“Isn’t that silly?” Edgar put down his novel between them, shifting to lay his side against the back of the bench and look at Killy. “What else but the unexpected should we expect from life?” Then, he remembered how much he believed he was in control, before he died. “We always think we can control our life. Sometimes, we even become arrogant enough to think that perhaps, we could escape from death.” Manage to do so, and you would become a reaper, he bitterly thought.
“How would you like life to surprise you?”
-
Killy watched the man’s lips, taking in his words and humming softly in thought. “I think my life is the definition of a lack of control. Very little of what has occured to me has actually been in my control.” He had learned to accept that and lean into it. Simply allowing life to take the lead on where he is supposed to go.
“I suppose... I would l like life to surprise me by giving me the opportunity to put my music into the world in a meaningful or impactful way. What aboout you sir?”
ava-montgomery:
“I really don’t mind,” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “I can always get another set.” She smiled lightly at him, and licked her lower lip just a bit. But, she wouldn’t push them on him, either. She began to put the airpods up. “I’m Ava,” she introduced.
-
Honestly-- Killy didn’t really like taking much from others. He had very little himself and he had to admit that he cherished his few belongings. It was strange to him that someone could just simply replace what they gave away or lost. He offered a smile, willing to move on from that topic of conversation, “I’m Killy, miss.”
donniexmiller:
Donnie wasn’t sure what to make of what Killy was saying. Everything had an answer. Or at least, that’s how Donnie felt. He was the type that would go to the ends of the earth to find an answer. He nodded though at his words. “It is nice out here,” he murmured. “Nothing else seems to matter does it?”
-
For Killy, he had learned to accept non-answers long ago. Questions of why he was the way he was or left wondering what the future might hold for him. It was pointless to seek answers for those things, it would only tear at him. Killy shook his head and ran a hand back through his hair, “No... Peace like this is hard to find in our world anymore... If you listen... this place is unpolluted by the grinding of more populated spaces.”
xdakotawintersx:
“Oh, gosh, that sucks,” they said, frowning a bit when he told them what had happened. “I hate when shit like that happens.” They tilted their head a little bit at him. “You can borrow my charger, if you need to,” they offered.
Eskil offered a gentle smile to the other, surprised at the kindness. “I can walk back to the dorms and get it...” He told them softly, “Thank you... it’s just... the noise.” He raised a hand and moved it around his ear. “I don’t do very well with the noise... I find it hard to focus.”
With little money, Eskil didn’t have the chance to get Christmas gifts for those he had slowly come to call friends. Instead, he gathered some of what he felt was his best work on both the piano forte and keyboard onto one CD. These CD’s have been passed to those who have showed him kindness and friendship.

Donnie smiled at Killy as he sat beside him. “Good,” he said. “It’s kind of nice out here even with company.” He sighed and leaned back just a bit, resting on his elbows when he did so. “Did you find any answers up here?” he asked him curiously. “Or just come up with more questions?”
-
Killy shifted his body so that he could keep his eyes on the man’s face and to his lips. Doing his best to make sure that he didn’t miss anything that the other was saying. “I’m not sure the questions I have... truly have answers.” He responded softly with a quick shrug of his shoulders. “I’m just... Enjoying it here. The sound of the water... the rush of the air through my hair.”
xdakotawintersx:
Dakota was passing by the table, when they heard him speak. They stopped, looking around. They didn’t think that he was yelling at them, but he was clearly upset about something. They found themselves sticking their nose where it didn’t belong, as they made their way over to him.
“Can I help you?” they asked him, before setting their hands on the table, and leaning forward a bit. “You’re making a bit of a scene.”
-
Killy looked up just in time to catch the end of what they were saying. He blushed slightly and cleared his throat, “Sorry... I uh... I didn’t mean to...” He began to fiddle nervously with his airpods as he looked them over. “I just... They just died... I fell asleep with them in last night and didn’t charge them. It was dumb-- that’s all.”
ava-montgomery:
Ava had her own airpods in, when there was a pause between songs, and she heard someone cussing near her side. She cocked her head a little bit, and made her way over to him. She glanced from the airpods, to him, to the work in front of him.
“Would you like to borrow mine?” she offered, removing the other one from her ear. “They’re clean, I promise.” She offered him a little smile at this.
-
Eskil looked at the woman, surprised at the sudden offer of handing of her airpods to him. He blushed slightly, unsure of what to do with the offer. “I uh... It’s okay-- I don’t want to take them from you.” She was obviously enjoying them. The last thing that he wanted to do was take joy from anyone else.
heyxmissxjude:
“Always good to know my professors aren’t overwhelming our students,” was offered with a grin, though her lips pursed slightly in amusement. “May I?” One manicured finger lingered above the sheet music, awaiting permission to peruse what he’d been working on.
Jude’s smile was almost indulgent as he confessed his problem, head tilting in contemplation. “Your airpods. Pardon me if I’m being too forward but I can only wonder, between those and your need to read lips - auditory processing issues, of some sort?” Though she did make a mental note to pick him up a second pair and an additional charger for him. Part of her job was to look out for her students’ needs, but the djinn’s innate generosity all but demanded it.
