Welcome to the altar. This is a place devoted to the deity Eris. Eris was not worshipped in Hellenic tradition, but through the Discordian epiphany she is with us today.

Notes:

This blog is a blend of Hellenic polytheism/Discordianism, which I am calling Kalopsic Discordianism.

The Story

The story begins with the wedding of the goddess Thetis and the mortal Peleus. They had invited every single deity to this celebration, except for Eris, the goddess of Discord and Strife. She showed up and was sent away. In anger, she threw an apple addressed “To the Fairest” into a crowd. 3 goddesses claimed the apple, Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena. Zeus, not wanting to get on the bad side of any of these goddesses, instructed Hermes to bring them to Paris of Troy, who was then instructed to pick the fairest.

Each goddess offered Paris a gift if he chose her. Hera said he would be the king of all men, Athena promised victory in war, and Aphrodite offered him Helene of Sparta’s hand in marriage. The shepherd chose Aphrodite, and (in some versions) brought her away from her husband Menelaus. This started the Trojan War.

The one bearing arms.

May your courage and ferocity shine down on those who need it most. May your indomitable spirit reach those in times of hardship. May your powerful presence cradle those who cannot fight any longer.

And may we praise thy dreadful name to all those who listen.

Eris is the greek goddess of strife and discord. Her roman equivalent is Discordia, which means the same.

eris is the personified spirit of strife, discord, contention and rivalry. because of eris’ disagreeable nature she was the only goddess not to be invited to the wedding of peleus and thetis. when she turned up anyway and was refused admittance, she raged and threw a golden apple amongst the goddesses inscribed “to the fairest.” three laid claim to it hera, aphrodite and athena, and in their rivalry brought about the events leading up to the trojan war.

If you’re wondering how third-party voters could allow incredible harm to come through their refusal to take a specific correct action, consider when was the last time you wore a mask to protect others from COVID.

It’s so uncomfortable to wear one, right? And nobody around you is doing it, so why should you? Sure people talk about the drastic consequences, but they’re just paranoid. Are you really going to wear a mask in 2024?

And these are just personal comfort reasons. Voting demands personal convictions.

Everyone has different moral directions, especially in personalized spiritualities like paganism. I say this as someone who voted for Harris and still wears a mask in public. Is this really the direction you want your anger to go? Fascism gets boosted when people accept eugenics. We saw it with the 1918 pandemic and we’re seeing it now. It doesn’t have to be this way.
