it’s   a   perfect   cliche   for   the   golden   haired   doctor.   stress-induced   baking,   to   help   her   sort   out   her   mind,   and   figure   out   her   feelings.   it’s   the   perfect   scenario   :   she   quietly   works   through   things,   and   her   friends   benefit   from   tasteful   delicacies   !   only   this   time   ---   there’s   a   lot   on   her   mind,   and   a   dozen   cupcakes    quickly   turns   into   four.   it’s   certainly   too   much   for   herself   and   her   roommates   to   finish,   and   while   she’d   usually   take   the   extras   to   work,   she   can’t   exactly   be   at   seattle   grace   right   now   ;   not   when   the   hospital   is   a   home   and   reminder   of   everything   she’s   dealing   with.

with   this   in   mind,   she   ventures   to   joe’s,   basket   of   cupcakes   on   her   arm.   the   scene   is   unusually  quiet,   but   this   doesn’t   stop   izzie   from   taking   a   seat   anyway,   placing   her   basket   on   the   counter.   she’ll   greet   joe,   ordering   a   quick   drink   before   auburn   eyes   scan   over   the   bar.   it   isn’t   exactly   lively,   and   her   attention   is   drawn   to   the   brunette   seated   close   by.   turning   her   head,   blonde   curls   will   cascade   over   her   shoulder,   flashing   an   encouraging   smile.   “   you   should   have   a   cupcake.   they’re   really   good,   i   promise.   ”

nevermind   that   she’s   never   seen   chicago   ;   this   was   the   light   that   guided   her   through   med-school,   through   her   internship,   through   residency.   the   notion   she’d   make   a   difference.   it   didn’t   matter   if   it   was   big   or   small.   she   loved   these   cases   for   their   aha  moments   ---   for   the   prospect   to   take   someone’s   last   chance   and   make   it   work.   to   make   the   inoperable,   operable.   “   what was he like   ?   ”
