Though her words aren’t exactly the height of comfort, there’s a certain calm that comes with such sobering empathy. Even just that is enough to pick him up a little, and it brings a tug of a wry smile to the corners of his mouth. “Yeah…no foolin’. I uhm……I guess I’m kinda glad somebody’s trying to help figure it out though. Even if it doesn’t yield much, the effort is uh…well, I appreciate it.”

Being honest though, he’d like to avoid thinking about someone else making the same mistake as he did - finding that book especially. He’d rather the thing get burnt up than fall in someone else’s hands. As for the Beast? Well, it’s true, he has no idea how to kill it…but he hopes it’s not impossible, at least.

“Thing like him definitely will take…something unusual to cap. I have no clue what that might be, but…I don’t think he’d be waxing mastermind so hard if he wasn’t a little afraid of biting the dust somehow. Might be a little bold of me to presume but…I’m thinkin’ there’s some way to kill him. If he was already unkillable, you’d have to wonder why he would even bother with all this.”

          she   could   only   imagine   what   it’d   be   like   to   be   constantly   chased   the   way   he   was      —      caught   in   an   endless   game   of   cat   &&   mouse   where   he   had   no   choice   but   to   take   on   the   role   of   the   VICTIM .      still ,      she   did   have   to   admit   there   was   something   nice   about   the   fact   that   at   least   he   still   had   a   sense   of   humor .      hadn’t   managed   to   lose   it   somewhere   along   the   way .      had   to   admit   there   was   something   satisfying   about   at   least   having   someone   appreciate   that   she   was   trying   to   help .      (      sure ,      half   the   time   when   a   ghost   shows   up   things   get   destroyed ,      but   the   vast   majority   of   the   time ,      that   destruction   isn’t   her   fault .      not   that   anyone   else   seems   to   care .      )

          not   to   mention   that   he   at   least   seems   intelligent .      smart   enough   to   be   able   to   figure   out   this   much .      &&   his   theory   about   killing   the   creature   couldn’t   be   too   far   off ,      either .      would   offer   a   slight   nod .      “      if   there’s   one   thing   i   know ,      it’s   that   the   only   shit   in   this   world   that’s   IMMORTAL   is   god   &&   satan ,      &&   even   then   i'm   not   convinced   that’s   true .      something’s   gotta   be   able   to   kill   whatever’s   after   you ,      it’s   just   a   matter   of   figuring   out   what .      ‘cause   you’re   right .      far   as   i   know ,      most   of   the   demons   that   try   to   pull   this   kind   of   shit   are   on   the   higher   level   of ,      like ,      unintelligent   demons .      or   right   on   the   edge .      sounds   to   me   like   it’s   gotta   do   some   part   of   this   shit   to   stay   alive   &&   the   rest   of   it’s   just       —      boredom   or   something .      ”      a   guess ,      but   couldn’t   be   so   far   off .      he’d   referred   to   it   as   endless   cat   &&   mouse   before   anyways ,      hadn’t   he ?

          &&   maybe   there   was   something   to   that .      maybe   he   was   only   being   played   with .      tormented ,      but   kept   alive   long   enough   for   the   so - called   CAT   in   this   game   to   play .      allowed   it   to   hunt .      so   he   has   to   be   marked   somehow ,      right ?      scented   or   tracked   or   something .      something   that   left   the   demon   able   to   trace   him   even   after   letting   him   go   &&   dumping   him   wherever   it   was   he   would   end   up .      “      you're   sure   it’s   always   the   same   one ,      right ?      or   could   there   be   multiple ?      ”      that   could   complicate   things .      certainly   hoped   it   wasn’t   a   group   of   the   things .

          Looping    her    left    index    finger    through    the    key-ring    –    scrawny    redhead    turned    to    look    at    the    other.    SHAME   &   DEFEAT    written    across    her    face.    She    hated    admitting    that    her    injury    was    getting    the    best    of    her.    Made    her    feel    PATHETIC.    Especially    when    said    injury    was    self-inflicted.    She    could    be    such    a    fucking    idiot    sometimes    (all   the   time).    Jangle.    Jangle.    She    jingled    the    keys    in    front    of    Blondie’s    face   –    Offering    an   almost    SHEEPISH    GRIN.    Wasn’t   often   Helena   felt   this   way.    “Lucky    I    got    such    a    talented    Angel    on    my    hands    then.”    Half-mock,    half-praise    –    altogether    genuinely    grateful.   Though    she    wasn’t    about    to    say    THANKS.    She    really    just    wanted    to    get    to    that    fucking    church    and    FORGET.    “Can    I    at    least    snort    the    coke    off    yer    tits?” 

