That is simply being capable of understanding the human body and brain, rather than speaking their language. I never spoke a word with any of my opponents. “I don’t see why people believe that just being in tune with languages means that you’re unable to fight.” She sighed, her eyes narrowing before lifting her chin and staring the male right in the eye. “I’ve brought down more enemies than most, from knowing their languages you know what angle to get them, you know their weaknesses, you’re able to defeat them easier.” She raised an eyebrow toward him.

“Oh, no, I believe we had a misunderstanding,” she replied calmly, unfazed by the sudden predatory look on the woman’s face. “It would be foolish to undermine the need for knowing multiple languages in international espionage. What I was simply trying to say is that every Language Operative should be taught to fight, in case they get thrown into the field. We have recruits who don’t even know how to fire a gun.”

Folding her hands across the table, Esther schooled herself into a neutral expression when looking at the woman in front of her. “And pray tell me, why would you make the assumption that I’m not experienced in combat?” She questioned innocently, it wasn’t this first time that someone believed that she didn’t know how to handle a gun and she always did want to know as to why people thought this about her. “I was one of the top in training when it came to it, but I preferred languages, knowledge in the world of espionage is the most valuable tool.”

Having gone into the cafeteria for her daily dose of caffeine, Esther had been sat in an quieter area of the large room with a book out, casually making notes in the margins. It were days like this that she enjoyed just listening the the chatter of the students who were speaking of such a wide range that she was able to tune into any conversation and hear something new each time. Lifting her head toward a student down at the end of the table, Esther cocked her head and closed the book in front of her now that her attention had been swayed.”And would you do the same if this civillian was related to you, cadet? A friend perhaps? Or even a child?”

It was as if he were instantly aware of her determination to find what he might give her in return. Luckily, he had a skill that very few could deny, “I’m a doctor. To have me in your debt is no small thing. Perhaps, someday, I might save your life.”

“Hm, looks as though I’ll have to hold you to that, won’t I?” She spoke, her eyes travelling down his figure while a smile graced her lips. There may just be a day where she would need to call in a debt like this one, so she could hardly turn down the offer he held in front of her.

“I thought so, too, but no matter how determined I feel, I can’t seem to wrap my head around it.” He fell silent when the woman spewed some random language at him–a language he could only assume was Russian, “Does that mean that you could teach me? I’m no cadet, it would do no credit to your reputation, but I am interested in learning.”

“It would depend in what you could offer in return.” She replied, her eyes scanning his, she was here to teach cadets those who would be heading to the field without any experience, not those who weren’t, and she never did anything for free.

“It’s not that they don’t concern me, it’s that I don’t have the mind to learn them.” He would have been happy to take on several languages, but despite his efforts, he never did seem to grasp it, “I’d love to learn Russian.” Though, he knew that finding a tutor for that particular language might prove difficult.

“Languages are important to learn, its the dedication to learning it which is the difference to picking them up or not” She spoke, flicking her hair out of her face and giving him a smirk when hearing what language really did interest him. “Oy? Vy khoteli by izuchat' russkiy yazyk?” She spoke, her voice switching from her Irish accent and raising another eyebrow.

“So, you think that languages aren’t good enough do you?” Esther spoke, her eyebrow arching and her lips pursed into an unamused frown. “Languages keep you in tune with the enemy, you understand them and you understand their moves and their motives.” Her voice became ice cold and her eyes narrowed even further.
