“I, um,” she lifted her hand with an old shirt in it, “It’s an old one from Matt. I’m kind of hoping to finally leave all my damage in the past,” she shrugged.

“Um.. yes?” Saige looked over at twister and at all of the set up of corn hole. “I can play these games all fall but to see a fight break out? That’s way more fun.”

“I feel like that hints at some unspoken violence in you and it’s a little concerning.”

Saige was taking a sip of her drink and stopped it halfway to her mouth. “That is… such a good point. I didn’t even think about that! We can’t leave this spot, if that happens and I miss it I swear it’ll be the worst thing to happen to me this week.”

“Wait, what? All these games and activities and what you want most is to watch someone get into a fistfight over twister?” she laughed.

“Life’s much more fun when you live it outside of your own little box, Es,” he grinned, taking the lime from her, lifting up his shirt as he laid back down. “You’re artistic too, so how about you let loose with me.”

“I’m trying, but I have to say that my box is kind of comfortable,” she shot him a look. “Two very different types of artistic. I don’t make things the way you do,” she shook her head. “Besides, I’m out trying to have fun. Doesn’t that count for something?”

“You’re just trying to not get your ass kicked by me because that’s what would happen,” he pointed out. “But I could use a drink. Do you have the password to the speakeasy?”

“I think you’re much too willing to kick my ass if we really want to get into it,” she laughed. “Oh, I think I did find it...but...it seems to have slipped my mind?” she offered him a hesitant smile.

“No way. People aren’t going to fight over Twister, if anything they’re just going to start making out over Twister.” 

“What’s going to happen is someone is going to try to put a move on the wrong person through twister and someone’s SO is going to get upset.”

“Good. Because it would just end shitty,” she slid one of the shots she had ordered for herself in front of her without looking.

The conversation had only just started and already she felt stuck. She was freaking out in her own head when she noticed the shot being slid in front of her and looked up at Rae questioningly.

“What do you think the odds are that a fight breaks out over cornhole?” She took a sip of her drink, actually liking the feeling of the small town more than she normally did. “I actually think they’re a lot higher than anyone is recognizing.” 

“But over cornhole of all things? I feel like twister gone wrong is a much more likely culprit.”

“Fuck it, we’re doing body shots,” Atlas was more drunk than he’d normally be, trying to push past a shit mood, and this was his way of doing so as he climbed up onto the table. “Who’s got the lime?”

“You really do put yourself way out there, don’t you?” she laughed and reached for a lime to hand him. “I guess it makes sense that artistic people like to let loose.”

“Not an endless source! We could make it a trade. What would you like in exchange for saving me from the flying embers?”

“Hey, last time I made an offer to help you, you turned me down. Now you just want me to be your knight in shining armor but at what cost?”

“I seem to remember giving you a rain check and then the next time I asked for help you wanted to come in costume. How is it different now?”

“Why should I be the one to suffer? This seems like an old school way of thinking.”

“I can’t believe you’d let me suffer instead to save yourself,” she shook her head. “I’m so disappointed in you.”

“I bake and decorate cupcakes all day. And I have at least a little competence. You’ve seen me kind of help you build things for the shop!”
