I considered sheâd be an earth bender because of her grounding presence but then I thought water would suit her because sheâs fluid and adaptable. Then the obvious stared me in the face. Healing abilities.
kingo: earth bender
Let me tell you, I very nearly put air. He has the famous air nomad sense of humor and playfulness, however I donât think you could say compassion is one of his noticeable qualities thatâs very obvious in Aang. And the scene that really separates him from air, in my opinion, is on the plane when he tells Sprite that he grew tired of wandering around. Going from place to place. Air nomads are, quite literally, nomadic and long for freedom. Kingo, instead, displays more of a very âfeet on the groundâ type personality even if he indulges himself in fantastical fantasies in the form of movies. When it comes down to it, heâs able to get serious and heâs shown to be stubborn while standing up for his beliefs and refusing to budge.
sprite: water bender
I first thought fire bender because of her temper but itâs not like non-fire benders canât have tempers. I settled for water because I feel sheâs sneaky and would just wait for the right time to strike and use her water offensively. Though, I think one could make a good argument for air, I feel water suited her more.
ikaris: fire bender
Not to build upon the âfire benders = badâ agenda at all but I just think this fits him. Aside from the fact that he can shoot lasers that result in fire out of his eyes, I think Ikaris is a good mix of impulsive (killing Ajak after only taking one moment to consider the consequences and inadvertently getting Gilgamesh killed as well) and cunning (tricking the eternals for the majority of the movie in order to distract them) to be a fire bender. But more specifically, I see him as a fire bender who would be able to bend lightning despite the level of difficulty and discipline that takes. At least, until present day and he has to go against his family.
phastos: water bender
I considered air for him as well but I think the combination of community, creativity, and discipline thatâs associated with the water tribe is more up his alley. He uses his creativity to turn this defensive element offensive.
thena: fire bender
I really had a hard time picking between fire and earth. To be frank, I genuinely think I have the loosest grip on her personality than the rest. Including Ajak. However, I think sheâd be more like Azula in her skill set. Sheâs precise, sheâs quick, sheâs strategic. Sheâs not impulsive but in the heat of battle she can be ruthless. Sheâs exacting. However, she also has a soft heart that gets brought out around Gilgamesh, whoâromantic or platonicâprovides a compassionate, unconditional, and grounding presence for her. Also, her and Azula both losing their minds is something to take note of.
gilgamesh: earth bender
I went with earth for Gilgamesh for the same reason I considered it for Ajak. Gilgamesh is very much an immovable object. Heâs steady and constant and grounding for everyone, not just Thena. Heâs strong and dependable and confident in his beliefs without being stubborn.
sersi: earth bender (maybe earth bending avatar)
Like Gilgamesh, Sersi is a grounding presence. Sheâs responsible and reliable and always there when you need her. Moreover though, I relate her powers in the film a lot with this element. Her turning rocks in water and her turning dirt into water to help with farming. If I were to pick an avatar for the group, I think it would be her but she would have been born into the Earth Kingdom and thus learned and mastered that element first.
makkari: air bender
I went with air bender for Makkari because air benders can canonically run really fast. I think the show said as fast as âthe windâ or something, Iâm not sure. But also because she has this sort of mischief yet wisdom about her that just screams âplayful air benderâ to me. And even though she always went back to the Domo, she very clearly traveled the entire world.
druig: fire bender
I went with fire bender for a very specific reason. In canon, Druig is constantly told not to use his power (by Ajak because they canât interfere but by others because controlling people isnât really right). His âgiftâ is very dangerous in the wrong hands and capable of so much destruction if used wrongly or selfishly. In the show, fire is presented in much the same way. It can very easily be taken out of control. For the majority of the show itâs even seen by many to be inherently bad. Yet Druig wants to use his powers for the greater good in spite of this. So, hence fire bender.
druig watches through the windows of the pub as sersi smiles at a man with dark curly hair. the man in question rests a hand on her hip as he leans forward to kiss her cheek before wandering off somewhere further inside the building.
he hasnât even gotten a full read on him before he feels an elbow at his bicep and turns to find makkari smiling at him.
she arches an eyebrow and gestures to the pub. what you do think so far?
âi think heâs still our target,â druig replies and pulls his hands out of his pocket to sign. and i know sersiâs undercover but she seemed very fond of him just now.
