ERNEST TROVA
In late 1968 Ernest Trova was producing "The Trova Index", a collection of objects and ephemera to be published as a limited edition the following year by the Pace Gallery and Abrams Publishing. Along with a small sculpture, a Falling Man wristwatch, prints and cartoons, one of the components of the Trova Index was to be an LP record of songs written by the artist and recorded by professional studio musicians in New York City. Interestingly, the musician hired to record the songs was a soon to be famous but then unknown singer/songwriter named Jim Croce.
Aside from a very small number of CDs the artist had made as Christmas gifts for friends in the early 2000s, the songs written by Trova and recorded by Jim Croce haven't been heard since they were abandoned in 1969. There are several recordings that will be posted in the coming weeks, the first of which will be a version of a song titled "Who's Gonna Cry When the World is Over"- written by Ernest Trova, sung by Jim Croce.
