REBLOG FOR GOOD JOB GETTING KARMA COME ON GRAB A PIECE
*caveat: the other person must also care about you and also be willing to work shit out. Don’t run yourself into the ground because you feel obligated to keep trying. To keep changing things.
If you really love someone, try your best to work things out. If that someone really loves you, they’ll try to work things out too. If the things in question don’t work out, if there’s an insurmountable obstacle, if the relationship has become toxic, if neither of you are getting what you need, it’s okay to leave.
Obviously, if the obstacle in question is something like the toilet seat or which room to remodel or how to spend Sundays together, put in work and communicate. But if the insurmountable obstacle is one partner’s abject failure to put in the work needed, leave.
Leaving is heartbreaking. It feels a lot like giving up, like failure, especially when marriage vows are involved. But sometimes, it’s rescuing one’s own self from an unhealthy situation.
Don’t run yourself into the ground because you feel obligated to keep trying.
Fucking THIS.
Also don’t make yourself smaller to keep the relationship afloat. Be you. Stand up for your needs. If the other person won’t reciprocate the effort you put in, won’t respect you, punishes you, or just sucks in general, leave. Fuck trying too many times. After a while they’ll learn they can abuse you and take advantage and you’ll forgive and continue to let it happen. Do yourself and your self esteem a favor and leave. Don’t look back.