leave her be, makkari shakes her head and offers him a knowing smirk. heâs not for sure guilty.
and heâs not for sure innocent either.
his partner gives him a flat look. druig.
look, i justâhe signs and runs his hands through his hair, dragging his eyes away from his shoes to look makkari in the eye.
she always did have a kind face. an open expression. mischievous, playful eyes. not patient in the least but always allowing him to take his time. it always made breathing come a bit easier to him and lessened the weight in his chest. she smiles at him now, seemingly guessing where his words are going before he can even pick them out. so she steps closer, her hands wrapping fluidly around his waist.
druig sighs and returns her gesture. he makes sure to speak slowly enough for her to catch it. âi just donât want her to get hurt again.â
instead of signing, she keeps her arms around him and nods, leaning up to press her forehead to his. itâs a message all itâs own. their own.
âi know,â he says though she canât catch it. âi know.â
makkari pulls back and offers him a much brighter smile. enough wasting time, she grins and grabs his hand with the one sheâs not using to sign. itâs time for our double date.
remind me again why iâm here?
because itâs your job and you just love spending time with me. makkari throws a smile over her shoulder as she pushes the door open.
druig smirks and signs back a lazy, must be.
sersi descends on them immediately, mostly signing frantically to makkari, and druig takes this time to scan their area thoroughly. he knows sersi must have already having received the same training he did, but druig is soundly of the mind that one could never be too sure where safety is involved.
âslow down, sersi,â druig drawls when heâs finished, giving makkariâs hand in his a casual squeeze. âwe havenât even met the guy yet.â
but the woman is inconsolable. her brows are pinched together in worry and her lips pull into a pronounced frown. âi really do have the worst dating history, donât i?â she says, signing the question to makkari. âiâm starting to think iâm just a poor judge of character.â
makkari shakes her head earnestly. donât blame yourself for what ikaris did. none of us could have predicted that.
well, i donât think falling for the guy who may or may not have a hand in international armed weapons dealings is much better. do you?
makkari and druig share a sympathetic look but are unable to object before the man of the hour shows up. daneâs arms wrap around sersi and her posture instantly relaxes. he smiles at her and without thinking, she smiles back. druig feels makkari squeeze his hand again and inch closer to his side. he doesnât even attempt to hide his pleased smirk.
âitâs so nice to meet you,â dane greets them, extending his hand for them both to shake. then he surprises them by signing their names. druig and makkari, right?
makkari blinks in shock but breaks out into a satisfied smile. she nods and signs back, yes, thatâs right. i didnât know you could sign.
âhe canât,â sersi explains and signs. âheâs been trying to learn a little but heâs only just started.â
âwell, i didnât want to be a total ass when i met you guys. that doesnât exactly make for a great first impression.â
makkari signs quickly and druig watches her hands to translate. âthanks, dane. thatâs actually pretty nice of you. i can already tell weâre going to get along.â
the man smiles, pleased with himself. âi hope so,â he says and druig signs his words to makkari. âany friend of sersi is a friend of mine. besides, itâd be a rather horrid double date if we didnât.â
sersi nudges dane playfully and tells him primly, âsee? i told you i had couple friends for us to hang out with.â
âyou did.â
druig rolls his eyes but he canât get rid of his smile as he signs to makkari, we donât look this grossly affectionate, do we?
makkari laughs. absolutely not, weâre much cooler.
agreed.
âyou guys look very happy together.â dane interrupts them with a knowing gleam in his eye. he looks to sersi who smiles back before remembering herself and translating for him.
the moment passes comfortably and dane shows them all to the table he got. druig and makkari watch all night as sersi falls even harder for their target. but even druig, with all his cynicism, can see that dane returns it all tenfold.
if dane is guilty, then heâs just as screwed as she is.
the couples leave the pub separately after a quick recap while dane uses the bathroom. makkariâs hand slips back into his as if it had always been there. he smiles and pulls her close, his arm wrapping around her. she places an innocent kiss to the warm skin of his jaw and looks out into the glowing night sky.
i know heâs our target and hasnât been proven innocent, makkari signs after a few minutes, a content look about her face. but i like the way he makes sersi happy.
me too. druig agrees.
iâm not naive enough to care for him already, but at least for sersiâs sake i hope heâs the man he says he is.
druig nods and kisses her temple.
she pulls apart from him completely so that she can face him, her arms snaking up his body to wrap around his shoulders. his fall habitually to her waist.

