what’s getting me about all of this is that people are arguing that f1 is a team sport so of course it’s okay for mclaren to ask oscar to help lando. there’s an individual championship at risk!!! oscar carrying lando’s ass over the finish line directly hurts his championship!!! it’s such a simple thing and yet no one seems to be understanding it.

this exactly! if they were fighting for the constructor's i might be able to understand the team argument, but they're not. they've already as good as won it. expecting your championship leader to save his rival because he can't get a proper lap together is ridiculous. mclaren might as well be telling oscar that they don't care about his championship and that they'd prefer it if lando wins. i'll bet anything they'd never ask lando to help oscar if the roles were reversed either.

and if they'd only asked for the tow to get him out of q2 i wouldn't be as annoyed, but the fact that they wanted oscar to do it twice? asking oscar to hurt his championship because lando is too slow to do it on his own isn't playing the team game, it's playing the lando norris game.
