Bolaji Badejo, a Nigerian design student wearing his Costume for the Sci-Fi thriller-Alien, 1978
So much more than a Nigerian design student — he was the only person tall enough, at 2.08m, to wear this costume for Alien to appear menacing on screen, something Scott (the dir.) believed made the storytelling more compelling.
Further still, Bolaji lived with Sickle Cell Anaemia — a disease that solely affects blacks and brown people, and is being spotlighted in Rapman’s Supacell (2024-). He was also an incredible visual artist.