druig smiles, leans down to steal a kiss from her lips.

when makkari and phastos walked onto the crime scene, druigâs attention had strayed from the victimâs body. instead, he stood over by the window, eyeing the bullets lodged haphazardly in the drywall with his hands clasped behind his back. with his back to them, he hadnât heard the way she snuck up on him.
a quick tap to his right shoulder had him turning to his left and makkari grinned in spite of her failed joke attempt.

he smirked, the corner of his mouth curling upward.

makkari tilted her head in acknowledgment. true. she nods at wall heâd been looking at. weird finding bullets in the wall and not the dead body, no?
thatâs what i was thinking, he says as he signs. i suppose we could just chalk it up to the culprit being a bad shot but these casings donât match the gun next to the victim.
âiâm happy you guys are brainstorming over there,â phastos calls out from over by the victim, his gloves on and forensic equipment out. druig looks over to him and makkari follows his gaze to do the same. âbut we do have a job to do, makkari. in case you forgot.â
makkari rolls her eyes as his signs catch up to his words and walks over to her partner. druig follows quietly even as the hardwood floor creaks under the weight of his boots.
phastosâ partner easily falls into her role, helping him collect evidence around the house as he examines the body. druig waits patiently for his initial thoughts.
the morning sun, so clear and golden, shines on the body on the floor. itâs an odd scene for sure, such beauty and such tragedy bleeding together as his blood spills and stains the floor. his skin is so pale it nearly reflects the sunlight streaming in through the open window.
phastos doesnât speak until heâs finished. druig waits.
âcasings in the wall, a gun on the floor and bullet wounds in his head,â phastos frowns in confusion as he kneels before the scene. âyet a bloody knife and a stab wound in his abdomen. youâve certainly got yourself a game of clue here, druig.â
âtell me about it.â
makkari shows back up beside phastos, her findings collected and packed away. she sighs as she looks at the victimâs body. do you know who he is?
he shakes his head. not yet. no wallet or identification on him. apparently, this isnât even his house.
all three of them nod in understanding and phastos sets about putting his equipment away as makkari sidles up to druig. her dark eyes peer into his, soft and warm bathed in golden sunlight. druig suddenly finds himself to be a morning person.
this was called in pretty early, she sighs and nudges him gently. did you eat? or get a coffee at least?
if i said yes would you be proud of me?
druig, makkari frowns. you need to take care of yourself.
yes, i know, he drawls slowly as he signs like heâs done this song and dance before. he very much has. god forbid anyone but me actually solves a crime in this fucking city.
no, makkari shakes her head. one of her hands wrap delicately around his wrist as her other stays up to sign but her eyes are insistent enough. because you deserve it. i donât like seeing you tired and fatigued and wearing yourself too thin.
druig blinks at her in slight surprise and makkariâs cheeks redden as she realizes what sheâs said. itâs not often they cross the boundaries of casual flirtation so it always shocks him when one of them do.
she shrugs and ignores the way he smirks at her blush. how about lunch? are you free?

