Not really. Some American writers get English things and places right, and some get them wrong. Some English writers get American things right and some get them wrong. As a general rule, the ones who get the UK most right have spent the most time there.

She could have gone round to see him at Mum and Dad’s any time she wanted, there was something rather glamourous about arranging to meet him at a sophisticated bar like this. ‘Oh, tonight?’ she’d been able to casually say in the staff room at St Mungos that afternoon, ‘yes, I’m meeting my brother in a little muggle bar in Mayfair. He’s just got back from America, so we’re due a catch up.’

She quite enjoyed channelling her cousin Victoire at moments like this, because most of the time she rather embodied the standard Weasley sense of chaotic energy and scruffy-chic, so she made the most of feeling anonymous in muggle London by sitting in a very poised way with her cocktail, imagining she was French, and wishing she had one of those “fone” things that all the other people around her were staring at. She wouldn’t know what to do with one, but they seemed to set off the ‘don’t give a shit, I’m just naturally this elegant’ look quite well. With relaxed, jazzy sort of muggle music softly playing behind the murmuring of the other patrons, and the uncomfortable but stylish chairs, and the slight ache of her feet in the new heels she had hurriedly changed into at the end of her long shift, she really felt as though she was finally breaking free of the ‘baby of the family’ role and coming into her own.

what r ur thoughts on Harry being a simp

Well, I’m glad I got this ask, because on the off-chance this isn’t trolling, I’m actually really uncomfortable with the word “simp.” It might be a cool buzzword, but I find its origins incredibly sexist. If you’re unfamiliar with the original acronym, do yourself a favor and look it up. It’s just flat-out disgusting and degrading.

And yes, I’ve heard claims the intent of “simp” has somehow changed and no longer reflects the original acronym. I have two major problems with this claim. First, trying to tell me “I just don’t understand” that an offensive word is no longer offensive is reminiscent of my middle school experience, when it was the height of cool to use “gay” as a synonym for anything negative. When I voiced my objections to that at age 13, I was told almost the same thing: I “just didn’t understand” that “gay” didn’t really mean gay. Today, everyone seems to have a better understanding that “gay” absolutely meant gay all along; it was just cool, somehow, to equate being gay to being lesser.

Second of all, if we’re assuming the acronym no longer applies... is it really a good thing to go with the second definition of “simp” meaning “simpleton”? Is that a great thing to call someone? Cause it feels a bit ableist, and I’m not a fan.

So. If you mean “simp” as a synonym for an MRA, please use that term instead... but if you’re asking me to mock a man who dares to show affection for a woman and reject traditional gender norms, please look somewhere else for that nonsense. Thanks.
