locations that you'll have to reach by climbing/jumping. The locations will be provided through hints and riddles that you'll need to decipher.
Filtering and sorting options will be added to the Expert Delivery window.
Adjustments will be made to PvP, including making all skills available at Rank 0 and allowing free skill respecs.
You'll be able to queue for Leviathan (Extreme) and Thornmarch (Extreme) using the Duty Finder and without needing a full premade party.
The Echo buff will now affect Summoner and Scholar pets.
Filtering options will be added to the Crafting Log.
You'll be able to see a map of gathering nodes from the Gathering Log.
When a Disciple of the Hand repairs an item, its durability will go up by 100%, up to a maximum of 199%.
An option will be added to automatically sort the party list when you enter an instance.
You'll be able to queue for Expert and High-Level Duty Roulettes as a party.
You'll be able to give out Player Commendations even if you queued for the duty as part of a party.
The ability to preview what gear looks like on your character before you buy it will be added to NPC vendors, Market Boards, and crafting menus. This may also be implemented on treasure chest drops and quest rewards in the future.
Adjustments will be made to the Party Finder. (No word on what those are; we'll have to wait for the patch notes.)
FATE progress will now be displayed on the map.
You'll be able to click an aetheryte on the map to teleport to it.
New text commands to clear your chat logs will be added.
A list of available text commands will now be available in-game, so you don't have to go to the Lodestone to look them up.
You'll be able to press L1+R1 on a controller to dismount.
Characters' titles will now display on their nameplates.
An option to automatically skip cutscenes you've already seen will be added.
When 2.28 drops, Fantasia will be made available for purchase through the Mog Station. See below for details.
New standing and sitting poses will be added:
Fantasia
Fantasia will be purchaseable on an account-wide level (all your existing characters will receive whatever you buy).
Three purchase options will initially be available: one, three, and five phials. You can only buy each option once, so you'll only be able to buy nine phials total. The ability to buy as many as you need will be available in the future.
They'll be delivered to you via mooglemail and cannot be traded.
They're looking at pricing them around 1000 Yen, so probably $10?
Patch 2.3 Tidbits
Patch 2.3 will be entitled "Defenders of Eorzea."
A new Primal, Ramuh, will be added, with both Hard and Extreme modes.
Ramuh will mainly drop i100 accessories, with i100 weapons being dropped rarely. There will also be a rare mount drop.
You don't have to do the Sylph beast tribe quests to unlock Ramuh, but they will provide a lore background for the fight.
Three new dungeons: Hullbreaker Isle, Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard), and Stone Vigil (Hard). Not much information about them other than there'll be a fight with a "kraken that FF fans are familiar with."
A new system will be added for crafters: Item Desynthesis. More details on that below.
A new feature that they're calling Hunts will be added; see below for more details.
BLM will be receiving a buff to increase its single-target DPS; they're also looking into adjustments to other jobs.
The ability to respec your chocobo's abilities will be added.
New Main Scenario and Hildebrand quests will be added.
Personal rooms in FC housing will be added.
A new PvP mode, Frontline, will be added.
More Crystal Tower content will be added, and it will drop Oils and Sands of Time.
A chocobo breeding system will be added.
More details on Frontline, CT, and chocobo breeding will be coming in the next Live Letter on 12 June.
A new vanity gear set called "Night Wear" -- possibly sleeping clothes?
Item Desynthesis
This system involves breaking items down into crafting materials. Unlike similar systems in other games, this isn't just pressing a button and getting mats -- it involves using specific skills in order to break down the item, and was designed specifically for crafters to enjoy.
When you reach level 30 in a Discipline of the Hand, you'll get a Desynthesis skill. There are eight different skills, one for each class. These skills work differently than standard FFXIV skills: you can upgrade them by earning and spending points. However, one character won't get enough points to max out all eight skills, so you'll have to choose which to specialize in.
You'll be able to desynthesize almost every item in the game -- even fish! The only limitation mentioned in the Live Letter is that you won't be allowed to desynthesize the highest item level items that were added in the most recent patch.
