the fact that liberals are on social media resharing pics of joe and jill bidenās dogs likeĀ āomg we did it!!! weāre gonna have doggos in the white house again, everything is going back to normal!Ā šš¤§ā like I really donāt know what to say other than please shut the fuck up
Fucking teenagers with no understanding of how the world works. Yes, we all think the worldās problems are solved now, itās not just an expression of relief after four years of watching this administration wipe its ass with the constitution. Grow the fuck up.
Both parties are not the same. One side isnāt moving toward reform as fast as they should. The other is embracing terror and repression as policy. Joe Biden is imperfect but basically a decent human being; same with Kamala Harris. Theyāve made mistakes. If you think theyāve committed ācrimes,ā congratulations, youāre dumb enough to buy into right wing propaganda. The alternative was literally dismantling the foundations of American democracy.
We can be an imperfect democracy working to improve and pushing the Biden/Harris administration to make the reforms we need while fixing the damage dive by 45, or we can be a fascist dictatorship. Sounds like an easy choice to me.
Nigga are u serious rn?
Such well-articulated, thoughtful commentary. Go home, child.
Look mistakes only apply to shit like making an off colored joke on twitter when you were 15, not fucking making a bill that managed to incarcerate millions of black people for non violent drug offenses, being an active player in U.S imperialism over the middle east, imposing student debt onto many of us today, being apart of the war on drugs. Hiding evidence that can exonerate men on death row and releasing it only after they were executed, disportionately arresting poor parents who canāt afford to take their children to school for truancy, laughing about the fact that you smoke Marijuana after arresting over 1900+ people for non violent Marijuana charges.
These people have literally ruined lives, and you think nigga Bidenās arthritis was just acting up when he signed those bills. Miss me with that ātHey mAde mIstAkeS!!!ā Bullshit.
This shit isnāt a fucking mistake. Ruining peoples lives isnāt a fucking mistake. Killing innocent civilians oversees for fucking money isnāt a fucking mistake.
This is how know y'all will not hold these bitches accountable for their actions your already starting to excuse this bs.
Yes, because theyāre not literal fascists I clearly think they shouldnāt be held accountable for their past actions and pushed to do the right thing now. Thatās what I said.
Biden already said during the town hall debate that he regrets his vote for the crime bill and he didnt fully comprehend before the damage it did, AFTER people pushed him on it and presented him with the facts. That means activism works and people have the power to effect change. Now people are paying attention more than ever. They have to remain on alert and continue to push for reform to ensure this administration doesnāt get complacent and continues to live up to its promises.
Meanwhile, once again, you have an administration actively encouraging white supremacy, voter fraud, terrorism, treason and violence. And the party that supports it is not only not discouraging it, but indulging it. McConnell and Barr are using the justice department to try to continue to undermine the election, but Iāve seen more people mad here about Bidenās votes 30 years ago and Harrisā actions as a prosecutor than anything about that. One is a direct threat to democracy. One isnāt.
Why are you trying so hardā¦
So hard, to downplay this man and womanās horrible actions, as some kind of āmistakeā
Do I need to continuously list his sins out to you, to show much he has gotten away with, to show how he played a huge role in building this horrible establishment we see today, do i need to do that?
āThey shouldnāt be held accountable for theyāre past actionsā
I want you to tell that, to millions of people affected by drone strikes from Iraq to Yemen, I want you tell that to the people who have suffered under police brutality, because this literal war criminal, helped create a bill that fuckin militarized the police, the millions of people who had their lives destroyed because of mass incarceration, fuckin Justice Clarence Thomas was smeared by this man, he lied, and painted him as a rapist Just so he wouldnāt be able to be sworn into being a Justice, to millions of people affected by student loans today, he helped with the war on drugs, he was there, heās the one that built the fucking cages and his been locking kids in there for quite a while, he was pro-segregationist, he labeled blacks āsuper predatorsā, he is very inappropriate around women, and you have the gall, to say that sentence.