she smiles at him and he finds his smirk turns genuine, just a little bit. but her eyes sparkle in the light, the rest of her expression painted playful.
they stare at each other. basking in the sunlight hitting their faces just right. wondering who will look away first.
phastos groans a few feet away and the moment is ruined.
druig scoffs in frustration as his eyes slide to the floor before looking impatiently at phastos. makkari looks in the same direction and her face falls at his exasperated expression.
he looks at the two of them like a mother would her misbehaving children.
for all the jokes about how speedy and fast she can be, it appears makkari has something against showing up to important business events on time.
but this occasion in particular was special to her. she had been working with âthe better world foundationâ and she thinks they can actually start making a difference. today was supposed to be their projectâs fundraiser. her and the tbw ceo, druig, had arranged and set up the entire event themselves.
and she couldnât even show up on time.
perhaps it also helped that he was unbelievably attractive and somehow shared her sense of humor and adventure. but he was also justâŠso genuine. and most of his good deeds seem to go relatively unnoticed. but not by her.
which, again, is how she ended up slipping into the fundraiser fifteen minutes late. itâs possible she might have taken a bit too long doing her hair and makeup just right, taking her time to pick out the perfect necklace to go with her red dress. trying on four different pairs of shoes. so she wanted to look nice for him, sue her.
sheâs able to get away with her fashionably late entrance, as kingo refers to it, until she walks up to druig.
and he looks hot because of course he does. a full black suit that compliments his dark hair and pale complexion. it also definitely frames his arms just right. have they always been that muscular?
he smirks at her, but itâs softer around the edges than normal. his eyes take her in appreciatively. the beautiful makkari, he signs with a quirked eyebrow. youâre late.
she frowns apologetically and accepts a glass of champagne from the nearby waiter. she doesnât drink it yet but she uses her other hand to reply back, sorry, druig. traffic was a bitch. forgive me?
he shrugs easily enough and shakes his head at the waiter before dismissing him. nothing to forgive, you couldnât help it. iâm just glad people will finally stop asking after you. iâm beginning to think theyâre here for you more than me.
makkari looks around at all the lingering looks heâs getting and decides that is definitely not the case. well, perhaps itâs because of your bedside manner.
you love my bedside manner. he teases back.
i do, she confirms with a chuckle. but not everyone will. though, i think you might be a bit more popular than you think.
druig smirks and shrugs noncommittally. itâs the suit.
she gives him a once over and returns his smirk. it does look dashing on you.
why, thank you, makkari, druig preens and steps slightly closer. all the other figures in the room blur into the backdrop as his eyes, beautiful and blue, slide down to her lips. i had to impress you, somehow.
makkari blinks and leans forwardâto do what sheâs not sure yetâbut the moment is interrupted by a hand clapping druig on the shoulder.
they look behind him to see kingo, one of their investors, smiling at them both with barely contained excitement. under normal circumstances, makkari wouldnât be able to stop a smile from taking over her. kingo always has such an infectious energy about him.
she just wished he couldâve read the room this time. given them a minute.
âitâs time for your speech, druig,â he says before signing the same to makkari. âtheyâre waiting for you on the podium.â
druig sighs and sends her a regretful look before nodding at kingo and excusing himself. kingo settles beside her as they watch him stride up to the podium, his gait precise and casual in a way only he can manage. all eyes go to him as he stands before the podium. a translator joins him and he begins his speech with a smirk.
admittedly, makkari doesnât catch all of it. too preoccupied looking at him to follow the translator. she smiles brightly as she watches him and apparently it doesnât go unnoticed.
kingo nudges her with a dramatic frown. oh no, he signs with a shake of his head. please donât tell me youâre actually into him.
makkari rolls her eyes. i donât wanna hear it, kingo. iâm not gonna take dating advice from someone who blows through relationships like netflix shows.

yes, i do, makkari admits haughtily as kingo puts on a show of sulking. and not that i have to explain myself to you, but druig is so much more than you give him credit for.

they both look back to druig. proud and proper and looking larger than life up there.