That having been said, the success of your desynth attempt depends on your desynthesis skill and the item level of the item you're attempting to desynthesize. So if your skill is low, and you try to desynth a high-level item, you'll likely have a 0% chance of succeeding.
When you desynth an item, you'll get materials the item is made of. The type and amount of items you get will depend on the item level of the desynthed item and your desynthesis skill. Obtaining these items, you can do something and get rare items.
"Hunts"
This will consist of players earning a currency called "allied marks" by defeating specified monsters in the open world called "marks."
There will be multiple difficulty ranks of marks. The higher the rank of the mark, the more allied marks you earn when you defeat it. These difficulties will range from barely soloable by an i90 player to needing a chocobo companion to things that will require a group of people to beat.
While many of the marks will be available at any time, each Grand company will designate one monster per week as an additional mark that its members can defeat to obtain bonus allied marks. Similarly, each player will be assigned a bonus mark every day (these will differ from player to player, so that not everyone is hunting the same thing).
Allied marks are used to purchase items such as gear that is currently obtained by trading in Mythology tomestones, items that are unique to this content, and Alexandrite.
Miscellany:
The Rank 7 (450-day) Veteran Rewards have been announced:
Dyeable glasses frames and lenses are coming soon:
They showed off a two-person chocobo:
New emotes are planned as rewards from future seasonal events.
YoshiP will look into adding the ability to display enemies' remaining HP as a percentage.
There are no plans for an ingame DPS parser, but they do plan to add "training" content where you have to do a certain amount of DPS within two minutes to clear it.
YoshiP mentioned that he'd like to add a refer-your-friends program.
Finally, they showed a tonne of concept art, including this tank armour:
Also wedding outfits:
Some chocobo barding:
And a bunch of concepts for the new Crystal Tower:
That's it for this Live Letter; they've got a special English-language one set for 10 June from E3, and then Part XV (covering the rest of Patch 2.3) will be broadcast on 12 June.
I'll have a full recap of the news of the past two weeks in the next few days, but this post from Camate couldn't wait: "Greetings, Since the introduction of the Echo bonus to the Binding Coil of Bahamut, the development team has been looking at the number of times players have been challenging it as well as the number of parties that are clearing the content each day. We originally announced that every two weeks we would be increasing the Echo bonus; however, looking at the current rate of clears and the balance of the rewards being obtained, we’ve decided to halt increasing the bonus further. The team will continue to look at the conditions day to day as we move forward and consider increasing the bonus further if it is deemed necessary."
Greetings Riders!
We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new member, Aadarshini. If there’s anything you need, please ask.
Congratulations to Czar who has earned a promotion to the rank of ‘Warden’.
While our company currently has no specific stipulations for earning promotion, we felt that Czar’s activity, cooperative attitude & social interaction with other free company members made him stand apart from other members of ‘Tenderfoot’ rank.

Hi, everybody! First off, let me apologize for the lack of dev post roundups recently -- between playing FFXIV and RL stuff, I haven't gotten a chance to write a post. I'll try not to let it happen again. :) Now, onto the news:
This past weekend, YoshiP and company were at a NicoNico event in Tokyo, and as part of it, they hosted a livestream in which they talked about patches 2.28 and 2.3. Here's a summary:
Patch 2.28 will be released in May.
Additional housing areas will be added in 2.3, in preparation for personal housing.
Many players have requested that the limit on the number of furnishings able to be placed in a house be increased; unfortunately, because of the additional stress that would place on the servers, that can't happen yet.
In 2.3, you'll be able to have a room of your own in your FC house; it'll be slightly larger than an inn room, and you'll be able to choose whether to allow others to visit your room. No decision has yet been made as to whether to allow you to go to your room directly from the front door of the house.
Personal houses will be released shortly after personal FC house rooms are ready. They may end up being delayed until 2.35. In order to buy a house of your own, you'll have to be level 50 and hold a certain rank with your Grand Company.
A new PvP mode, Frontlines, will be added in 2.3; this will allow large-scale, three-team battles involving 24 or more players. It won't necessarily be 8 vs. 8 vs. 8.