Kamala Harris, this disgusting piece of shit, manages to somehow offend the very people she supposedly is meant to represent, somehow Biden and Harris have a lot in common on having a jolly old time on arresting Black people for non violent drug offenses, and to add insult to injury, she even laughs about it saying āI smoke from time to timeā, she incarcerated thousands of people and proceeds the very thing she incarcerated people for herself, you need to know that these type of charges literally take these peoples lives. They canāt even get out till they hit their 40s or even 50s, for non violent drug charges, sheās not even that great of a prosecuter, like the pig she is, she has blood on her fucking hands, not even releasing evidence for men on death row until after they have been executed, yes she killed them, by simply not releasing evidence that could have saved their lives. She just loves fucking with poor single black mothers who cannot afford to get their kids to school everyday so sheās just gonna arrest them for truancy, she also loves getting people to report undocumented immigrant children to be handed over to ICE, and stripped away from their parents, she doesnāt seem to care much for trans women since she likes to lock them up in the mens part of the prison, which cause the subsequent rape and torture of a trans woman. I could go on and on about these two.
Mistakes. I like how you use that word. As if, he just said some racist statement 50 years ago and tried to retract on it. As if Harris just said some off color joke back then.
You treat these people like theyāre old grandpa and auntie with misguided opinions, when one of them is a corrupted career politician that has been in this game of politics for over 50 years. These people have blood on their hands, they ruined tons of lives, they destroyed families, they have managed to fuck over so many people.
War crimes and imperialism, thats just a mistake he can change š„ŗ
Mass incarceration of black people, it was a mistake people can change š„ŗ
Do you hear yourself? Do you fucking hear yourself.
These are people with blood on their hands, and the only way I know they feel guilt for their sins, is if they decided to fucking turn themselves in and live the rest of their lives as political prisoners. They need to face what they did. If they felt regret, they would show it. They would.
But because they said it, it totally means they regret it.
Words mean fucking nothing. Your actions prove everything.
People dig up bad things Trump supposedly did in the 80s to damn him, but when it comes to Joe or Harris, the past suddenly doesnāt matter.
> Meanwhile, once again, you have an administration actively encouraging white supremacy, voter fraud, terrorism, treason and violence.
Citation needed. And if you bring upĀ āCharlottesvilleā, you automatically lose, for reasons I am quite willing to explain.
And then Iāll point to the left bailing out BLM rioters and turning a blind eye to its violence.
Was reading Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and this little bit came up.
Apparently, contrary to popular assumption, under the new religious way of governing, BOTH Men and women had to change their way of dressing, throw away their possession, and behave differently to appease those few in power. Doing anything different meant that you opposed what the government wanted and you would be deemed a traitor (which more often than not got you jailed or executed.)
Just putting that out there.
People oftentimes donāt realize just how shitty life got common men is in Islamic dictatorships.
Oh yeah, how shitty it is to not wear short sleeve shirts, but you can still rape whoever you want and get to marry the girl, probably underage. Like your first wife. Who isnāt allowed to do anything without your approval, and who you can beat on a daily basis if this 17 year old doesnāt birth you a son real fast.
Did you read the book or are you going to continue proving my point that no one cares about how men were affected to the point of even dismissing the notion that they were?
Even in her book, most of the people ātaken away and never heard from againā (arrested, interogated, and killed for not adhering to the new rules) were male. The same rules that tons of men (including her father) were actually against and tried very hard to oppose.
Or perhaps the comic page also put into Satrapiās book about how girls were given an education on how to be a housewife while boys were being taught how to be child soldiers. How the boys and their parents were being taught that dying was the ultimate honor.
Are you truly so offended that people, including the author that lived through the experience, correctly include men as victims?
Did YOU read the book? Because I wonder what the author would have to say of your constant āwhatabout men?!ā ism? Yes, men were oppressed (still are) too. *Everyone*, really, was oppressed. Oppression is the starting level, the default. Yes, men were conscripted. There isnāt anyone in a fundamentalist Islamic society going to endorse giving a woman a gun. Or any degree of power outside of the narrow and still male-dominated confines of home, for that matter.
And at a feeble least, men in Iran could hope to one day be leaders.
I did read the book. Iām the OP. That picture is literally from the book. The very first sentence of the post mentions that I was reading it. She figuratively said āwhat about the menā multiple times throughout the book by including experiences that were not her own. By including the opinions of men who disagreed with the government changes. By including that both women AND men had restrictions on their clothing options. That little boys were being trained to fight and die. That tons of men were being taken away and presumably killed for resisting, at least more regularly than women were. Yes, she included men in her story.
