seriously, WHY exactly do we think Wish is the "worst" animated Disney film again?
not to beat a dead horse further into a bloody pulp, but I just watched Wish (yes, THAT Wish) and I genuinely don't get why it gets the insane amount of vitriol it receives at all.
sure, it's Disney, it's really fast paced and the songs have, to say the least, unconventional lyrics ("watch out world, here I are" could've easily been "watch out world, here WE are" ngl), but the animation is genuinely beautiful and while it's not the greatest way to celebrate a 100-year-anniversary (Once Upon a Studio was an infinitely better tribute), it's still a fun watch as its own standalone film.
"Wish was run through SlopGPT" (DEBUNK: movie started production in 2018 before ChatGPT was even a thing)
"Asha was the true villain and Magnifico sucked" (DEBUNK: No she wasn't. She wanted to make her grandfather happy.)
"The concept art with Starboy was better" (ok I can't debunk this one, the concept art is cool)
"Magnifico's song sucks because it's fun and upbeat and not spoopy and imposing" (so what?? villain songs don't HAVE to be strictly dark and unsettling!)
"the songs were written with AI slop" (DEBUNK: No, they weren't. SOME of them just have weird lyrics.)
"Magnifico makes no sense as a villain" (DEBUNK: Actually, yes he does. He was traumatized from his wish being destroyed in the past and as such, he's paranoid about what people will do with the wishes he has kept locked away and descends into villainy when Asha challenges him and exposes his flaws. Say what you want about Magnifico as a villain, bu at least the writers tried their very best to return the traditional Disney villain format to the big screen!)
...are we even watching the same goddamn movie? Wish didn't have an AI-generated script ffs, the film literally started production all the way back in 2018. WAY before SlopGPT was made. And yeah, the concept art looked incredible and would've made a much more memorable film, but atp I'm convinced that most people who hate Wish either got their opinions off their favorite YouTuber or barely, if ever, watched the movie. And calling it "Disney's Worst" is a MASSIVE overexaggeration. Shit like 90% of the live-action de-makes (especially the new Lilo and Stitch de-make which undid important character growth and COMPLETELY erased the message of the original 2002 film) and Chicken Little are right there.
TL;DR: Disney's Wish isn't as bad as everyone thinks, and should've been given a chance because while it is nowhere near being a masterpiece, it's far from Disney's worst in their catalogue.