          After    passing    the    keys    over,    she    offered    a    swift    nod    of    her    head,    pushing    up    the    center-console    –    sending    a    few    needles    TOPPLING    onto    the    backseat    floorboard.    “Jus’    be    careful.    I    ain’t    never    let    no    one    drive    her    b’fore.    She’s    special    ta    me.    Only    thing    I    got    left.”    LITERALLY    she    LIVED    outta    the    damn    truck    –    Scooting    over    she    nestled    her    tiny    body    into    the    passenger    seat.    Waiting    for    Pantella    to    turn    the    key    in    the    ignition    before    quickly    twisting    the    volume    up    on    the    radio.    LOUD    punk    music    BLARING    out    the    speakers.    Hateful.    Angry.    Unintelligible    to    most.    Helena    was    already    singing    along    –    cradling    her    right    hand    against    her    stomach    while    her    left    reached    over    to    rest    on    her    plaything’s    thigh.    Fingertips    tapping    along    to    the    beat    across    her    leg.

          “Fuuuck.”    Skull    rolled    back    against    the    headrest.    CHILDISH    IMPATIENCE    flaring    up    –     at    least    when    she    was    driving    she    was    distracted.    “Tonight    sucks    balls.”    Pause    and    a    glance    over    at    Pantella,    “When    the    transmission    starts    makin’    funny    noises    jus’    push    it    honey  —  Need    ta   get    there    as    soon    as    fuckin’   possible.” 

          even   if   the   praise   was   TAUNTING ,      there   was   something   about   it   that   was   still   oddly   nice      —      about   as   much   as   she   got   from   anyone   anymore .      grinned   as   she   offered   a   nod .     didn’t   care   if   she   didn’t   say   thanks .      took   the   keys   all   the   same ,      climbing   up   into   the   driver’s   seat   as   helena   moved   over .      “     'course .      ”      a   promise   she   was   definitely   willing   to   keep       —     at   least ,      after   she   managed   to   take   care   of   the   other’s   hand .      not   that   she’d   add   that   demand   now .     (      deceptive ?     maybe .      but   it   was   for   the   best ,      right ?      )      still ,      she’d   heed   the   other’s   warning      —      seemed   more   genuine   than   most   of   what   came   out   of   helena’s   mouth .

          she   wouldn’t   waste   time   in   turning   the   key   in   the   ignition ,      the   sound   of   the   engine   quickly   replaced   by   blasting   music       —      glance   to   the   other’s   hand   as   she   turned   up   the   volume ,      though   she   wouldn’t   complain .      really   didn’t   mind   it ,      anyways       —      liked   the   heavy   beat   &&   the   way   bass   seemed   to   make   the   frame   of   the   truck   shiver   along   with   it .      blue   eyes   barely   flickered   towards   the   other   as   she   felt   fingers   against   thigh ,      though   she’d   almost   instinctively   find   herself   relaxing   into   the   touch ,      nudged   just   a   little   closer .      offered   a   soft   hum   of   agreement   at   the   other’s   words .      really   HADN’T   gone   that   well ,      had   it ?      but   it   might   be   able   to   improve ,      right ?      at   least ,      if   she   managed   to   keep   helena   from   doing   anything   even   more   dangerous   than   she   already   had .      or ,      perhaps   a   more   LIKELY   option ,      at   least   keep   her   from   breaking   any   more   bones .

          the   other’s   instructions   would   be   taken   heed   of   as   she   drove   towards   the   church       —      admittedly   speeding   in   an   attempt   to   get   there   at   least   a   little   bit   faster ,      if   only   because   she   knew   that   between   helena’s   impatience   &&   her   pain   arriving   sooner   rather   than   LATER   would   probably   be   in   both   of   their   best   interests .      “      we’ll   be   there   soon       —      s’   not   too   far   away .      ”      hopefully   reassuring   to   at   least   some   extent .