Other PvP balance changes are coming in 2.28 and 2.3, including unlocking all PvP skills from the start (rather than requiring you to earn PvP XP to unlock them), and allowing you to respec your PvP skills for free. No word on what's going to happen to the existing respec items.
The drop rate of Allagan Tomestones of Mythology will increase in 2.28 and/or 2.3.
The next chapter of the Crystal Tower will release with 2.3. It will feature a number of things that should make long-time Final Fantasy fans happy.
The chocobo system will be expanded in 2.3 or 2.35; they mentioned crafted chocobo food, the possibility of adding stables where you can train your chocobo, and possibly allowing you to dye your chocobo.
They're in the process of testing two-person mounts.
They plan to introduce new content that can be done with fewer than four people.
Each job will get a unique Limit Break animation. This change is still in the planning stages, and no implementation timing has been determined.
They're finalizing design of the marriage system; it won't be released until sometime after 2.3.
They're still working on the DirectX 11 version of the game. They hope to release it before the end of the year.
Finally, they have big plans for beast tribe quests involving the goblins. Those are still pretty far off.
Onto posts from the Community Team on the official forums:
An improved gear comparison tool will be coming in 2.3.
Also in 2.3, you'll be able to see the current progress of FATEs on the map.
They're planning to add training dummies as an outdoor furnishing item for your house; no date yet.
A furnishing-specific category will be added to the Nameplate Settings tab of the Character Configuration window sometime after 2.3. This will allow you to, among other things, hide the nameplates of interactive furniture, such as the Company Chest.
They're looking at adding additional designs for the pages of grimoires, so scholars, summuners, and arcanists don't have to stare at the same page of every book.
They have plans to expand the storage space of company chests; additional tabs will be unlocked as rewards for upcoming ranks.
The dev team is aware that /r is broken, and is working on changing its functionality.
Finally, there are no plans to allow summoners to summon carbuncles rather than egis. (Apparently some players would like the ability to "glamour" their egis to look like carbuncles.)
That's it for the news this week; I'll have another installment on 6 May.
This update included lots of new PVP gear, materia transmutation & a more potent echo buff in turns of ‘The Binding Coil of Bahamut’.
Also noteworthy: Darklight gear can now be dyed and Atma icons have been changed.
For more information, please follow the link.
Greetings Riders!
Congratulations to Moon & X'shanti who recently upgraded their relic weapons to relic zenith.
Also, I’m pleased to announce that our free company has recently achieved rank 8, which is the highest possible rank at the present time. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
Greetings Riders!
First, I’d like to begin by addressing update frequency. I’d like to try posting updates once or twice monthly to catalog our progress over the course of that time. As long as we keep making progress, we’ll keep getting updates.
Thornmarch is now listed in the Duty Finder as Thornmarch (Hard). I’ve modified past updates to reflect this.
Two new Roulettes have been added: Expert (Halatali [Hard], Brayflox [Hard], and the Lost City of Amdapor) and Trials (relic battles, Hard Mode primals and King Moggle Mog, Battle on the Big Bridge, and Cape Westwind).
Cape Westwind has been removed from Low-Level Roulette.
You can’t do High-Level, Expert, or Trials Roulette unless you’ve beaten all the constituent instances.
The gil portion of the role bonus for Duty Roulettes has been increased, in some cases sixfold.
Fishing:
Level 1-15 fishing holes now contain big fish, which require a high Gathering stat to catch.
A new level 1 ability has been added for fishers: Cast Light. This causes the tip of your fishing rod to light up.
You can now /sit after you cast your line.
New emotes have been added:
Four new dances: /stepdance (/sdance), /harvestdance (/hdance), /balldance (/bdance), and /mandervilledance (/mdance). These dances are unlocked via sidequests.
While you are standing, /changepose will cycle between your character's default idle stance and two other stances; while sitting, it will cycle between your character's default sitting posture and a new, more relaxed one.
Housing:
Contrary to the preliminary patch notes, two new aetherytes have been added to each housing area, not one.
Certain housing items are now classified as tables, allowing tabletop furnishings to be placed atop them.
Small houses can hold 4 crafting workstations; medium houses, 6; and large houses, 8.
