There have been a number of theories going on around what may happen in future chapters of Deltarune, but I haven’t really seen any that cover all of them, and I’d like to give my take here.
The first pieces of evidence I’ll be using are from Chapter 4, specially the Flower Man prophecy panel and Gerson quotes during his boss fight. The panel is pretty clearly depicting Asgore, with him in an outfit reminiscent of his Undertale one, with its cape and large shoulder pauldrons. Gerson brings up Chapter 5, saying it’s a ‘field of flowers’ and has an ‘inferno of jealousy’. Combining these hints makes it pretty clear that Chapter 5 is likely going to take place in Asgore’s Flower shop, with the man himself as a key figure in the Dark World there, with his broken relationship with Toriel being his main flaw, akin to Tenna’s desperation for being watched and Queen’s overcontrolling nature. And, there’s another hint that makes this even more certain: the bunker code.
The Bunker has three symbols on it: a Tree, a Police Badge, and the Delta Rune. Kris and Susie went to the Holiday’s house, and as per their suspicion, found one piece of the code there. Kris may have tried to stop Susie and the Soul from learning the code, but Susie found out anyway. The Delta Rune was also something they went after, going to the church and asking Father Alvin about it, but he says that it’s not something they should be messing around with. And, while I don’t believe there’s anything else in the chapter that indicates either character found the piece of the code in the Church or Sanctuaries, I do feel like they could get it from talking to Alvin again, especially after Susie delivered him that note from Gerson.
So, with two pieces of the code, the only remaining part is from the Police. My first thought is that it may be in the station itself, but with Undyne out of commission and Napstablook being timid and likely a rookie without a lot of info about the place, he likely wouldn’t know the code. However, Asgore was the previous Police Chief, so he likely would—and wouldn’t you know it, that’s where the rest of the evidence pointed to! Chapter 5: Asgore’s flower garden and broken marriage, and he’ll give us the code afterward.
But, then what? We’d have the full code after Chapter 5, so why not go right to the bunker? Well, barring some out of the left field nonsense, I think Kris and Susie would go there. Chapter 6: The Bunker, all secrets revealed. But what would come after that? Well, I had a revelation about something subtle in the lore, and that’s the main thing I want to bring up here.
You see, every single Dark World has been indoors. In the School closet, Librarby, then Dreemurr’s house, then the Church, and if my suspicions hold, the Church and Bunker. All buildings. So, what would happen if one were opened outside?
Well, first let me take a tangent about story structure. Most stories are told in 3 acts: the intro, the middle, and the climax. And, based on what I can see, Deltarune is no exception. Chapters 1, 2, and 3 are part of Act 1, but that shifts to Act two near the end of Chapter 3, when Tenna’s backstory is dug into, and then he gets cleaved open. A solid twist and face reveal for the primary antagonist: The Roaring Knight.
Chapter 4 is in Act 2, and has higher stakes than ever before, with tension throughout the whole thing, and many major revelations are made. I suspect Chapter 5 will be much the same, even higher stakes and more mysteries revealed, particularly in regards to the Dreemurrs and Holidays. And then, we get to Chapter 6.
Chapter 6, as per my theory thus far, will be the start of Act 3, pushing into enemy territory and towards the finale. The highest stakes will soon come into play, and conclusions will be had, happy or otherwise.
But… what are these stakes? In 1 and 2, it was just the safety of friends, and 3, it got more personal. In 4, there was the Titan, who was only defeated with the help of OP Gerson. I don’t know what it’ll be for 5 and 6, but 5 will likely expand on the personal aspects of it, with Kris’s family being at the center of that Chapter, but 6 will definitely bring in more reality-breaking stakes. And as for the highest of stakes in Chapter 7? Well, we already know that, don’t we…
The Roaring will supposedly destroy the world and overtake it with darkness. It’s a little vague as to what that means, but it may mean to overtake the whole world into the Dark World, every Lightner getting thrown into it.
And this is where the outdoors thing comes back. A dark fountain will fill an entire room in the Light world, so it opened outside, maybe it could engulf the whole world? That would line up with the Roaring, now wouldn’t it? Now, it would certainly take a lot more darkness and couldn’t be done just on a whim, so there’s something special that’d need to be done to open one outdoors.
But why? Why is this happening, why is the Knight, Kris, and possibly Carol doing this? Well, I have an idea.
In Chapter 4, we meet Gerson, and it’s revealed in the middle of the Chapter that he was a Lightner, and is now dead, with his ash being what his Darkner form is in the light world. So, would it be a stretch to assume that other dead people could become Darkners as well? And if the whole world got thrown into darkness, then anyone dead would effectively be alive again. Any sickness could be healed by a spell, which is something Noelle mentioned she’d like back in Chapter 2, about Rudy. So, if Kris and Carol are really working with the Knight, who’s mainly theorized to be Dess, it would make a lot of sense that they want to cause the Roaring, to sink the entire world into darkness, just to get Dess back.
Assuming the Knight is Dess, her reasoning for bringing about the Roaring is less clear. She still is conscious in some fashion, going by how she knights Kris if you beat her in her boss fight, so she isn’t just acting like a wild beast or anything. Maybe she wants to be with her family again as well, or maybe she wants to take revenge on someone.
