one of the best parts of making up increasingly wild and specific aus with a friend is sending them posts like "this is sooo blorbo in torture chamber au number 15" and they reply back like "YESSS btw have i told you about my latest idea for how to torture them even more" and you get to enjoy a little snack and kick your feet with glee
Do you have any recs for learning about yautja lore? Ive been trying to lean into my xeno and yautja hyperfixation more but can't find any good resources aside from fandom wikis
I must warn my experience of learning about yautja is very chaotic, so my suggestions could be a bit all over the place ahah. I'm talking based on my experience mainly.
For Yautja I've found very good the last two movies by Dan Trachtenberg, Predator Badlands and Predator: Killer of Killers, to have a better idea on how yautja clans can work.
I recommend a lot the comics, very helpful to learn about Yautja.
One im still on the early pages but i find cool is Predator: Day of the Hunter.
Some that are on my reading list are also
-Predator: Bad Blood
-Aliens vs. Predator: Deadliest Of The Species (there's one of my fav female yautja rendition, Big Mama, so I want to read more in depth about that)
-Aliens vs. Predator: War, I find the character Machiko Noguchi interesting, and comics give lots of infos regarding yautja.
I'm not able to play the games but I see youtube channels or people here on tumblr that talk about it and they have interesting lore infos (Example, regarding the abilities of Yautja blood, it was very handy learning about Predator: Concrete Jungle)
I use the wikis as well, since through and at the end of the page there are cited the original medias from which the information was taken, so it helps me redirect to specific comics
The thing is with yautja lore, at least for how I perceive it, it can be tricky. Some things are canon in one comic and in another they aren't. (one I can think of is how the universe portray female yautja: there can be very different interpretations of these ladies through comics or games)
Because of this, in several years of yautja fixation,I find that Predator leaves lots of freedom to make your own ocs and develop also subspecies of yautja and various clan. So there are not limits to creativity, since each yautja comes in all shapes and colors. Which I really like.
Plus, there is not exactly a specific lore. Each story follows a different hunter every time. It mostly focuses on the Yautja hunting abilities, personality, and traditions around the hunt. So, I try to throw everything in a cauldron and figure out what can work best for my stories.
Unfortunately, for the Xenomorph lore, I still lack a looot of knowledge, and I mainly go with Alien movies, some that I still need to watch as well, and wikis. I'm veeeery behind on all comics regarding Alien "":).
One I'm a bit more familiar with is the Alien/Predator: Fire and Stone saga and Alien vs Predator movies.
I love you complex puppets requiring multiple puppeteers. I love you giant spaceship set. I love you zero gravity wiring rig that was apparently hellish to be hooked up to. I love you rotating lighting apparatus that emulates the changing lighting of the centrifuge portion of the ship. I love you chicken wire and fairy lights petrova line shot. I love you practical effects enhanced WHEN NECESSARY by CGI. I love you project hail mary.
Still at the fucking restaurant and by restaurant I mean Yáo Li-Jie going into the coma and dying, still believing that his crew was there voluntarily. By restaurant I mean Olesya Ilyukhina believing she will get to teach her friend EVA stuff, getting put under thinking she will see Tau Ceti and be there to support the man who chose to sacrifice his life in less than three hours. By restaurant I mean Yáo thinking he will get to witness the discovery of their solution with his friends by his side. By restaurant I mean Grace waking up with two bodies next to him, terrified, light years away from home, and still deciding to give them proper funerals because he knew, instinctively, that he used to love those people and that they deserved better than rotting away on a spaceship denying them proper burial at home.
Simon had a bad reaction when pulled out of the submarine, since he was still in a high stressed state and the first thing he saw was a faceless, non human being. Once he healed enough to speak and figured what happened, he couldn't stop apologizing to Adrian.
Adrian was never mad at him for that of course, they gladly reassure Simon every time he needs and had to force Simon to rest at times, since the human wanted to help around their ship to make up for it.
Adrian petting Simon's head is a habit that they got from Rocky doing the same to Grace. So they believe this is how humans comfort each other (Don't worry, Simon doesn't mind, this man is staarving for kind physical contact)
I'm still conflicted if giving Simon a mutated tail or not, or if it's something it will show with progressive stages of mutation, i'll see
Fyi, when i use the "<< >>" and the english is not as smooth, it means they are using a translator. When the english is more fluent (at the best of my non english speaker abilities) it means they are speaking only in eridian.
