Honestly, what I really wish is a multiplayer only roleplay focused game which is mainstream, similar to Space Station 13, but the social deduction aspects being taken out. I know, I know, many people who prefer hurling slurs and throwing controllers and keyboards because they're sore losers would call it "FrIeNdSlOp", but there's a beauty in SS13, like having a laugh because of you accidentally blowing up something. The reason why I would want the social deduction aspects to be gone is because I feel like that would hamper the game's quality. Instead I would prefer if it would be incredibly in depth. Yeah, there's the complaint that then some people wouldn't be able to resist from making similarly in depth contraptions, as if they can't comprehend that roleplaying as a scientist who's incredibly invested in doing whatever bullshit they set in their mind to is somehow off the table.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but post COVID fandoms feel... Tamer in a sense. Like yeah, I never really was invovled with one particularly, but even I remember shit like Tumblr harassing some 12 years old girl because she dared to draw a Steven's Universe character, specifically Steven's mother if memory serves, a bit thinner than she was depicted in the show near suicide, or someone in an Undertale convention baking deadly cupcakes (can't remember if they were poisoned or hid razor blades in them, but I remember that someone tried to kill someone with tampered cupcakes over fanart). And while yeah, they're not toxic free, I don't recall hearing shit like "Oh yeah. Someone straight up tried to kill Gege because he dared to make their special litle UwU boyo dead." Like at worst, the shit I hear is "This fanbase is mad butthurt" or "That fanbase is sending death threats to the author over minor shit", and not "This fanbase tried to bully a kid into committing suicide because of they dared to depict a character slightly different" or "That fanbase tries to straight up kill each other".

And on a related note: can we call toxic fans as internet/social media addicts? Because I feel like if your reaction to your favourite story goes to a path you don't like is to send death threats, you're divorced from reality, because a mentally stable person would just go online and go "Yeah, I'm dissaopinted" and not "REEEE, LET'S HARASS THE AUTHOR BECAUSE MY BLORBO DIDN'T END UP IN A STEAMY HOT ABUSIVE HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP, REEEEE"

Honestly, I believe that one reason why fandoms became so toxic is because there's not enough safeguards to keep bad eggs out. No, not gatekeeping, like "YOU'RE NOT A REAL MOTHERFUCKING FAN UNLESS YOU CAN TELL ME THE ENTIRE BIOGRAPHY OF EACH AND EVERY SINGLE VOICE ACTOR IN YOUR FAVOURITE [INSERT MEDIA HERE]!!!" but more like "You're not a real fan unless you actually interacted with the story through more means than just memes, and can not only behave like a normal ass person, but also won't have a meltdown and act like anyone invovled with your story has tortured your beloved pet to death because they have made the story to go to a way you don't like. No, not even if it's bigoted." And before anyone wants to twist my words into "You shall not complain about bad stuff, ever!!!!", I merely mean stuff like "This all sucks and I believe the author should be hanged with his own guts" rather than just "I believe that the author has made some mistakes" or "Great... The author has ruined both the story and his reputation by depicting a black character as a dumb, mumbling idiot whose only asperation is to become some gangster, and to top it all off, borderline confirmed in universe that it's because of the character's skin colour rather than any enviromental reason like racism." Also, yes. I believe that "It doesn't matter how you consume the media" has done some damage too to how fandoms are formed. Obviously, I think if you can't play a game either because of physical limitations (lacking the hardware required to play, it's region locked) or because of the genre like it being a notoriously difficult game, or even a gacha, and you struggle with gambling addiction, that's accepteable. I genuinely meant stuff like JJBA, where the Araki forgot stuff is like "JoSuKe WaS sUpPoSeD tO sAvE hImSeLf" while not only ignoring minor stuff like "Oh yeah, the stranger was a grade below Josuke in the main story" or darker stuff like "It was a blizzard, and the stranger was already injured, so him not being found means he more than likely died"

I feel like I'll get the entirerity of the gaming base want me dead, but I'll say it anyway: instead of friendslop, we should use soulsslop. Because even the worst friendslop offers you a bit of fun with your friends, but soulsslop just assumes that "Hard combat = fun" then proceeds to make you out of incredibly thin and wet tissue paper, and not only make the enemies hit hard, you also have to parry/dodge frame perfect otherwise they'll oneshot you. Not to mention that they also developed an incredibly toxic and exclusive fandom, which thinks that any and all accessibility is terrible, and also you shouldn't be able to pause the game, because why should you have the convinience of just pausing your game when you receive an unexpected phonecall, and you're not some "EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWW ME HATE TALKING TO PHONE!!!!!!!" person, who doesn't get that talking is still a hell lot quicker that writing, or not needing to adhere to a ridiculous schedule because you're unforunate enough to get diabetes.

One of the funniest thing I've noticed is that people seem to think that toxic fandoms only can form around lighter, softer media like The Digital Amazing Circus, Undertale (yes, there's some darker elements, but you need to go out of your way to find them), Steven Universe and My Hero Academia. And while yeah, they definitively have/had toxic fanbases, there's more types of toxic fanbases ya'll don't really pay attention to. Here's my types - The overly sensitive toxic fans that are in a perpetual state of meltdown, and also has an obsession for sending death threats because someone did something they didn't like. Examples: See above - The overly memey sensitive fans that highjacked the "curtains are just blue" phrase to justify why they should treat the series they're a fan of as peak slapstick comedy, and also seem to lack basic media comprehension (probably because they're on TickTock or YouTube shorts while a non-memeable scene is happening). Examples: Yakuza/Like A Dragon, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, JJK - The other overly sensitive toxic fans. Main difference between them and the first one is that they like to think they're more mature and mentally healthy because they're fans of darker stuff. Examples: Breaking Bad, Warhammer 40K, Beserk

Might be a really unpopular opinion, but I don't think it's a worthy trade off to effectively force unforunate people to stay in the closet because otherwise they might be harassed by family members at best or put to death at worst because some child wanted to look at porn. You might think only out of touch middle aged 'Murican moms want it, but no. I've met with peers who think this is a great idea, to keep children out of adult only places. Like "HUH?????? ARE YOU SO PARANOID OF ACCIDENTALLY ERPING WITH A KID THAT YOU GLADFULLY SUPPORT ANY AND ALL LEGISTATION THAT ERODES OUR ONLINE ANONYMITY???????????". Sure, I do get wanting to to keep children out of adult places, but not at the price of keeping LGBTQ+ people out too. Why is it somehow more socially accepteable than just creating a campaign to make children learn basic internet safety?