Lol you want to hate men so much that merely including men as victims, not focusing on them but merely including them, is seen as a threat. Is seen as misogyny. Dont even try to claim that you support gender equality with that attitude.
I wonder how many women were and are beaten to death by their husbands in Iran, before it ever even got to the point of being out in public? Anyway. No. I donāt hate men in the least. What I could credibly be said to hate, however, is the notion that women donāt have it so bad because hey men suffer too-which is a narrative you continually push. You *donāt* just say āmen suffer, tooā, you point to situations where there is significant or even terrible gender inequality and spout off some stupid horseshit like ābut the draft!ā Or for instance I noticed you dropped the conversation about which gender works more when actual numbers came up.
Lol. So, that at least I could be said to hold in contempt, if not hatred.
So youāve pretty much confirmed that you see the inclusion of men as victims as a threat. As a competition. You cant simply say āmen and boys also had a lot of stuff to deal withā, no, you went on the defensive.
āYou donāt just say āmen suffer tooāā. But thatās the thing. People honestly donāt know that men suffer too. Entire governments donāt understand this. The mere acknowledgement that men face inequalities is often seen as laughable, as misogyny. People get defensive, quite literally like what youāre doing now .
Literally no one says that women ādont have it so bad because men sufferā. Menās suffering is rarely even recognized. Again, you just proved that you took the inclusion of men in recognized issues as some sort of attack on women.
ā i noticed that you dropped the conversation when I mentioned which gender works moreā
I didnt because you didnt mention it. But if you really want to go there, it would be men. It depends in what you define as āworkā, but since I mentioned men and boys quite literally conscripted and taught that dying wasnt a big deal, I would say that would be a pretty good indicator. Not that any of that matters. You tried to change the conversation because the original point was lost on you and you couldnt offer any valid counterargunent.
So anyway, the assumption is often that bad things only happened to women. That inequalities only happened to women. Entire governments and activist groups spout this. And someone who actually lived it, literally a picture from her very book, shows that tons of these things happened to men too. You can get all angry and defensive that women arenāt receiving 100% of the attention and sympathy, but donāt you dare say you support gender equality when you discourage talking about half the population, especially when someone who lived them is quite literally exposing inequalities to address.
If your response is you trying to make oppression into a competition, you trying to discourage talking about/recognizing men as victims, you taking offense to the inclusion of men, or you bringing up an irrelevant argument to take attention off of the very clear topic of this post being that men were also targetted; donāt bother replying.
I straight up posted stats from the bureu of labor statistics showing that, no, itās not men, but whatever. I donāt object to men being included, I object to *your* effort to make it a competition-one that you think men are āwinningā.
Menās suffering is *constantly* recognized, which is only natural, since even the most progressive governments on the planet are generally run by men. Are there areas where that suffering is accepted as the status quo or minimized because only the right class of men suffer? Sure, absolutely.
What I object to isnāt refering to the suffering of men. What I object to is that when itās brought up that, say, itās legal in a given society to rape a woman and then murder or enslave her if she complains, youāll say, āBut what about conscription!ā YOU think itās a competition.
Reread that last paragraph.
Again, youre angry that men are included. She didnt even focus on men. She just briefly included them. And youre angry. Defensive. Offended.
No, issues men face are not widely recognized. Basically anywhere. Rape is still gendered for a majority of the worldās population, even in much of the US. But include men in talks about rape and you getā¦well the reaction youre giving now. Men are disproportionately ignored in cases of domestic violence by police, society, and the government. A wildly disproportionate lack of government funded shelters in every country that has them, male victims being more likely to be arrested themselves, and even an entire country (India, with a HUGE population) not eve counting female on male DV as DV. Where issues like police brutality, where men make up an overwhelming dispropirtionate majority of victims, is made entirely about black people. Where setecing disparities that are 6 times larger than sentencing disparities between black and white people, literally backed by gendered crime definitions, is completely ignored.
Iām telling you that issues men face, even the same issues other groups face, is quite often ignored by society, activist groups, and entire governments. It isnāt considered progressive to care about men for being male (unless they are a celebrity). Including men in equality and standing up for men, regardless of the issue, is typically frowned upon. Again, it typically results in people like you getting offended or defensive.
