my unwoke thought. i dont think all genderbent characters should look exactly the same as their original. it takes a certain wisdom to know when their femininity or masculinity is key to their character regardless of gender, or when the behaviors/traits tied to their gender (or the opposite gender) being important to them is actually is what's at play here. though i do think more people should make genderbent characters look exactly the same if it means there's more muscular women. end post
i love characters who do the “i worship the myth i make of you” and in turn dehumanize and get wrong the object of their devotion and love. yes project a thing that does not exist onto a pedestal and kneel at it like it is your altar. this will surely not blow up in both of your faces eventually
sometimes i think about gay people who lived centuries ago who thought they were all alone who imagined a world where they could live openly as themselves who met in secret spoke in code defied everything and everyone just to exist and i’m like..i gotta sit down. whew i gotta sit down
If this little book should see the light after its 100 years of entombment, I would like its readers to know that the author was a lover of her own sex and devoted the best years of her life in striving for the political equality and social and moral elevation of women.

The canon Eras AU is a story about a group of folks who all are nonconformist for their time one way or another (or multiple), so the Lobotomy Eras AU asks the question... what would it be like if we forced these characters to be more conformist? How do they differ from their original selves, let alone how do they differ from the 2010s canon?

Emile Picani - Was institutionalized for his homosexuality and multiple personality disorder, and then was eventually released. Barred from doing any sort of psychiatric work, and has had a lot of the whimsy and energy forced out of him.
Virgil Gallagher - Rejected his boyfriend before either of them became vampires. Fears the religious and social consequences of being homosexual more than he could ever enjoy that butterflies-in-his-stomach exhilaration. Remains an anxious social outcast... but at least he's mortal?
Patton Merritt - Has a wife and 2 kids, never fought in WW2 because as much as martyrdom is considered a virtue, he has a family to take care of first. Has spent decades convincing himself that he's happy and safe and living the American Dream, when really he only shows true joy when he's working with animals at the zoo.
Remy Ramamurthy "Raam" Tripathi - The internalized racism he feels as a first generation immigrant manifests in him leaning heavily into his family and Indian collectivist culture, for better and for worse. Internalized ableism encourages him to push through and manage his non24 on his own. Has a stable job in finance and a wife at 24 years old.
Janus John Wallace - When the American draft for WW1 came around in 1917, he took it as a chance to escape his abusive household. A shame that the war ended literally next year. Returns to Richmond & never goes to Chicago, tries to start a life of his own despite the shellshock and multiple physical disabilities. (Ironically, he's a lot like c!Eras Patton...)
Roman Mary Elizabeth Stratford - Dolled up damsel of the Victorian era, somehow even more of a prick who feels like she has to defend her & her family's dignity. Refuses to engage with any of her dysphoria, not even by giving it a fictitious name.
Remus Mary Lisburn - Someone who wants to run away and be a transgressive nonconformist runaway hippie, but can't work the up reckless courage to do so on her own. The time travel pushes him into that freedom. (Ironically, she's a lot like c!Eras Roman...)
Logan Mrs. Liora Ramon - Tries to be a model minority immigrant citizen, tries to not take up too much space in a myriad of ways. Still has a job in teaching, but not as a professor at Barnard like her canon self. Has a husband. Feels as though the feminist and queer movements of her time and place are not for her. They're for the Americans.
ever since i was young i've been drawn to narratives where a character acquires powers by being premeditatively attacked, subdued, and forcibly empowered by some kind of invasive procedure, leaving them feeling guiltily ashamed, alienated from their own body, and violently uncomfortable under any amount of attention drawn to them despite their new enhanced ability to defend themself and others. for no particular reason.
