I spent a long time tonight, talking to someone about how it is to look back on 6 years (!!) of Epithets. Things are so radically different than I ever would've expected - with the band, with the basic facets of day to day life that have always inspired the songs, and even with what the body of work it means to me overall. I've toyed for a while with the idea of using this tumblr as a way of sorting through thoughts about the band so far, and for sharing insights/memories from along the way. I've finally reconciled myself to actually doing it, so I hope you'll stick with me. Send questions and jokes or whatever. Always wanted to know who a song was about, or what tuning i'm using? I'd love to talk about it. Hell, what else am I meant to do til Fallout 4 comes out? All my best, Nick/Epithets

Epithets “Disaster Tourism” (from “The Wellspring”, 2013)

There is a constancy. I do procrastinate about listening to new records by bands I tend to enjoy. I may feel the urge to get them under my hands, physically, more often digitally, but I tend to let dust fall on them until finally I break the cellophane. I really don’t know what I fear exactly, maybe not to meet the expected joy, or just the fugacity of evanescent feelings and impressions, fleeting emotions, the transiency of happiness. Or simply, listening to music is my last privacy, where I meet my integrity, so i save those as oxygen. Epithets will be touring with Sleep Decade and there is no better song to play with their “Mexico” than this “Disaster Tourism”, which ends “The Wellspring”. I love this one so much. Thank you.

Happy album release day.

The first "single" from our new album, "The Wellspring", has been featured on Lofly Records' new label compilation. The song is called "The Repose". This is the first time that any of our new material has been made available anywhere, and precedes the album's release on October 16th. We're exceptionally proud of it - please tell us what you think, and feel free to share it around too.

Our new album, “The Wellspring”, will be released digitally on October 16th - the 4th anniversary of our first show as a band. It will also be released on LP in conjunction with Lofly. It was recorded and mixed by Casey Rice (Tortoise, The Dirty Three, Joan Of Arc, Grand Salvo etc) and mastered by Roger Seibel (Death Cab For Cutie, Sleater Kinney, Modest Mouse).
