i totally agree that harry's an amazing character and i love him so much and people dont talk about him enough so u should rant about why he's ur fav golden era character
he's not nice but he's kind. at his very core he's kind, even despite everything. he's not friendly and he's a bitch (all three of them are, honestly, none of them have a lot of friends and they get on people's nerves all the time) but he is good. like recognizes like, you know?
the msot prevalent examplse are dobby and luna, both characters who have been ostracized or looked down on before, and even if it takes some time for harry to warm up to both of them, he never talks about them behind their backs like others and never puts them down if he can help it
he is so extremely complex and working through my rtb fic i'm seeing more and more adn actually sitting with him as a character and he is such a tortured soul, but he keeps fighting, he keeps going, even if it's just out fo spite. he is so destructively loyal, again going back to his innate kindness and innate goodness, just remember when he crucio'd one fo the carrow twins for going after mcgonagall
he's snarky and sassy and hilarious and such a little shit (affectionate)
he's so empathetic. he's not afraid to second-guess himself, specifically after snape's worst memory. it was such an important arc for harry to grapple with that view of james, to kind of reconcile the hero his father was made out to be with someone he himself could picture being a victim of, and kind of confront his own view of his parents, sirius, and remus
his inner conflicts are so grounded in reality. he spent his childhood belittled and abused by the dursleys and dudleys gang and it's obvious that it weighs on his psyche, he cites time and time again that hogwarts, ron, and hermione are basically all he has going for him in the first few books, and there are even instances where similar treatments follow him around hogwarts, especially when the rumor mill kicks up. but he keeps going
he does think less of himself at times, and i think i've touched on that a few times in lmgitcde that i think he definitely struggles with feeling inferior and ostracized and idk that's something i rlly related to as a kid and reflecting on my own childhood so there's a kinship there
also his reactions to learning about frank and alice and basically everything relating to them and neville. he feels upset on neville's behalf because he thinks that neville is the one who deserves all the sympathy harry gets for his parents being dead. he is so compassionate towards the longbottoms, and after his trial in ootp he upends his coin bag into the fountain for donations to st. mungos and i think that speaks more to his character than perhaps anything else. it's such an underrated moment