Similarly, small houses can have two NPC merchants; mediums, three; and larges, four.
Crafting:
A bunch of new recipes have been added, including three-star crafts.
Ingenuity and Ingenuity II have been adjusted in preparation for crafting balance changes coming in Patch 2.3.
The class required to repair certain gear has been changed.
The Alchemists' Guild now sells potter's clay.
Changes regarding items:
20 new dyes have been added.
High-level food has been buffed.
The spiritbonding rate has been increased for high-level gear.
Vendors now buy materia and darksteel ingots at a higher price.
Items from the seasonal events since 2.1 released can now be placed in the armoire. (Christmas, Dragon Quest X, Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day)
Unique quest rewards, achievement rewards, relics, and the Sleipnir barding can now be discarded.
On that note, quest and achievement items you can only get once (such as relics, artifact armour, and such) are now sold by the Calamity Salvager in each major city. You may only purchase items for which you've completed the associated quest or achievement.
The Calamity Salvagers also sell the items from previous seasonal events, which you can buy even if you didn't complete the event.
The icon for timeworn maps has changed.
The names of the mythology accessories and belts (e.g., Hero's Belt of Fending) have been changed, and they are now blue items rather than green.
Quests to upgrade your relic zenith to a zodiac weapon (relic atma/relic animus) are now available from Gerolt in the North Shroud.
A whole lot of new items and furniture have been added; check the patch notes for a full list.
Achievements:
A lot of new achievements have been added; check the patch notes for a full list.
A notable new achievement: completing Extreme Mode trials and/or Turns of either Coil of Bahamut (except Turn 3) 200 times as a WAR or PLD gets you a mount: a white lion for PLD and a bear for WAR.
One-time password users can now designate one (non-estate) aetheryte as a free teleport destination.
User Interface changes:
A "Sort Party List" button has been added to the Party Members window. Pressing it when in a party of more than two players will automatically arrange your party list in the following order: you, tanks, healers, DPS.
New macro icons are now available in the macro creation window.
The minimum size of the chat log window has been reduced.
You can now rename chat tabs (right-click/press the Square button, then select "Rename").
An option to adjust the transparency of the chat window has been added to the "General" tab of the chat settings.
You can now link items in chat! To do so, drag the item's icon to the chat text entry field.
Options to adjust the sizes of tooltips, the map font, and flyover text have been added to the "General" tab of the UI settings.
Ready Check has been added to the keybind settings.
Several new slash commands have been added, including ready checks, level syncing, and scaling your entire UI. See the patch notes for the full list.
A bunch of new autotranslate phrases have been added; see the patch notes for the full list.
This was originally going to be a summary of today’s Live Letter from the Producer, but SE pleasantly surprised us by posting preliminary patch notes. My summary of the highlights begins after the jump.
Beast Tribe Quests:
Kobold and Sahagin tribes added.
Beastman dailies now give ventures (more on those below) instead of shards.
Beast tribe FATEs’ difficulty will now be reduced if fewer people are participating.
Beast tribe FATE reward items are no longer unique, so you can stockpile them.
Levequests:
Certain battle leves have been made more difficult.
Cerain battle and field leves have new rewards.
The bonus for first-time completion of a guildhest is now available once on each class, rather than once per character. (Note that SMN and SCH are the same class, despite being two different jobs.)
New items have been added as possible rewards from boarskin and peisteskin maps.
Tomestones:
Allagan Tomestones of Soldiery have been added; there is a weekly cap of 450, and you can carry up to 2000.
The weekly cap on Tomestones of Mythology has been removed.
Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy are no longer obtainable. However, you will not lose your existing Philosophy tomestones; you can exchange them for Mythology tomestones by talking to Auriana in Revenant’s Toll.
All instances that previously awarded Philosophy will now give either Mythology or Soldiery.
Darklight gear will now drop from dungeons.
Philosophy crafting materials are now sold by Grand Company Quartermasters.
Philosophy minions will still be obtainable, but no word yet as to how.
The weekly reset time has been changed to Tuesday at 4am EDT. Daily resets will presumably still happen at 11am EDT.