          “Now yer talkin’.” For the first time tonight, the beautiful girl’s voice was MUSIC to her ears – Helena didn’t care what “stuff” Pantella had. Anything was better than NOTHING. “Fuuuck. S’it cheesy an’ redundant ta say yer a godsend, Angel?” The shift in her demeanor was INSTANTANEOUS. She just needed to forget everything that had happened earlier tonight in a blur of ecstasy – numb the pain. Swift step in the other’s direction and she SNATCHED VICIOUSLY (and gawkily) at blonde hair – still using her non-dominant hand. She pushed up on toes and crashed lips together with BRUISING FORCE. Tongue delving into that pretty mouth – Jaws grinding. Teeth clattering. Chests pressed flush together. “Mm..” Deep guttural groan – She bit down hard on Pantella’s bottom lip. Tugging in an attempt to rip it open. CRAVING BLOOD. 

          “Let’s go.” Words rushed hot and breathy across pink lips – Followed by a playful SLAP of her plaything’s ass, before Helena rounded the beat up ol’ Chevy and climbed inside. In her current state, she really shouldn’t be driving. But, when had that ever STOPPED her before. “What kinda stuff we talkin’?” Redhead finally asked, digging keys out of her pocket and hastily realizing another reason she shouldn’t be driving. Her fucking hand was BROKEN. “Uh…” She’d never let anyone else drive her baby before. “Do Angels know how ta drive?” One of the WEIRDEST questions she had ever asked. 

          she’d   been   sure   helena   would   agree      —      perhaps   didn’t   know   her   that   well ,      but   knew   her   enough   to   be   relatively   certain   that   this   half - plan   of   hers’   would   work .      couldn’t   help   but   feel   just   a   little   guilty   that   she   was   planning   trying   to   force   helena   to   at   least   take   care   of   her   obvious   injury .      was   growing   more   &&   more   certain   it   was   more   serious   than   the   other   claimed   it   was   each   time   she   caught   sight   of   it .      not   for   any   good   reason ,      but   because   the   sight   of   it   made   her   stomach   churn .

          still ,      the   compliment   wasn’t   lost   on   her       —      the   implication   that   maybe   helena   at   least   liked   being   around   her   taken   as   something   good ,      even   if   she   knew   it   was   likely   only   because   of   the   promise   of   drugs .      (      she   didn’t   really   mind ,      though .      was   nice   to   be   wanted   for   something   rather   than   be   completely   &&   utterly   useless .      )      so   when   the   other   came   closer ,      she’d   be   met   with   the   slightest   tug   of   a   smile   across   soft ,      pink   lips       —      lashes   fluttered   slightly   as   helena’s   hand       —      albeit   more   clumsily   than   usual       —      tugged   roughly   at   thick ,      blonde   locks ,      closed   as   lips   met .      she’d   nearly   melt   beneath   that   harsh ,      bruising   kiss   with   a   moan   that   originated   in   the   back   of   her   throat      —      lips   parted   easily   for   the   other’s   tongue   as   she   met   it   with   her   own .      could   already   feel   the   throbbing   of   her   heart   just  behind   her   ribs   as   the   other’s   chest   pressed   into   her   own .      breath   came   in   a   shuddering   moan   as   teeth   dug   into   her   lip ,      nearly   enough   to   make   her   bleed .

          as   helena   pulled   away   she’d   find   herself   breathless       —      a   smile   on   lips   &&   a   slight   laugh   as   she   nodded       —      though   she’d   hesitate   as   the   other   got   into   the   car ,      already   beginning   to   realize   the   issue ,      so   instead   of   heading   to   the   passenger   side ,      she’d   follow   behind   the   other   towards   the   driver’s   side ,      albeit   a   few   steps   back .      “      i've   got   beer ,      vodka ,      some   coke ,      &&   a   pack   of   cigarettes   some   guy   left   behind .      nothing   super   intense ,      but   it’s   something .      ”      hopefully   enough   that   helena   wouldn’t   change   her   mind ,      at   least .      watched   as   the   other   struggled   to   retrieve   her   keys .      as   the   realization   seemed   to   click .      a   light ,      breathy   sort   of   laugh   at   the   question .      “      all   angels ?      no .      but ,      lucky   for   us ,      i   do .      ”      took   a   strange   sort   of   pride   in   that   relatively   basic   knowledge .      (      admittedly   did   want   to   impress   her ,      even   in   a   small   way .      )      “      scoot   over ?      ”

