i don't remember what originally inspired me to start on this gramophone girl, but recently i found her in my wip folder and decided to finish the project. also finally got a chance to test this shiny copper filament and i love how it looks.

i've been chipping away at this robot bunny sculpt for a long time, and she is DONE. because of the complex claws & head i had to print her around 55cm tall, and i'm so glad i did. being big makes her so compelling.

[here's a post showcasing the head prototype, because i didn't really play with the modularity of it in these photos. i edited the sculpt a bit for the finished version, but it's essentially the same still.]

Today I permanently installed the extra cellar space under my castle tower dollhouse. At the same time enjoying the birdseye view inside The Great Hall.

I'll have to cover the two screws with some paperclay, they hold the cellar in its place, together with glue. All of the cellar sides are covered with strips of black felt, to prevent light getting in places where I don't want it to be seen.

Cellar space, including lights: LED strips, partially blackened with paper + black acrylic paint.

Next photo: just dollhouse lights; yet installed in cellar, armoury and Great Hall.

So excited! Love the stone steps leading to the cellar ❤️ Love the subtle light coming through the faux iron gate.

In real life the cellar visibility is better than what I could capture on photo.

It was my intention that this cellar wouldn't take much attention. Inside and out.

Armoury lightened with the LED strip: blacksmith "fire", indirect light from the back wall ceiling, plus the light coming up the stone steps from the cellar.

I've accomplished a hard and difficult part in the building process and I love how my castle tower is coming together.

1/12 scale FernField Castle.

Next to do: making the fireplace lights more realistic by colouring that part of the LED strip in browns, reds and oranges using alcohol markers.

after i made my wooden doll, i was musing about what other unusual materials i might use for a bjd. my partner suggested paper, and also gave me access to their craft paper collection -> i made this.

she is almost entirely made of paper & cardboard. the joints are wooden beads & worbla, because i did figure out a way to make ball joints out of paper, but it really was not worth the effort. all her limbs have tubes of rolled-up cardboard in them to keep the structure sturdy, and the origami flowers are glued around those.

this is extremely different from any doll i've made before, and i had so much fun working with pretty papers & figuring out how to turn them into a poseable 3d object.

Managed to snag Shai today 💖

Yesterday my local target was sold out of ALL the girls besides 3 lone Luna’s. I asked an employee about it with the scan code and they confirmed that they were all out. 😢 The semi-local target also didn’t have her - I don’t think they had reset their toy aisle yet…

We had to drive out further for other business and there was a further target out so I figured it was worth a stop, and… they hadn’t reset their aisle yet, either. However, I saw a worker gathering stuff for clearance, and I asked her to scan the code I got from my local Target (I guess Shai was almost named Summer Meadows?) and she told me they still had two in the back and they were within walking distance to easily pick up, and she got one for me! 🥺💖 I don’t know if that means they were only getting two in their shipment or if other people managed to get a Shai before me. Last picture shows her scan code. If you want a Shai too, you might be able to nicely ask an employee if they have it in the back.

I haven’t tried scouting for Suki yet but I have like two local Walmarts and like 3 others that are nearby, so I’m a little less worried about trying to find her. I hope everyone will be able to get Shai & Suki in-person or online easily in the coming weeks. #mirrormi #dollcollectors #shaimeadows