Again, literally all that was done here was the author (who literally lived through this) mentioning the issue of societal dress codes affecting men too. She didnt say that it only affected men. She didnt make the book about men specifically. She sprinkled in a few comic panels including men as victims. And you had an absolute fit over it.
Youre exactly why itās so difficult for men to come forward with their legitimate issues, and why people dont take said issues seriously.
Also nice of you to ignore that I brought up little boys, preteens, being conscripted. Not being taught math or history, but survival tactics in school because they were very likely to die, as if it wasnt a big deal. Or perhaps how, even in her book, it was mostly men getting murdered by the government for not conforming to the new rules. You worked really hard to minimalize that, didnt you?
Since you dont seem to be getting it, getting how youāre getting angry at the minor inclusion of a typically ignored group, I am going to let you just get angry. And when you calm down, i will give you time to really go over this conversation, and how you were wrong before your first comment was made. Given the conversation so far, I dont have faith that you will learn, but iām giving it some time. Take all the time that you need. Just dont reply until you can do that much. This is very tiring.
Of course Tumblr is mad when men are victims.
Even if theyāre Muslim.
Tumblr is mad that people think men can be victims for being men. Without trying to twist it intoĀ ātoxic masculinityā (IE menās own fault).

Again, doors are voice activated, or just unlocked by entering a code.Ā No keys.Ā Ā
Communication devices are tiny and stick onto clothing starting in Next Gen.Ā TOS had bulkier communication that they carried around or kept in, like, packs and stuff, so the arguments for pockets is a little more valid, and if I remember correctly, those costumes didĀ have pockets, tho I could be wrong about that.Ā But anything post TNG, the point is moot anyway.
Tricorders and phasers are really the only thing anyoneās carrying around, and thatās usually on away missions where theyād be bring their packs/holsters or just have them out.Ā I mean, who wants to stick a phaserĀ in their pocket?Ā Ā
So, yeah.Ā Thereās not much little stuff people needĀ to carry around everywhere.Ā And if they are preparing for a longer journey or want to bring bulkier things, wellā¦just bring a bag.Ā It fits more anyway.Ā Ā Ā
what if i find a cool rock and want to take it home with me
Every time a member of the USS Enterprise has found a cool rock and taken it home, it has resulted in eleven deaths, six temporal displacements, the holodecks breaking again, and somebody getting turned into a lizard. Pockets are a privilege, not a right.
Iāve gotten more notes on this comment than anything else Iāve ever posted, but this is the best addition to it Iāve ever seen. Thank you.
Meanwhile Bones has like six rocks and a neat lizard in his fucking pockets⦠the hypocriteā¦

In the 1960s it was a common speculation that by 1980 the typical work week would consist of 4 days. And by the year 2000 weād be working no more than 3 days a week.
Because of computerization, automation, and better efficiencies in workflow.
Guess what happened instead?
Believe it or not the 8 hour workday is a result of workers protesting 12 to 14 hour workdays.Ā Businesses would work you forever if they could--and they still outsource jobs to countries where they can get people to work up to 16 hours a day.

I also like how OP is based entirely on presenting a subjective opinion as an objective truth.
Hell even with 8 hours of sleep a day and 8 hours of work, youre at barely over half a week. That's not counting vacation days. And youd sleep atleast the same if not more without working so its a bit unfair to count sleep.

Support LiveAction instead of supporting murder.
Yeah, thereās a reason for that.
Itās called: antisemiticĀ caricature.
I donāt understand whatās Jewish about mother gothel⦠she has a typical Disney face doesnāt she? Is it the curly hair..? I mean her nose and everything else seem normal?
Iām sorry, Iām just trying to figure it out, you donāt have to answer if you donāt want to.
dark curly hair - long hooked nose - darker complexion than the blond blue eyed heroine 9and really the rest of the cast - portrayed as greedy and evil.
Lisa Edelstein is Jewish. Ā As are Idina Menzel and Amy Winehouse, both of whom I have seen compared in looks to Gothel. Ā Gothelās design is a pretty clear caricature of ethnically Jewish women. Ā
This is a pretty good contrast between Rapunzel and Gothel. Ā Rapunzel has the ātypical Disney faceā:
Hereās a more close up look at her features.
