Avatar God AU (Southern Gods)
I know I've literally got another au in the works already but i don't care man I love mythology and now they're gods >:)))))
Some info!
Katara and Sokka's face markings are based on the Painted Lady and Warrior makeup (respectively)-- on top of giving Sokka some winged eyeliner to resemble a wolf's markings (as the master of wolves), and a semi-circle on Katara's forehead as a symbol of equality (as the goddess of justice).
Gods don't technically "die" in this AU-- it doesn't happen often, but when it does, they usually become one with their domain. When Gyatso died, as the god of the wind, he turned into the wind and could only communicate through wind chimes (small signs/yes/no-- he can't communicate complex thoughts).
When Kya died, she turned into the starry sky. Hakoda, grieving his wife, would often study her form in the sky and learned to use the patterns of her stars to navigate, which made him become god of navigators.
When Kya died, people started praying to Sokka and Katara for matters of family and home-- it's not actually their domain, but they gratefully accept the duties that come with taking over for their mother.
Katara's necklace has sharp points in this to relate to her mother's star domain.
Katara's cloak is a sealskin (as the matron of sealife)
Yes, Sokka's leg is still hurt in this (still trying to figure out the story behind that, but I love when characters get permanent injuries in media and I'm KEEPING IT) he has a cane-- doesn't always need to use it but he has it!
Sokka's cloak is a polar bear dog's hide (as the god of hunting)

Wasn't planning on finishing this one today, but felt like it would be right to get it done for Crit Role's 10th anniversary!
So here's another one for my mock romance novel covers, this time with the Lord and Lady of Whitestone <3
I need some sort of AU where Steve and Robin both have working gaydar, but like for each other. Steve has no idea which guys might be gay, especially if they're into him, but he can tell which girl is gay at a hundred paces and if they could be into Robin, he can spot them a mile off.
Robin is the same, but reversed. They joke it's because they accidentally mixed up their gaydar that day in the mall bathroom but they each accidentally took the wrong half when they left to follow Dustin and Erica.
This is why Steve is so confident about Vickie and Robin can't believe him. It's also why Steve thinks Robin is messing with him for months because there's no way Eddie's into him.

Zutara Turkic AU (Oghuz & Sakha)
I feel like shadowgasts moved on too quickly from the fact that Dairon implies that the metal the volstrucker stabbed Caleb with was likely given to her by the dynasty-empire double agent they were hunting down (Essek)
Episode 77, after the attack and the Nein meet with Dairon:
Saw this from @occidentalavian yesterday and had to respond:
I don’t think Essek did it to gain their trust! I think Essek was legitimately trying to get Caleb killed or stage an incident that might undermine the Dynasty’s willingness to consider a peaceful resolution.
Essek previously permitted unhindered access to the captive Scourger, even with the Bright Queen watching. It was episode 74 that Jester (on Caleb’s behalf) requested a delay for the execution, and then Essek insisted to Caleb in person that they needed to give advance notice to schedule a time to see her again.
While it’s possible that Matt did that for above-table reasons (Mica’s a guest and maybe they didn’t know she was going to join them for more than 1 additional episode), it doesn’t seem especially likely. If they were hard pressed for time toward the end of an episode, Matt could have ended it whenever he needed to and they would pick up in the next.
So for in-game reasons, the cinch of it is why would Essek want the Nein’s trust at this point? They’re a constant security risk for him. Their investigation of the missing beacons carries enormous risk that he would be exposed as the traitor, and he’s been pressed by the Bright Queen to insist that they carry it out. Allowing them to get to know him is practically inviting scrutiny. I think that instead Essek wanted to be rid of them, and when a dragon didn’t eat them, he had an assassination ploy arranged as a backup.
But this is the moment where Essek was standing in ear shot to hear Caleb desperately converse with a Scourger to see if any portion of her regretted what she had done. Essek was there last time and knew that Caleb would speak to her in Zemnian; if he didn’t know Zemnian, it would have been easy to come prepared with Comprehend Languages, either as a scroll or his own cast. Even if Essek hadn’t arranged the shiv (and I still believe he did), he certainly wanted intel at the very least. I expect that he understood the whole conversation.
“Maybe if I could talk plainly with you and see one inch of change, then I wouldn't believe we're all damned.”
I don’t think Essek planned this as a way to gain the Nein’s favor. I think witnessing Caleb’s conversation was the moment that Essek began to have a change of heart. I think Essek believed he was as damned as the Scourger, and he hadn’t believed there was any other option until he heard Caleb say that.
In the aftermath, Essek’s tone of conversation with the Nein is far less abrasive and curt than earlier in the episode. The next time they offer, he agrees to have dinner with them and tells them about himself. Essek invites Caleb to his home. He helps with the spell for Veth.
He talks plainly with them and tries to change.
I suppose my question now then is, if a dragon didn’t kill them, why would he think a prisoner with just a shiv would do the job? Or was there a second part of the plan that he abandoned?
I mean, Caleb’s first instinct was to counterspell, which did nothing because she didn’t cast. She hit his 15 AC with a melee attack and did 26 points of piercing damage. That would have killed the average NPC, and the only reason it didn’t kill Caleb is he’s leveled with hit points.
Narratively, it makes sense to have expected that to kill him. Besides, even if Caleb didn’t die, a violent incident like that would be evidence that peace is not a realistic option to end the war.
I've actually always had an alternative interpretation around why Essek gave the prisoner the shiv, that also explains a)why he was ok with letting the clerics tag along with Caleb, b) why Essek immediately started offering his extra forbidden spells to Caleb after the incident, and c) what the deal was with that 12 persuasion check way back when.
Because if you go waaay back to the moment when Caleb first convinced Essek to teach him, there is a line that I think Essek could have easily misinterpreted as blackmail from the Cerberus Assembly:
So the fact Essek caved so easily to a 12 persuasion check makes me think his early interactions with the Nein were coloured by his suspicion that the Assembly was playing games with him.
However by the time the shiv incident has rolled around, Caleb and the Neins interactions with Essek have been weird enough for Essek to question that earlier assumption.
So what does he do? He arranges a loyalty test! If Essek givs the scourger Caleb is so insistent on meeting a shiv, and then sits back and listens to their conversation (with comprehend language up) he can get a pretty good idea about whether or not Caleb is truly a defector.
Calebs conversation and the fact the scouger probably wouldn't want to kill a high value double agent is the confirmation Essek needs that Caleb isn't still working for Trent/the assembly. At which point Essek's new plan kicks into gear.
He steps in, looks hot and powerful killing the scouger with his offensive Dunemancy, and then seems immediately available to teach Caleb his extra forbidden spells. Because at this point his deal with the Assembly has almost certainly soured and he is desperately scrambling for options. The Mighty Nein have already proven themselves hard to kill, and now he knows they are at odds with the Assembly. So he starts trying to fully honeypot Caleb in the hopes that he can leverage him and the Nein at some point against his enemies (and if they get killed along the way that's fine by him!)
That being said, I never did consider that Essek might have taken Calebs words in the cell to heart! He definitely noticeably relaxes around the Nein after that moment, and seems more prone to joking around with them/showing glimpses of his real personality. I always assumed it was just from him feeling more secure in the Neins (lack of) loyalties. But it makes a lot of sense for Calebs words to have struck a chord with him, and he is consistently shown to be a character that takes on board and reflects on what is said around him. He definitely would have deeply related to Caleb in that moment and I can definitely see it as one of the many cracks that finally broke through Essek's shell of indifference.

