He was talking from his own personal experience. He said “I had a girlfriend before I ever had a boyfriend, but it was just a phase. I think a lot of people who say they are bisexual aren’t. I loved her dearly and we had a very nice time, but on the Kinsey scale, I would say I was always predominantly gay.” Meaning for a while he thought he was bisexual, but he wasn’t. This comes after a point in the article where he discusses how he was terrified to come out to his father because he thought it would break his dad’s heart. He denied to himself that he was actually gay because he thought it would upset his family, and part of him hoped he would end up with a girl and not have to do that. But he realized he really was just gay and he had to be true to himself and admit what he was to himself and to his family. 

He’s saying he assumes other people have experienced similar situations. He’s basically saying you need to be who you are and not be afraid of it. 

Seriously this site is worse at taking things out of context than the fucking tabloids.