at this point, youâd think heâd know better than to go into a dark, run down building alone. and he does. but he is also human which means he is very, very hungry.
itâs been little more than three weeks since this end-of-the-world mess and the air is already starting to smell like rotting flesh. druigâs hands rest on the shotgun on his back and almost laughs at himself. never did he ever think that heâd have a gun. but when food is hard to come by and you basically look like a walking meal to half the population, you gotta learn to be prepared.
he picked this gun off of a body. he didnât even know their name. couldnât be bothered to either. not when it has suddenly become a kill or be killed world.
druig sighs and looks up at the creaking sign of the grocery store.
heâs not sure what heâll find hereâif anything at allâbut in a small town like this, surely it canât have been completely cleaned out just yet. running low on his own supply as it is, itâs really the only chance heâs got.
and so druig takes the plunge into the dimly lit store. the hairs on his arm stand immediately on edge. like stepping into a dark, dusty, room and waiting for a booby trap. for the other shoe to drop. he keeps his hands on his gun as his eyes take in as much of his surroundings as he can. he listens intently but picks up on nothing. no groaning, no movement, no screams for help or mercy.
hesitantly, he begins setting his sights on any and every non-perishable he can. he throws things haphazardly into his backpack as he goes along.
in his rush, he failed to notice a daunting figure standing in what looks to be some sort of back office.
upon moving in closer, he recognizes the silhouette to be that of a woman. short by the looks of it though who is he to talk. he watches her closely, unable to discern if this woman is quite herself. he watches her shadow move about the room as though tidying it or sorting it, but her head snaps in the direction behind her. she picks up something that looks to be a knife before charging where druigâs eyes canât follow.
for a moment, druig isnât sure what to make of this. he considers following her, maybe offering help, but heâs already run into a few unsavory characters. itâs every man for himself now and if she hasnât seen him yet thenâŠ
just as this thought crosses his mind, a loud bang sounds from the room. in spite of his better judgement, his feet move of their own accord.
he bursts into the room as quickly as heâs able. for a moment itâs hard to see, all the lights in the room having been broken or knocked out. then he hears it again, the sounds of a struggle. druig readies his gun and follows the noise.
there. the woman. underneath a walking corpse.
he shoots without really thinking about it. itâs not a perfect shot but the bullet lands somewhere in the creatureâs skull and immediately it slumps on top of her.
it takes a few moments for her to move, shoving the thing off of her. she looks up at him with wild eyes, her chest still heaving.
shit, he thinks. sheâs gorgeous.
the woman rubs at her neck, seemingly checking for any bites but druig can spot none from his view. her coiled hair spills a little out of her red bandana and looking at her bare arms, druig canât help but think sheâd be wise to invest in something with sleeves.
her dark eyes find his again.
she feels around for something in her pocket before looking behind her and bending down to grab a tiny notebook and pen. it is only then that he sees how many other walkers (as heâs deemed them) lie dead on the floor.
his lips dip into a puzzled frown as she scribbles something down in it and shows it to him.
âthank youâ
he nods in understanding and asks, âwhy the notepad?â
as soon as he opens his mouth she writes something else. âiâm deaf.â
druig pauses as he comes down from the adrenaline of earlier. he raises his hands to sign, you know asl right?
the woman blinks in surprise and nods after a short moment. i do, she signs back. i just didnât expect a lot of others would.
druig shrugs with a small smile. iâm a translator. or, i was a translator. i studied sign language in school.
