tracing a ref image, especially one you didn't make, for art that is visible to strangers, is, indeed, more often than not, bad. am i crazy. i feel crazy
i'm not saying the art fight rules aren't dumb; who cares if you trace a 3d model you made/posed or a reference image that you took. but i do think we should be a little more careful with the idea that tracing someone else's photography is anything less than ... tracing someone else's art. if it's bad when it's something someone drew, why is it less bad when it's something someone captured?
and if you want my ACTUALLY maybe mean opinion that i apply to my own art, it's that tracing past the sketch stage (which i would only do for models i've made) is a slippery slope that should be avoided and stunts artistic growth and understanding. but that's my own standards
referencing an image != tracing an image. using references always good. tracing references commonly bad
