The reason you aren’t supposed to wash chicken (and definitely not with soap what) is the splashes that come off the chicken now have salmonella, and if I’m remembering right can travel 15ft and now it’s on your clothes and it’s all in the sink now. Do not wash raw chicken.

Chef and culinary scientist here. “Washing” chicken and using natural acids like lime and vinegar were done for years in countries with poor hygene. This was passed along across generations in countries that had since improved their health codes and regulation.

You no longer need to “wash” your chicken. You are doing more harm than good.

If your concern is physical dirt, you can wipe it off with a damp paper towel. If your concern is bacteria, bacteria can be killed with heat. Cook your chicken through and you are fine. If your concern is toxins left behind by certain bacteria, no amount of washing or heating will get those toxins out of that chicken. Throw it away.

So yeah. “Washing” chicken isnt needed. People tend to think they should do it because of outdated information passed down through their family. I knownthat you trust your family, but science says no.