the smile she gives him this time is wider. iâm makkari. she signs out the letters of her name before showing him her name sign.
druig. he does the same. itâs nice to meet you. beautiful, beautiful, makkari.
she snorts in amusement before gesturing back out to the store. you come here for food? he nods and she shrugs, gathering her knife and a bag of her own he didnât notice before. mind if i join you?
he thinks he smiles genuinely for the first time since this whole mess started.
druig thinks thatâs a bit dramatic for a quidditch game but athletes are always so competitive, arenât they?
heâs sitting next to kingo with ikaris on the keeperâs other side. both of them are dressed snuggly in their quidditch jumpers, making evil eyes at the ravenclaw team. druig rolls his own and takes a bite of his bagel before his attention is stolen by a figure so radiant.
good morning, losers, makkari signs as she sits down across from them daringly. the grin on her face conflicts with her fighting words but sheâs always been good at that. ready to get pummeled today?
you wish, kingo signs with a snort and ikaris reaffirms this with a, face it, makkari. youâre no match for the likes of both of us.
âi donât know,â druig says as he signs too. âyou two seem pretty intimidated.â
his housemates both send him intense glares but he just laughs to himself as he grabs an apple from the table. makkariâs eyes jump to him curiously but with a confident smirk that has him smirking back. she tips her chin up in a challenge and he copies her, earning himself another smile.
her eyes squint at him in amusement before their moment is cut off.
âdruig!!â kingo chastises in exasperation, waving his hands in front of him. in his bafflement, he forgets to sign. âi know you donât like most of us, but do not flirt with the enemy! i know youâre only doing it to be mean.â
makkari snickers as she seems to catch kingoâs words, her eyes zeroed in on his lips and ikaris nods his agreement.
âkingoâs right, druig. have some house loyalty.â
kingoâs not right, druig replies with a scoff that makes the beautiful makkari laugh. heâs never right. you just want me to be wrong.
predictably, ikaris rolls his eyes. ânow youâre just being immature.â
makkari shrugs confidently and rises to her feet. she seems pleased with the interaction despite the little it actually did. nice talkinâ to ya, boys. iâll see you on the pitch.
all three sets of eyes follow her as she strides away, ridiculously happy and light on her feet. she looks back at them with a wink as she exits the hall and kingo and ikaris share a scowl.
âyou suck, druig.â kingo bemoans and druig waves the comment away as light-heartedly as it was given.
âexcuse me for having eyes and half a brain,â he says and gathers his own things to depart. âiâll see you two later. i got more things to do.â
ikaris calls after him as he walks away. âwe better see you in the crowd wearing your red and gold!â
druig makes it all the way to the entrance of the clock tower courtyard before he feels a small pair of hands pull him into a private alcove. he lets his body be squeezed into the small space, already smiling down at his pursuer.
makkari wastes no time in pulling him down into a kiss. druigâs hands fall habitually to her waist as makkariâs smile pulls their lips apart.
they stay close as druig signs, well, that was a brilliant good morning, beautiful. shall i get used to this treatment?
makkari grins and nods. yep. i plan to kiss you good morning every day now. we waited far too long.
youâre right. we were foolish, druig laughs lightly and gives her cheek another peck. we should absolutely learn from our mistakes.
he steals another kiss to her lips and she allows him to borrow this time before pulling back.
yâknow, iâm starting to grow more and more concerned that those two havenât figured us out yet.
druig nods with a wry quirk of his eyebrow. they were never the smartest, anyway. thatâs why you like me. iâm more of a thinker than a fighter.
makkari swings their clasped hands together while she uses her other to sign. thatâs right. though i love this little game, i gotta say that it will be disappointing to not see you in the stands today wearing my blue and bronze.