The hooked nose becomes even more pronounced as she becomes āeviler.ā
If you wanted to claim that there was noting out of the ordinary for Disney animation when it came to Gothelās features, you would have to find at least one Disney princess or heroine with similar characteristics (long hooked nose and dark curly hair, etc).
But here is what we have is -
small noses that turn up at the end:
wide, flatter noses (though cheers to Disney for not putting button noses on their characters of color, although Esmereldaās clothing design deserves another essay on Rromani stereotypes and there are some major issues with Pocahontas as well)
And then a few misc noses (again, props for Jasmineās nose not being a button):
Apart from just the design of Gothel, thereās also the whole: āobviously āotherā (read Jewish) woman kidnaps the pretty blonde (read: gentile) kid to use her for ritualistic/magical purposesā
Like that right there on top of the aesthetic Jewish-coding is what pushed the antisemitic caricature over the top for me. Ā It harkens back to antisemitic blood libel that claimed that Jews stole gentile children for all manner of nefarious reasons. Even when Gothel is in āmotherā role to Rapunzel, sheās is shown as nagging and passive aggressive, both antisemitic stereotypes of Jewish women.
There is no one thing that makes her an antisemitic caricature, but the design, plus the storyline she plays out, plus her characterization cement the overall character as antisemitic. Ā
Jew-coding a villain is not in itself always antisemitic when there are also Jewish coded heroes. Rapunzel does not have that.
Having a villain steal a baby for magical/ritualistic reasons is not always antisemitic as long as the villain is not Jew-coded. Ā Rapunzel fails this as well.
Having a nagging and passive aggressive mother character is not antisemitic provided that she is not, again, coded as Jewish. Ā Rapunzel fails once again.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: @ariminak pointed out that some of my wording made it sound like Gothelās features onlyĀ stereotypically caricatured Ashkenazi women when in fact that is not the case. Ā I changed the language to remove that phrasing and make it clear that any ethnically Jewish women can be affected by this type of aesthetic trope. If you reblogged the old version, could you please delete it and reblog this one instead.
Spread this version so people recognize that this stuff harms all Jewish women.
omfg can yāall chill the fuck out, any race can be portrayed as hero or villain, itās a fucking kids movie not a political statement
So Iām guessing youāre white and a gentile. As such, youāve more than likely grown up looking at tv and movies and fairytales and seeing your face in those of the heroes.
Jewish people donāt get that. Ā When we are portrayed in live action, our characters are more often than not whitewashed and in other media, our features are used and caricaturized to create āevil lookingā villains.
You donāt see it because youāve been ingrained with the idea that āethnicā features are just āhow you make a character look evil.ā Ā You donāt look at Gothel and see your mother. Ā You donāt see yourself and your people. Ā You donāt see decades of propaganda aimed at fostering hate against you and ultimately seeking to destroy you. Ā
But seeing how you also seem to think that saying youāre not attracted to an entire race of people ISNāT racist, you really donāt get any say on any of this.
So really, you need to chill the fuck out and stop telling marginalized people to stop talking about the tools of our own marginalization.
Letās play a game I like to call: Movie Villain or Antisemitic Propaganda:
Many āevil witchā tropes were built on European antisemitic stereotypes, not just in appearance but in the storylines they play out as well. Greediness, stealing children, killing children, hunger for power, etc. Ā Every time a movie villain design uses stereotyped Jewish features to communicateĀ āevilnessā to an audience, they perpetuate the marginalization of the people they are using.Ā
One big issue I have is that Gothelās didnāt start out as the antisemitic caricature that made it to screen. Ā Much of the early concept art has a more dark romanticism feel. Ā
They changed the original design. Presumably to make Gothel moreĀ āotherā from the good characters in the movie. Ā At some point, a decision was made that dark curly hair and a hooked nose wound better convey their villain.
It really doesnāt matter if any of this was intentional, Iād actually bet that it wasnāt. Ā However, antisemitic tropes are so engrained in our societies that people like you, even when confronted with a step by step break down of what it is, feel comfortable thinking that thereās nothing wrong with it and mocking those calling it out as if we are overreacting.