          RELIEF –  Cascaded over her when her blonde fucktoy dropped the lecture. Probably wasn’t fair. She’d always been COLD & RUTHLESS, but she’d been better than this. Conscience was a quiet whisper being suffocated in the back of her skull these days. Couldn’t think straight. Couldn’t think AT ALL. Helena had caught Pantella’s flinch out of the corner of her eye – if her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her. She was becoming JUST LIKE DADDY. Scaring, hurting, abusing – 

          “Jus’ drop it. Hand’ll be fine. Broken finger ain’t gon’ fuckin’ kill me.” Reaching down, she attempted to straighten out the digit – SNAP it back into place. NO LUCK. “Been through way worse than this.” Uninjured hand moved absentmindedly to the deep, maroon scar that ran from just under her chin all the way ‘neath the collar of her black T-shirt. “Had ta stitch this one up all by myself. Runnin’ from the cops. I can’t go ta the hospital, Angel. Jus’—please shut up.” ‘Stop carin’ ‘bout me.’ Even if she NEEDED TO she couldn’t RISK going to a hospital – she had multiple illegal substances in her veins and was a FUCKING FUGITIVE. Of course, Pantella didn’t know all that. Was better that way. “I jus’ need a fix an’ I’ll be good as new. Promise.” LIAR. Left hand dug into the pocket of her baggy jeans – pulling out her pack of smokes and flipping them open. CLUMSY. Wasn’t her dominant hand. “Shit. Outta smokes too. Fuckin’ Christ.” Paperboard box was tossed to the street. 

          a   deep   breath   as   she   tried   to   figure   out   what   she   was   going   to   do .      knew   that   maybe   this   was   none   of   her   business ,      but   she   wasn’t   about   to   ignore   something   that   looked   so       —      gruesome .      figured   she’d   trust   helena   on   the   fact   that   she   didn’t   need   a   hospital .      didn’t   know   enough   about   how   humans   healed   to   argue       —      only   knew   that   it   probably   needed   some   kind   of   attention .      gaze   flickered   between   the   scar   she   referred   to   &&   her   hand       —      uncertain .      concern   etched   into   the   slight   furrow   of   blonde   brows ,      yet   offered   a   small ,      understanding   nod .

          she’d   watch   the   way   helena   struggled   with   her   non - dominant   hand       —      idea   beginning   to   occur   to   her   at   the   statement   as   the   empty   box   was   tossed   into   the   street .      “      i   got   some   stuff   back   at   the   church ,      if   ya   want .      preacher’s   not   gonna   be   around   'til   tomorrow   afternoon   earliest ,      so   nobody’d   need   t’   know .      ”      mostly   lots   alcohol ,      a   little   coke ,      &&   a   pack   of   cigarettes   a   guy   she’d   fucked   left   behind ,      but   that   wasn’t   the   point .      at   least   if   she   dragged   helena   back   there   she   could   get   her   to   take   care   of   her   hand .      maybe   google   how   to .      at   least   make   sure   she   was   okay .      because   physical   state   aside ,      she   didn’t   want   to   just   leave   her   alone   when   there   was   something   bothering   her   so   much ,      whether   she   was   going   to   talk   about   it   or   not .

         “The Hell do y’know ‘bout it?” Helena SNAPPED – Fingers TREMBLING as she picked away VICIOUSLY at the skin surrounding her nails. Blood bubbling to the surface – dark eyes fixed on hands. REFUSING to look at her. Thin, malnourished arms littered with fresh puncture wounds, cuts, and bruises. The high felt so far away. She was CRASHING DOWN. Missed it. And nothing Pantella said was gonna change that. “Y–Yer jus’ a naive bitch! FUCK!” Knuckles found the paint-chipped bed of her truck – Splitting open at the contact. Under the influence, she didn’t know her own strength. Tonight wasn’t supposed to be like this. She didn’t want the blonde seeing her LIKE THIS. She’d only wanted to fuck her – take out some of that aggression. Feel a high again.