she wacks his shoulder playfully and he laughs. iâm serious! those two morons will probably just think itâs my idea of teasing or being a jerk.

good, makkari kisses the hand sheâs holding before taking a reluctant step back, glancing at the time on the clock tower. because iâm going to win.
druig hums to himself and smiles. weâll see.

wouldnât miss it, druig confirms and leans down to swipe one last parting kiss. iâll be rooting for you.
i know sheâs very motherly which doesnât exactly scream slytherin, but she did invariably let so many planetsâaka billions of peopleâdie over the course of millions of years. she also kept so many secrets from the eternals. in the end she had a change of heart and we saw that her family and the people of earth meant more to her than arishem or her mission but it took her a while to get there, didnât it? for her it wasnât a matter of belief or morality, it was a matter of priorities. and she chose to prioritize humanity and the eternals over arishem and his design.
ikaris: gryffindor
now before anyone gets onto my case about this, letâs think about it. ikaris did what he did not for his own personal gain. he did it because he truly, genuinely believed with his whole being that it was the right thing. he didnât like who he became and what he had to do but for most of his story, for seven thousand years, that was the most important thing to him. until the last second. he also had this sort of self-righteous, holier-than-thou vibe about him. this man is a gryffindor.
sersi: hufflepuff
pretty self-explanatory if you ask me. just because she was brave and powerful, doesnât make her any less of a bonafide hufflepuff. she was kind and selfless and loyal and driven. a hard-worker and an honest, sincere woman willing to do anything for others. a hufflepuff.
phastos: ravenclaw
again, i think this one speaks for itself. heâs a creator, an inventor, an innovator. his mind is light years ahead of any of ours. he is beyond his time. he is curious and inquisitive and always looking for more. and better yet, he wants to share it with us all so we can have it too.
sprite: slytherin
sheâs jealous and self-conscious and mainly self-motivated. she never liked living with humans and the first chance she got to get rid of us all, she took it. more than a little petty and very sarcastic, if she isnât a slytherin (in many of the worst ways) then idk who is.
thena: slytherin
truthfully, i went back and forth on this a lot. i considered gryffindor because of how moral she is and ravenclaw based off of her being the goddess of wisdom. but in the end, i think every day of the week sheâd prioritize her family and the things that make her happy over the greater good? it may be selfish but itâs valid too. i think as humans weâre just lucky that one of those things included us. but sheâs not above things like revenge and pettiness as we can see with ikaris and kro. sheâs also allegedly a strategist (athena) and youâd have to be logical and analytical for that. so slytherin.
gilgamesh: hufflepuff
again, i donât think this is an unpopular opinion. look at him. look at how loving and nurturing and loyal and kind and totally badass he is and try and take this from my cold, dead hands. you canât.
kingo: gryffindor
for many of the same reasons as ikaris but where ikaris embodies many negative gryffindor traits, kingo is the opposite. kingo too has strong beliefs and when he refuses to join the final fight because of them, we can see that he absolutely will take a stand for them nor will he sway from them. but unlike ikaris, he refuses to hurt anyone for his beliefs. in the end, he follows his heart and he just wants everyone else to follow theirs. no matter what that might mean.
druig: gryffindor
hot take, iâm sure. yes, heâs sarcastic. yes, he can be a bit of an asshole sometimes. yes, he seems to stand more on the side of logic and reasoning. but you cannot change my mind. his morals are strong and he always stands by them, even if it means leaving the family heâs had for thousands of years and betraying their mission. heâs stubborn like that. heâs also not above impulsivity as we can see from him stopping the massacre of tenochtitlan. it was a split second decision. he was also more than willing to give his life on a mostly half-baked plan to save the world. heâs not just the edgy bastard a lot of you make him out to be. he feels for people and wants to do right by them all.
makkari: ravenclaw
this is another one that i went back and forth with. i really considered gryffindor for her as well, but i think itâs the development that they actually cut from makkari that points to ravenclaw. like in the deleted scene where she tells sprite that she hoarded all those human things because she didnât want to seem them destroyed. she couldnât stand the humans ruining their own history and culture. it was also said in some promotion (i canât remember which) that makkari has traveled every single inch of the world and is a little bored staying on earth after because she wants to see and explore more planets. but her knowledge of earth and its people is almost infinite. hence ravenclaw.

mans may just want a little bit of adventure but thatâs not a gryffindor exclusive trait. in the end, he shows himself to be a fiercely kind and loyal and loving man and a true friend to kingo and humanity. i canât imagine him as anything else.
dane: ravenclaw!!
heâs a professor who loves his cool (historian?) girlfriend even though she turns out to basically be an immortal witchy alien robot. he has many questions but he rolls with the punches and keeps learning more and more. what more can you ask from your friendly neighborhood happy-go-lucky ravenclaw?

makkari checks the time on her phone again with a defeated sigh. all around her students danced, shoes off and spirits high. sheâd been watching sersi jump between ikaris and dane all night and she thinks she might explode if she has to sit here on the sidelines for much longer.
she thought he would be here.
druig has never been the type to show his face at school events. makkari knows that. not a single dance, football game, debate club, or chess tournament. hell, he only came to the track meets because she was always competing. or, at least she thought so.
and, well, he didnât really ask her to prom either. and she didnât ask him. but she told him she was going (as a top contender for prom queen) and theyâve just always been on the same wavelength.
she texted him about her dress, wondering if perhaps they would match. she complained about her shoes and the ungodly high heels she chose.
she told him sheâd like to dance.
maybe she shouldâve clarified she wanted to with him. but he knew, didnât he? it was their littleâŠunspoken thing. he knew.

