Hi! My name's Chloe, and I'm a GP9 diesel working for the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway on Vancouver Island! The shop workers thought it'd be neat to set me and the other engines on the E&N up with a Tumblr blog, so we can meet other railroaders and engines on the Internet! Feel free to drop us a line, and we'll answer as best we can! Happy rails! †Ask/RP/art/writing blog for my engine OCs. Takes place on a fictional version of Vancouver Island, Canada, in a fan-based offshoot of the Thomas and Friends universe. Check out the Locomotive Roster page for a list of characters! "no doubt, no problem, no matter what"
As of now, this blog is on a mostly permanent hiatus. I've lost interest in role-playing in this format, pretty much entirely. I apologize to those awaiting answers to asks, or hoping to see more story posts.
You can still find me and my art on dA @ http://esquimaltnanaimo.deviantart.com
Chloe: Sorry everybody, but Munâs been really busy lately. They were gonna make a Halloween picture of all of us, but they didnât have time to organize anything.
Jordan: Yeah, having to go in for medical checks and all that shit for being a conductor does that.

âUm⊠not to be a bother, but you left some grain cars up on the mainlineâŠâ
âOh, fuck, right. Wait, canât you get them?â
âIâm facing the wrong wayâŠâ
âThen go to the- oh, fuck it.â said Jordan, turning on his bell and backing up. He shot a glare at Chloe. âI swear to god, Chloe, youâre gonna tell me whatâs going on later,â he said, then mumbled to himself. âFucking 9-series, so goddamn emotionalâŠâ
Chloe looked down at the rails in front of herself, feeling very, very small⊠and very sleepy, she remembered; she hadnât slept right in days. She forced her eyes open just in time to see Abigailâs front coupler gently nudge her own. She flinched once again, trying to roll back, but her engine was shut off.
Abigail looked deeply concerned as the two friendsâ eyes met. âChloe,â she asked, backing away slightly to give the Geep some space. âWhatâs going on with youâŠ?â
Chloe blinked. âI donât know what youâre talking about,â she lied.
âAre you sure you donât knowâŠ?â asked Abigail, only becoming more concerned by that.
Chloe was silent, trying to think of a way to keep up her facade. With how tired she was, however, it was a losing battle, and she had to force her eyes open again.
Abigail broke the silence. âChloe⊠I want you to talk to me,â she said, assertively. âSomethingâs not right with you.â
âWhy did you tell Jordan?â asked Chloe suddenly, unable to think of anything else.
âBecause Iâm worried about you,â said the elder Montreal diesel. âJordan might seem more annoyed, but he is too. We all areâŠâ
Chloeâs engine sank even further.
âYou havenât been yourself for days,â continued Abigail after a moment. âYouâve been jumpy, and quiet, and⊠youâve looked really sad. Thatâs not youâŠâ
Chloe stared at the rails.
âChloeâŠ. Please. Tell me whatâs going on. Itâs not healthy to keep everything in like thisâŠâ
âIâm sorry I made you worry. Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry⊠I didnât want that. I never want thatâŠâ
âChloe-â
âI donât want to take anything from anybody. Not now, not ever. Not time, not worry, not concern. Everyone has their own things to worry about, donât they? Who am I to keep them from themselves?â
Abigail elected to just listen, idling as quietly as she could.
âI just⊠all of this happened way before the E&N bought me. Why canât I just forget? I should be able to forget⊠I want to forget! Like you and JordanâŠâ
âLike me and JordanâŠ?â asked Abigail, surprised. âIt doesnât just⊠work like that, Chloe,â she said. âAnd we havenât forgotten.â
âYou havenât?â
âOf course not⊠how could we? Itâs our past⊠Donât you ever wonder why Jordan is so aggressiveâŠ?â
ââŠnot reallyâŠ?â
âOh, Chloe,â said Abigail, with a gentle chuckle. âThat big diesel has more baggage than the Canadian.â
Chloe looked confused. She knew Jordan was a bit wonky, but she didnât know the extent of it.
âChloe, Jordan puts up a wall to keep others from looking in⊠but inside, heâs really very sensitive about himself,â continued the older Alco. âHe doesnât believe that he deserves to be⊠well, alive.â
Chloe looked sad. âGosh,â was all she could manage.
âAs for me⊠You know how worried I get about people working on my carbody, donât youâŠ?â
ââŠOf course⊠but I thought that was just from how sensitive your metal is.â
âItâs partly that, but⊠goodness, have I never told you about what happened in the Winnipeg shopâŠ?â
âOh⊠you have. Jeez⊠I thought you could talk about it because you were over it.â
âGoodness, no⊠It still haunts me, to this day.â
ââŠIâm sorry, Abbie,â said Chloe.
Abigail gave a gentle smile. âThereâs no need to apologize,â she said. âIâm working on itâŠâ
Chloe looked down.
âThat brings me back to what I said before⊠Chloe, both Jordan and myself are working on getting over our pasts⊠We talk about it often. You never have, have you?â
The blue EMD didnât answer.
âChloeâŠâ
âI didnât think it was worth the time, dwelling on stuff thatâs over and done withâŠâ
Abigail frowned. âWell, think of it this way⊠If itâs what youâre having nightmares about, I donât think itâs over and done with, now is it?â
Chloe was silent, but her expression spoke volumes.
ââŠChloe, I can tell youâre nervous about it.â asked Abigail.
Chloe sighed. âIâm not nervous, just⊠I donât want everyone to hear. I donât want them to worry about me.â
Abigail looked thoughtful. âWell⊠okay⊠If you and I were somewhere safe and quiet, would you feel more comfortable?â
Chloe quietly hummed in agreement.
âOkay⊠weâll go to the ferry slip this evening, after Jordan goes to sleep. Riley isnât here until tomorrow morning, and nobody will hear us.â
âOkayâŠâ
âFor now, though, please get some sleep,â said Abigail. âYouâve been keeping yourself awake for far too long.â
âAre you going to leaveâŠ?â
âDo you want me to stay?
âMhm⊠if thatâs alright?â
Abigail smiled her gentle smile. âOf course,â she said, backing onto the wye to turn around. Once she faced the right direction, she backed into the shop bay right next to her friend and shut her engine down.
Chloe smiled a bit, feeling much better that someone was staying with her. She couldnât really understand it, but it felt really nice that Abigail cared about her so much.
About twenty minutes later, Chloe had long since fallen asleep when Jordan noisily approached. He stopped short of the shop, looking at the two smaller engines inside already.
âWhat the fuck, Abi-â he began, before Abigail shot him an intense glare, gesturing at the sleeping Geep next to herself afterward.
âOh,â said Jordan simply, before heading back into the yard to finish up the dayâs work.
Later that night, after Jordan had fallen asleep and the staff had all gone home, Abigail gently roused Chloe and lead her to the ferry slip across the yard. The two engines quietly talked there, Abigail piling endless reassurance on her blue friend every step of the way, until she finally opened up about her life.
It was difficult, but with Abigail listening and consoling her, Chloe felt as if her engine had had years of built up gunk cleaned out of it.
The next day, Jordan was still fast asleep in the shop, when a familiar high-pitched five-chime horn jolted him awake.
"AAH!" he yelped. "Chloe, what the f- uh?"
Chloe smiled at him cheekily, her coupler a few feet from his own. "C'mon, lazy-frame, let's go! We've got a train to take!" she chimed, before giggling and rolling away into the yard.
Incredulous, Jordan turned to Abigail, who had just woken up herself and was preparing to start up. "What the hell happened to her?" he asked.
The old ALCo turned and gave him a smile. "She just needed some patience," she said, before her engine clattered to life and she rolled out after her friend.