Considering the possibility of Holmes being related to the Addams Family, probably on Morticia's side for the Frenchness
Primarily based on these images
But also because I want Holmes and Morticia to speak French, and for him to fence with Gomez, and teach the kids about poisons and criminals
(The family all adore Watson and find him absolutely fascinating, of course)
“Here’s a letter for you, old man,” I announced as I sifted through the morning post one grey day in October. “Not a lot else, I’m afraid.”
Holmes folded down the top of the newspaper he was reading so he could see me. “A letter from whom?”
“Not sure.” I turned it over to study it as best I could. The envelope was thick and expensive, postmarked from America. The ink was rich and black, and it smelled unexpectedly floral, with an odd sulphuric note underneath. “Looks to be a woman’s writing, I’d say.”
“If you would.” He held out a pale hand. I passed him the envelope and he neatly sliced it open with his pocket knife. A single page slipped out onto his breakfast plate. He unfolded it with a flick of his wrist, then smiled. “Ah! Morticia.”
“Morticia?”
“Addams. She is my second cousin.”
I was immediately intrigued, for Holmes so rarely talked about his relatives. It had taken several years after our meeting for him to bring up the subject of his elder brother, who lived and worked barely an hour’s walk away. I wasn’t surprised that a second cousin in America had gone unnoted until now.
“Unusual names run in the family, I see.”
Holmes smirked. “Her grandmother was my great-aunt Séraphine, who met and married a quite singular gentleman named Algernon Frump while travelling. They settled over in the States many years ago, and dear Morticia now resides there with her husband.”
“Why does she write you?”
“She is arranging a sort of family reunion on All Hallow’s Eve. Apparently it has been far too long since we have all seen each other.”
“How long is that?”
“Several years at least. It was certainly before you and I met.”
“And will you oblige her?”
“I suppose I will.” He folded the letter and placed it neatly back in its envelope, tucking it into his inside pocket. “You’ve been angling for a holiday, my boy. Would this satisfy you?”
“Wouldn’t it be terribly rude?” I asked, startled. “She has invited you, not me.”
He tutted. “Nonsense, Watson! Morticia knows we live together, of course.”
“How?”
“She will have read your book.”
“Oh! Well that is kind of her. But a family reunion, Holmes, I am not—”
“You are my partner and intimate friend. I assure you there are members of the Addams clan with far more tenuous connections, and many of them also of no blood relation. You will not be out of place, and they will be glad to meet you.”
