The one word that I can describe my space as would be “old”. While it really isn’t any older than the rest of Chico, it certainly looks the part. The way that the way I describe my space relates to our course is that basically everything that we uncover, discover, and interact with in our course...
I totally agree with your keyword to describe your space "old". I actually live across the street from the alley. I think that this space looks really beaten and warned down. The trash and old sofas laying around really send the message that it has been though a lot.
On my first response to this I had stated that this picture can symbolize a college students life before through out and after college. Which I still very much see to be the case , the objects that make up the space represent an attribute or obstacle students go through. The enterance and exits represent the beginnings and the endings of a journey.
I like how many people have differing perspective on how they choose to look a space, i feel as if that is a choice of freedom. We as human being have the opportunity to express and think the way we feel.
I like how you mentioned the meaning of maps in your writing because I agree i feel a map is showing how objects relate to each other. For example one good question to ask about a space would be "What is the Purpose of this location?" or "what does it mean?". These are all important things to think about when observing a space.
Your space and others in the class opened my eyes to how different people can look at spaces.
