Heading Home

The problem with the 30 minute trip home from your place isn’t the delay in ending my night but the expanse of thoughts that go through my head.

The thoughts range from happy recollections of the time we just spent together to the gutting feeling of acknowledging the inevitable end to what we have.

It’s flourishing yet it’s fleeting. I sit here thinking that we should just end it now. End it on a high note? But then I think about how not to miss you when I run into you.

This is one of those times in life when we are presented with a situation that has more questions than answers. So do we decide to take the time to answer those questions together?

Or, do we realize that this situation, in which the volume of questions far exceeds obvious answers, is actually itself a warning sign and we should just get out before we invest too much into it?

I honestly don’t know. I want your companionship, but what do I do about the feeling of losing control of myself? Are you worth it to me? Am I worth it to you?

And now the inevitable has come to pass - the answer to both of those last two questions is no. But, it’s not that simple is it?

Even though we know the answer is no there’s something inside of us fighting it. And there lies the complication.

But I’m finally home now, so I guess I’ll have to sleep on it until the next time I leave you to rendezvous with my thoughts.