Changes to existing dungeons:
Crystal Tower no longer has a weekly loot lockout, and a gil reward has been added for completion.
Amdapor Keep: Megalith Marionette’s AoE potency has been reduced, the adds on Demon Wall have been removed, and the potency of the final boss’s Imminent Catastrophe and Bubonic Cloud have been reduced.
Haukke Manor (Hard): New item drops from mobs have been added, and mobs drop more gil.
Copperbell Mines (Hard): Enemies now drop more gil.
Pharos Sirius: Overall difficulty reduced to match Copperbell HM and Haukke Manor HM. Enemies now drop more gil.
Changes to existing trials:
New mounts have been added as drops from Extreme primals:
The Echo buff has been added. If your party wipes after fighting for at least 3 minutes, you will receive 1 stack of the Echo buff, which increases your HP, damage dealt, and curing potency by a certain percentage. This buff stacks up to 5 times. For Hard Mode primals, Thornmarch, and the relic battles, each stack gives a 10% bonus. For Extreme Mode primals and Ultima HM, each stack gives a 5% bonus.
The relic battles now require an average item level of 52.
Changes to the Binding Coil of Bahamut:
Weekly lockouts have been removed.
The attack “High Voltage” now has a lower chance to cause paralysis, and such paralysis can be removed with Esuna.
You can enter any Turn at any time, rather than needing to do them in order each week.
You can now queue for a Turn via the Duty Finder, but you must do so as a premade 8-player group.
Average item level requirements have been added for each Turn: Turns 1 and 3 require level 70, Turn 2 requires 73, Turn 4 requires 77, and Turn 5 requires 82.
Two weeks after patch 2.2 releases, you will receive the Echo buff upon entering any turn of Binding Coil; this will increase your HP, damage dealt, and curing potency by 10%. At that time, you will also be able to queue for any Turn without needing a premade party. Two weeks after that, the buff will go up to 20%, and two weeks after that, it will go up to 30%. (This schedule is subject to change.)
Unlocking the new dungeons:
Lost City of Amdapor: talk to E-sumi-Yan in Old Gridania.
Halatali (Hard): talk to Hugubert in Mor Dhona.
Brayflox’s Longstop (Hard): talk to Bloezoeng in Mor Dhona.
Grand Companies:
New items are available for purchase from your GC, including cordials, durability draughts, spiritbond potions, and housing items.
Certain housing items can now be bought as a Chief Sergeant, rather than as a Second Lieutenant.
Base XP for provisioning, supply, and expert delivery missions has been increased, and the bonus for delivering an HQ item has been removed.
High-demand items in supply and provisioning missions (the ones marked with a star) will now give +100% XP and seals, rather than +50%. They’ll also show up more frequently.
Fewer fish are required for fishing provisioning missions.
Free Companies:
If the leader of a FC is inactive for 35 days, he or she will automatically be demoted, and another member will be promoted to leader.
The rate at which Free Company credits are earned has been increased. Grand company provisioning, supply, and expert delivery missions now give company credits.
FATEs:
Behemoth’s HP will now be increased based on the number of participants in the FATE.
It is now easier to get a gold ranking in the Odin and Behemoth FATEs.
Housing:
The Gardening system has been added (see the Gardening section for details.)
Small houses now have a basement, and they can hold 100 furnishings rather than 50.
A new type of indoor furnishing has been added: crafting facilities. A crafter level 40 or below can use the facility to get a CP bonus for a fixed time.
You can now place a summoning bell inside your house. (Unfortunately, you can’t summon the aesthetician from it.)
You can now buy permits that allow you to have vendors on your property. Currently available are a junkmonger, a material supplier, and a mender.
You can now travel directly for free from an NPC in each housing area to the nearest city. (This requires completion of the “Where the Heart Is” quest for that housing area.)
There is a new aethernet shard near the entrance of each housing area.
Cooldowns no longer reset when changing classes in housing areas,
Gardening:
There are three types of garden patch available: round, which holds 4 plants; oblong, which holds 6; and deluxe, which holds 8.
Small houses can have one garden patch, mediums two, and larges three.