“And a pleasure to meet you as well, Eskil. Scandinavian?” Once upon a time she might not have picked up the entomology, but over a year in Iceland changed things.
-
Killy nodded his head, “Yes... Of course.” He pushed the sheet music towards her to look at. He knew that his notes were scribbled on the side. Additions to the music where he would see it added. He could already hear the piece in his head, but he was unsure if it would make sense to anyone else.
The slave cleared his throat and gave her a soft smile, “Yes... Auditory Verbal Agnosia to be specific... It mostly means that things like spoken language... My brain just doesn’t process it. Music is one of the only things that just makes... sense.”
The man was surprised that she seemed to catch on so well, “My father is Scandinavian... I was named after a grandfather... I know it’s a mouthful.”
professor-emsworth:
-
“Oh?” His arms crossed over his chest, the professor studied him with interest, though was quick to uncross them. There was no signing in such a position. “That makes quite a lot of sense,” Edgar agreed. He never had children, never had the chance. He tried not to think about it, to think of what he could have been like had he been a father.
“There’s a form of respect in reading a book over and over again,” he smiled to himself, then turned to the student, nodding along. “I do. I never expected to ever play music, but life,” or death, “has a way to surprise you.”
-
Killy nodded his head. He knew that some people saw him as weak after he said that, but he never saw himself as weak. He had survived all of that and he was thriving now. He no longer got sick like he did when he was a small boy. Sure, maybe he caught a common cold more often than someone else-- but that wasn’t something he had to worry about.
The man nodded his head, though he was very pleased to see that the two of them had more in common than he had initially thought. “I think... people never expect to be surprised by life.”
professorxwolf:
Ciaran waited patiently for the male to acknowledge him. Maybe he hadn’t wanted to be bothered, which made sense in a library he supposed. Arching a dark brow as the young man paid more attention to his earbuds than the six-foot figure looming over him, the wolf had already half turned on his heel to make a stealthy exit when Silent, Seated, and Handsome finally spoke.
“Aye, just asked if ya needed anythin’. Ya seemed..distressed.” Ciaran spoke up a bit more this time, as apparently he had been more quiet than he realized. “Sorry, I’ve already been given my allotted amount of ‘quiet the fuck down’ warnings this year or I woulda spoken up more” He joked.
Eskil’s eyes immediately turned to the man’s lips, watching them move this time so that he wouldn’t miss what was being said this go around. He blushed slightly, knowing that he had been being too loud himself. “I uh... sorry--” He cleared his throat.
“My airpods died... And I kind of... rely on them, I guess.” He smiled sheepishly before letting it drop. “Not a great excuse for making a scene. I know.”

“Oh ? I always felt as if parents had gotten softer all over the years. What was your childhood like?” The professor leaned into the bench, looking ahead of him. He barely remembered his own, except for the routine. “I’m glad you appreciate it,” he gave the other a pat on the arm.
“That’s kind of you to say. I used to be most severe when my younger students damaged the pages of their textbooks,” it was a different time, and he had moved on, leaving his ires to students who could appreciate them. “Funny you would say that, I happen to play the cello,” the professor said with his warmest smile yet.
-
“I don’t think you can use my childhood as an example... I was...” He paused, unsure of how to phrase it, “I was an ill child... I got sick often.” He said with a quick nod of his head. “So my parents liked to keep me safe after it was clear I was going to... thrive.” He wasn’t usually sure how to speak about the fact that it hadn’t been clear if he would have made it past the age of five.
Killy nodded his head, “I think... I can understand that more... But a worn book, it’s different.” He responded easily. He let out a laugh, “You do play? How wonderful!”
donniexmiller:
Donnie liked coming here. It was peaceful and he felt as though he could just think and breathe out here. He hadn’t anticipated running into someone else up here but he wasn’t too disappointed about it. He cocked his head at Killy and smiled lightly at him, nodding. “It is,” he said. “Did you come here for the peace and quiet as well?” he asked him. “I’m not intruding on anything, am I?” He smiled lightly at him.
-
Killy offered a bright smile at the other. He wondered what might be going on in Donnie’s head. Something that might be bothering him. “I did.” He agreed with the other before he settled down next to him, hoping that the man wouldn’t be bothered that the place hadn’t been empty. “No... I don’t mind your company.”
@donniexmiller
Eskil had sought out a peaceful place to be for a little while. The waterfall had fit the bill if only because it seemed to be devoid of all people. He’d found himself sitting towards the edge of the water and for once was without his airpods. He was simply basking in the sounds of the waterfall and the feel of the soft mist of the water. It was because of this that he was able to hear another person approach. He turned, looking over his shoulder and offering a soft smile. “Hi... It’s beautiful... Isn’t it, sir?” Killy relaxed when he realized he knew the other already, even if only in passing.
Are you monogamous or polyamorous?
"I haven't really thought about this... I guess I've always been monogamous-- but I'm not against being polyamourous with the right person... or people? I don't know... I only really had one relationship but that was with a person I felt like I had to be with. So I guess I don't have enough experience to talk on it."
