THEIR STORY

Ethan's childhood is a stark contrast to his later life. He was raised in opulence, surrounded by luxury and privilege within the grand halls of a mansion just outside of Bearcreek. As an only child, Ethan felt life was lonesome back then. His parents showered him with gifts instead of love. His parents were always away from home for business or some social event they had to attend, leaving Ethan to be raised by nannies. 

After being homeschooled by private teachers before he was sent off to boarding school during his formative high school years, Ethan found solace in forming deep connections with friends who became his family. They were the ones who truly understood him, offering support and friendship in the absence of parental guidance. 

Despite excelling academically and being groomed for a prestigious career in law by his parents, Ethan felt a growing sense of unease as he neared graduation from Harvard Law School. The path before him did not resonate with his true passions and desires. During this time of inner turmoil, he made a courageous decision – to follow his heart's calling and become a kindergarten teacher. Despite his parents' disapproval and disappointment, Ethan found immense joy in shaping young minds and making a difference in their lives. 

As he embarked on this new chapter filled with purpose and fulfillment, Ethan wrestled with newfound emotions. One person stood out among all the others – one of his friends he had been drawn to ever since they first met. Their bond deepened into something more profound than friendship, but Ethan struggled to accept these unfamiliar feelings. Seeking clarity and understanding, Ethan temporarily distanced himself from everything familiar. He embarked on a soul-searching journey that took him all the way to Europe, allowing him the space to unravel the complexities of his heart. 

After many months of reflection and self-discovery, Ethan returns to Bearcreek with renewed purpose and clarity. He realizes that true happiness lies not in fitting others' expectations but in embracing what brings him genuine joy—teaching young children and being there for those who matter most in his life.

Ethan: I could never hate you. Ethan: That would be it. Consider this as me asking. Ethan: Every bag and suitcase is unpacked. Even survived being dragged to a charity event by mother dearest, so it's safe to say I've settled in okay.

Not since college. I tend to get a little further out from town if I'm going to possibly hookup with someone.

Wait, you sometimes hook up with people? I can't remember the last time I did such a thing... the last time must have been in college, I think.

Mack: Hopefully I didn't say anything insulting... There are very few people in this life I ever expected to run into again, so I feel you. As for what brings me here, my truck broke down in Allentown and between getting it fixed and the hotel stays, I ended up figuring it was cheaper to rent an apartment and start saving up again, since it killed my savings.

Ethan: To be honest, I blocked so much from those days that I can't remember if you did or didn't say anything insulting. Going to law school was not for me. I saw the light, decided to not follow the path my parents wanted me to be on and became a teacher. Ethan: I guess there are worse places to be when your truck breaks down.

ethan: Hi, I was wondering if you feel like meeting up. Maybe go to a movie together?

Delilah: I would like that - is there a film you wanted to see?

Ethan: Great! Truthfully, I have no idea what is playing atm, so if there's a movie you want to see we can go see that.

Oh god, I actually need to make a list now, don't I? So far like -- you, and Tina and Daria and Delilah and Frankie and Juni, and maybe Robbie, and I also cannot guarantee that one (or both) of my brothers won't crash periodically. That's like a whole-ass group effort to get you caught up, I totally think we can do it.

Finding someplace that sells them, honestly. There are so many sources of tasty treats in town, but not so much on the mimosas. Sad face.

There are some familiar and some not-familiar names on that list, and I can't wait to meet all of them—and you, of course—and catch up on all things Bearcreek.

Ah, yes, that does sound like a huge problem. What if someone offered to host the brunch at their place, and we brought our own alcohol? Maybe we could rotate hosting duties within the group.

Mack: Especially if said memory includes a southern accent. I was "Y'alternative" before it was cool. Yeah, can't say you, in particular, are familiar, but I saw so many students in and out of the bookstore so...

Ethan: Ding ding ding... the southern accent... I do remember that very clearly. That you were. Never thought I'd run into you ever again, especially not in a town like this. What brings you here? Don't worry; I know I'm not memorable to most people. I'm perfectly fine with that.

I honestly never thought I would say this, but I figured people are probably going to find out at some point anywhere. The wrongful death suit is finally over, and thankfully it went in my favor. I'm glad that I can keep my medical license, but this whole situation has really made me start thinking about some things. I've officially made the decision to leave the hospital. I've been there for nearly 10 years, and when they didn't even consider backing me in the lawsuit...that spoke volumes to me. In fact, they tried to frame me as negligent in their own defense. I don't know what I'm going to do just yet, but I know that my time with Garden Grove is over. So...on to the next chapter, I suppose?

Congratulations, it's great to hear that you won that lawsuit. I can only imagine how happy you are that you won and that you get to keep your medical license. Wow, that must have been a tough decision to make. Maybe easy because of their lack of support, but leaving a position you had for 10 years and not knowing what the future will bring... that's brave!

Do you have any idea of what you want to do next? Still in the medical field, or perhaps something new entirely?

Mack: I started at Harvard 14 years ago, so it's definitely possible we crossed paths that way. Worked in the campus bookstore. Had long hair and facial piercings back then.

Ethan: I remember someone working in the bookstore that fits that description so that must have been why I had the feeling we met before. I was the typical law school student who rushed in and out of the store at least once a week. Wouldn't surprise me if we all looked alike to someone, ha

No problem, dude! Honestly, awesome to see you taking it in stride. Kissing is super underrated anyway. Like, yeah, the good stuff is the good stuff, but people underestimate how awesome a good makeout session is, in my humble opinion.
