New Arrivals – Erin Considine

We’ve been working with Brooklyn-based fiber artist, metalsmith, and natural dyer Erin Considine for a little while now, and are always eager to receive new pieces. Considine creates clean, traceable, high craft jewelry, anchored in sustainability and simple sculptural forms. This season, she has woven more texture and fiber into sterling silver pieces, including the Bola Studs with a beautiful hand-hammered finish, and the striking Ridge Choker, Tela Cuff, and Medio Tassel Earrings, crafted from solid silver and braided natural flax. “The collection was realized in part while I was in Oaxaca with Poco A Poco, participating in their month-long residency in the center of Oaxaca city,” says Considine. “The place is a wellspring of inspiration — the people, the artisanal traditions of basketry, weaving, natural dyeing, silver and gold work, the artifacts of Monte Alban and Mitla, as well as the beautiful textures of the city. There’s an evidence of nature, time, and the hand at every turn, which speaks to my own process and aesthetic. When I was back in my studio in Brooklyn, I had these experiences very much in mind when I was designing and fabricating the collection. Working with hammers, flame and the softer elements like Belgian flax and silk.” Created in limited numbers, we like to think of Considine’s pieces as organic heirlooms.