You seem to have completely ignored the majority of my post. Ā It is the character design, plus the characterization, plus the story line that mirrors blood libel that makes Gothel an antisemitic character. Ā Itās not just about someone of a certain race or ethnicity being a villain. Ā Itās about how stereotypes of a certain ethnic group are understood asĀ āvillainousā due to villains being repeatedly coded as Jewish over decades of film and tv.
And contrary to your naive belief, all media is political to some extent. Every time a historically present minority is not included in film (ex: lily-white Harlem in Fantastical Beasts) or when a minority character is whitewashed, or when the āethnicā features of a minority are used almost universally to portray bad guys, it is a political and social issue. Ā When you never see yourselves as the people who play the hero or even see your people existing in a portrayal of a place where they should be, it is not benign.
Reblogging again for these additions.
Got into an argument a long time ago with a white man about a very similar issue (dark skin, curly hair, wide hips being portrayed as ugly in kids shows and the harm in it)
This does a good job explaining Why itās so harmful for those who have never experienced it themselves
Okay, I didnāt have the chance to reblog it this morning, but maybe thatās a good thing because let me say I was VERY ANGRY (And I still slightly am) over how oblivious some of you are to Mother Gothelās design process by calling the artists, people you have NEVER MET, racist, and deeming the character āJewish-codedā because no one bothered to research the character and figure out WHY she was the way she was.
Now, please bear with me because now that Iāve gotten my emotions out of the way, Iām going to try to be more mellow in what Iām about to lay out:
First, Mother Gothelās visual appearance. Before everything else, I want to ask how sheās darker complexion?
In fact in some scenes, she even looks paler than Rapunzel, like she has less color. I donāt know where youāre getting that, and this is a genuine question.
As for the dark curly hair part⦠Mother Gothel was physically based off of two people.
1. Her actress, Donna Murphy:
Who, shockingly, has dark curly hair and somewhat of a hooked nose.
2. Cher. Honestly I doubt thereās a lot of people who donāt know who Cher is, but either way:
So Gothel is based off of two very real people, but somehow thatās a caricature and somehow that MIGHT be racist. Not to mention a quote:Ā āThe directors also strived to make it obvious that Mother Gothel and Rapunzel are not related. Greno told Animation World Network, āWhen theyāre standing together, it is very clear that this is not a mother and daughter, just by the frames of their bodies, their hair, the pigments of their skinā¦ā
A lot of people arenāt aware of this, but when Disney characters undergo redesigns, itās usually after the characterās actor gets cast, the character designers get a sample of their voices, and they want to rework the characterās physical appearance to match the actor or actress along with an unrelated famous person. The same thing happened to Yzma from Emperorās New Groove when Eartha Kitt was cast to play her:
And Ursula is based off of a drag queen by the stage name of Divine.
Ā Even with Gothelās actress āMurphy revealed that scenes with Gothel and Rapunzel were actually recorded opposite one of the directors impersonating Moore,[5] who also explained to Murphy that Gothelās design will continue to evolve as the character begins to adapt the actressā mannerisms.ā
Now, as for the characterization of Mother Gothelā¦Ā ā You donāt look at Gothel and see your mother.ā Thatās not true, because the artistic directers Byron Howard and Nathan Greno interviewed several female Disney employees and asked them to tell them about negative traits that their own mothers had.
āSeeking inspiration for Gothel and Rapunzelās ābizarreā relationship, Greno and Howard conducted a series of interviews with several female Disney employees,[3] asking them to list qualities in their mothers that āthey found annoying and cloying or restrictingā,[8] specifically āthe things that their mothers would do that made them feel trapped or made them feel smotheredā to make the villain appear more relatable.[7] Gothelās āMother Knows Bestā line āGetting kind of chubbyā was in fact borrowed from one of these interviews.āĀ Which also lead into the characterization argument.Ā
The movie has to have a villain. The classic story of Rapunzel had a villain. They took a blend of EVERYTHING: Physical looks based on real people, character traits based on real people, and the storyās backbone that there was an evil sorceress who had locked Rapunzel in a tower.
So after all of this, I guess what my main question to you guys is this: What would you RATHER Disney have done with the character, keeping all of this information in mind? What do you do to make her less ofĀ āa caricatureā orĀ āJewish codedā when absolutely nothing has come from a specific Jewish source?
Miss ya Mags, thanks for these though
