after the huge amazing response I got from my ace!Jiang Cheng comic - all of the ace people saying how amazing it felt to be acknowledged, and all of the people who came to me saying that they hadn’t realised they were ace until they read the comic - I decided I wanted to make something for ace awareness week. it’s not quite as pretty or feelsy as the other comic, but there are so many people even within the LGBT+ community who just… genuinely do not understand asexuality, I figured even something basic would help :)

I swear this show is the best show ever made. The attention to detail still never ceases to amaze me. I find new things each time I re-watch it.

Season 1, episode 16, “The Deserter”: When Aang first meets Jeong Jeong, the firebending master refuses to see him because he’s not ready yet. How did Jeong Jeong know that Aang wasn’t ready to learn fire-bending? Jeong Jeong says that he knew by the way Aang walked… which got me thinking, does Aang’s stance and gait change from season 1 to season 3 as he masters various elements?

IT DOES.

Take a look at the following from season 1 episode 2.

Aang’s steps are tiny, uncertain. He takes a lot of them. He moves unnecessarily, almost like he’s hopping… twinkletoes. It’s obvious he ONLY knows air-bending here, and his tiny, uncertain steps tell of that.

Compare this to a similar scene in season 3, also episode 2.

Pretty much the same exact scene here, but there’s a huge difference in Aang’s gait. His steps are wider. They flow. There aren’t any hesitation twitches like before. This is someone who knows waterbending and earthbending. You can see the way waterbending influences how his body moves and earthbending influences the way he walks. This is what Jeong Jeong meant when he said that Aang needed to learn waterbending and earthbending before learning firebending.

I also looked at various shorter clips of Aang running, walking, etc in season 1 vs season 3. There’s definitely changes in the way he walks: in season 1, Aang is mostly on his heel or his toes, but in season 3, he has a more balanced way of motion (he steps with his entire foot).