a swift tap to her shoulder and makkari turned to her left to find thena. regal thena in glittering gold. makkari attempted an attentive smile.
heâs still not here? she signed as she spoke. it was a bit hard to catch them in the lighting but makkari gathered what she meant.
she shook her head and thena frowned in disappointment.
why wait for him then? she asks, nudging her playfully. he doesnât know what heâs missing.
makkari chuckles quietly and raises an eyebrow. and what do you suggest?
thena smirks and shrugs. you could join gil and me. i know youâve been itching to get out on that dance floor all night.
tempting, makkari teases and looks out to where gilgamesh corrects phastosâ rendition of the robot. but i wouldnât want to third wheel you two.
you know we wonât mind. thena assures her.
i know, makkari nods kindly, reaching out momentarily to squeeze thenaâs hand in gratitude. but itâs true. i think iâll just go splash some water on my face and iâll be back out.
the blonde eyes her elaborate (and rather impressive) makeup skeptically but nods and waves as she joins her boyfriend before he can start a dance war.
rising from her plastic chair, makkari wanders over to the bathroom but doesnât quite make it there. she walks off until sheâs out of sight and lingers outside the entrance of the venue. her hands massage her temples as she wallows momentarily in her self pity.
she feels stupid.
really, she thinks, it was a bit foolish and unfair of her to just assume druig would come. just to be with her. how self-absorbed must one be to think they have that kind of affect on someone who isnât even their boyfriend. druig didnât owe it to her to be there. especially if he doesnât actually want to be. she supposed she justâŠgot carried away by the moment. the thought of dancing with him off-beat to whatever song was playing. of holding his hand as the prom king and queen were announced. of showing the school how much he means to her when she gave him the privilege of stealing the queenâs heart.
it was all sheâd wanted for tonight. but try as she might she canât make him do something he doesnât want to do.
or like someone that he doesnât.
an approaching figure catches her attention and she pulls herself back together. only to immediately fall apart again once she meets his eye.
well, well, well, mâlady. you come here often?
druig. standing there. smirkingâbecause of course he isâbut itâs sweet and genuine in a way that seems too much like a smile to really be a proper smirk. after signing, he clasps his hands behind him and rocks playfully on his feet. his hair is dark as usual but a clear attempt was made to control it and his red dress shirt is only halfway tucked into his black slacks. beneath them peeks his usual thick boots, his leather jacket hugging him perfectly.
he is so, completely, unreasonably attractive.
and very, very late.
makkari blinks in surprise and hesitates to respond. druigâs smirk widens at this and he dares a step closer.
she starts and brings her hands back up to sign, i didnât think you were coming. youâre well past late.
iâm sorry, beautiful, he laments and itâs only when he says it that it seems genuine. arishem didnât want to let me leave.
arishem? you had work tonight? she frowns in confusion.
druig nods easily. i picked up another shift.

she looks him up and down appreciatively though does her best to seem unimpressed. youâre wearing your leather jacket. she replies with her own smirk.
his cheeks pink at that and he smiles a bit bashfully. âyes, well, i had to add some personality to it. didnât exactly want to show up looking like everyone else.â he speaks this time as his hands translate. he rolls his shoulders like itâs water running down his back and his eyes take her in once more. speaking of which, iâm ashamed i havenât yet told you how stunning you look tonight. i always said red was your color.
makkari smiles but doesnât let him get away with the topic change. why didnât you text? or let me know you were coming at all?
druig sighs ruefully though it seems he didnât expect it to slip by her. i wanted to surprise you, he signs slowly. didnât expect arishem to keep me there so long.
his eyes flick back up to hers. wary and a bit timid as though waiting for her to reject his apology. makkari simply grins, bright and dazzling, and closes the gap between them to throw her arms around his neck.
it takes him barely a second to return the gesture, his arms snaking naturally around her waist. she swears she feels his whole body sagging in relief as they rock slowly. they take their time enjoying the embrace before pulling back just enough to touch their foreheads together. her happy smile never leaves her as she opens her eyes to look up at him. his own stare back at her as well, beautiful and blue and shimmering in the dark.
eventually, they pull back even further so she can sign, letâs get outta here. do something fun.
he arches an eyebrow of his own and smirks. the smirk that always told her he loved her idea. oh? winning prom queen isnât fun anymore?
i only wanted to win to show you off, she admits with a coyness to cover the sincerity of her confession. but iâm bored of it. plus these heels suck.
show me off, aye? like⊠he stalls as he pulls her closer again. âŠsome sort of jewel or emerald tablet?
she nods with a laugh. precisely. so, what do you say?

(later that night he kisses her goodnight after hours of their own kind of fun and thena texts her to tell her that she won. and no one was there to accept the crown.
she doesnât care, though. druig never screamed conventional. but then again, neither did she.)