In order to plant something in your garden, you need a seed and soil. Seeds are gathered by botanists; they will occasionally appear in nodes where the corresponding plant can be gathered. (For example, La Noscean orange seeds can be gathered from the same nodes that hold La Noscean oranges.) Soil is gathered by miners; the type of soil depends on where it’s gathered from.
Soil type affects the yield quality and quantity of the crop, as well as crossbreeding likelihood.
Plant growth is promoted by fertilization (which can be done once per real-time hour), as well as watering. Unwatered plants will eventually wither. How well tended the plant is affects the chance of getting HQ produce.
If different species are planted side-by-side, they can crossbreed, yielding a new type of seed. Hybrid seeds can be further crossbred.
Challenge Log:
The challenge log is sort of a repeatable achievement system: a list of objectives that you can complete weekly in a number of categories.
Completing any objective will earn you rewards; overall completion of the challenge log will get you bonus rewards (similar to how the hunting logs work).
To unlock the challenge log, do the level 15 quest “Rising to the Challenge,” available from I’tolwann in the Upper Decks of Limsa Lominsa.
New hairstyles are available at the aesthetician:
Chocobos:
You can now ride your chocobo even when he or she is summoned to fight with you; a Mount command has been added to the right-click/Square button menu.
Summoned chocobos will now stick around for 30 minutes, regardless of their rank.
Glamours:
Casting a glamour on an item causes it to take on the appearance of a different item.
To unlock glamours, complete the level 50 quest “A Self-Improving Man,” available from Wiscard in Mor Dhona.
To cast a glamour, you need the following: the gear whose appearance you want to change (the base item), the gear whose appearance you want to project onto the base item (the projected item), and a Glamour Prism of the appropriate grade and type (depending on the level and repair class of the projected item).
Casting a glamour will consume the prism, but neither of the two pieces of gear will be lost. However, both pieces of gear will be bound to you in the process.
In order to cast a glamour, the base and projected items must be of the same type (e.g., hands), equippable by the same class or job, and equippable by the same race or gender. The projected item’s level must also be less than or equal to that of the base item.
If the base item occupies more than one slot, the projected item must occupy any subset of those slots. If the projected item occupies more than one slot, the base item must occupy all of those slots. For example, you can project the appearance of a chest-only robe onto a head-and-chest cowl (and if you do, it will look like you’re not wearing a headpiece), but you can’t project the appearance of a cowl onto a robe.
Glamour prisms are crafted by level 50 crafters. Glamour dispellers are bought from a vendor. (NB: You don’t have to remove an existing glamour to put a new one onto an item.)
Retainer Ventures:
You can now assign your retainers ventures, sending them out into the field to obtain items.
To unlock the venture system, complete the level 17 quest “An Ill-conceived Venture,” available from the troubled adventurer in any major city.
You can train each of your retainers in a Discipline of War, Discipline of Magic, or Discipline of the Hand that you have unlocked, then give him or her a main-hand weapon or tool.
You can equip your retainers with gear, which will affect the items they come back with: The quantity of items procured by Disciples of War and Magic is affected by their average item level, the quantity of items procured by Disciples of the Land is affected by their Gathering stat, and the quality of items procured by Disciples of the Land is affected by their Perception stat.
All Disciplines of War and Magic share the same list of ventures, so you’ll be able to get the same items no matter which exact class your retainer is.
In order to send your retainer out, you have to spend a new currency (called, confusingly enough, “ventures”), obtained from levequests, from beast tribe daily quests, and by purchasing them from your Grand Company.
Retainers will gain experience from going on ventures, and will increase in level. His or her level affects which ventures you’ll have access to, the rewards you’ll get from certain ventures, and the time it takes to complete a venture. In the Live Letter, YoshiP mentioned that your retainer’s level in a given class is capped to your level in that class, but the patch notes don’t mention it, so this may not be true.
If you wish to change your retainer’s class, you can do so at any time, but they will be reset to level 1 (even in their previous class).
Greetings, Riders.
I am proud to bring you our first free company update! As I had mentioned previously, these updates will be made periodically to keep you up-to-date on our company in many ways.