         “Fuckin’ fuck.” Redhead HISSED – not that she could FEEL her hand. But, she could see it. Pale flesh had been ripped from knuckles leaving a BLOODY MESS. That was gonna hurt like a bitch if she ever came fully down. “I didn’t come an’ pick y’up for a fuckin’ therapy session.” Fingers curled and uncurled like a spider’s legs when it dies – One wasn’t moving. DEFINITELY BROKEN.

          oh ,      she’s   naive ,      but   she   learns   fast .      knew   her   own   self - destructive   tendencies      —      didn’t   typically   call   others   out   on   THEIRS .      didn’t   have   much   room   to   judge   when   her   own   were   the   main   reason   she   was   so   eager   to   meet   helena   tonight .      but   this   was   extreme ,      wasn’t   it ?      the   fresh   cuts   &&   bruises   that   decorated   her   arms       —      the   way   she   was   acting .      not   that   the   angel   expected   the   other   to   be   kind      (      she   knew   what   she   was   getting   herself   into      )      but   there   was   something   different   in   the   way   she   acted   now .      noticed   the   way   blood   pooled   in   her   cuticles .

          she'd   flinch   slightly   as   the   other’s   fist   met   the   metal   of   the   truck       —      a   REFLEX   rather   than   a   testament   to   whether   or   not   she   was   genuinely   afraid   of   helena .      (      she   wasn’t .      hadn’t   had   any   issues   with   her   yet ,      at   least .      didn’t   mind   the   other’s   thinly - veiled   aggression   when   she   was   nearly   immortal   anyways .      )      she’d   roll   her   eyes   as   she   followed   the   other’s   gaze   to   now - bloody   fingers .      one   that   didn’t   move .      “      fucking   CHRIST      —      ”      spoken   beneath   her   breath   as   she   took   in   the   severity   of   the   wound       —      the   fact   that   one   of   those   fingers   weren’t   moving .      “      look       —      i   get   it       —      i   don’t   know   shit   about   like       —      this   world       —      but   i’m   not   stupid .      i   know   what   you’re   doing .      &&   like ,      if   you're   that   pissed   i   asked ,      we   don’t   have   t’   talk   about   it ,      but   you        —      should   probably   go   to   the   fucking   hospital   ‘cause   that   doesn’t   look   GOOD .      ”

—  Returning to Hope’s Peak after everything Airi had been through, after losing Mimori, was harder on the trainer then she imagined it would be. Rantaro and Iizuka had graduated as well, leaving her alone at the school. She tried to make friends, though found herself not enjoying talking to the majority of students she approached, she could get used to being alone anyway. So she resolved to spend time in the courtyard of the school with a German Shepherd she had begun to bring along with her when faced with the new fear of being attacked or hurt when alone. She decided to ditch training that day, simply trying to put a smile on her face while playing with her dog.

Though, her focus was broken when a strange dog(?) had come up, seeming interested in the aforementioned dog. The poor thing seemed lost, or at least had sprinted away from their owner faster then they could follow. So she slowly raised her hand out to the dog, and shortly after gently began to pet it. After looking around to make sure she couldn’t see the owner, however, she began to wonder where they could be.

“Hey, there little thing… are you own your own?” The concern was evident in her tone, “I hope your owner’s around here…”

          she’d   been   following   after   the   green   demon - dog   at   a   meandering   pace .      might   have   been   able   to   catch   up   if   she’d   sprinted ,      but   definitely   wasn’t   interested   on   expending   that   much   energy   on   it   when   she   knew   the   creature   was   as   near - immortal   as   they   came .      had   been   hit   by   cars   hundreds   of   times   before   &&   didn’t   have   so   much   as   a   scratch   to   show   for   it .      so   it   would   be   a   minute   before   she   reached   the   other ,      watched   unconcerned   as   chuck   sniffed   at   her   hand   &&   wagged   his   zipper   tail   at   the   pets .

          she’d   wave   to   the   other   with   one   hand ,      other   shoved   in   the   pocket   of   her   jacket .      glanced   towards   the   real   dog   the   other   had   with   her ,      slight   smile   tugging   at   the   corner   of   her   lips .      (      as   much   as   she   hated   the   people   there   on   earth   half   the   time ,      the   animals   really   were   a   highlight .      &&   something   she’d   definitely   miss   when   she   inevitably   needed   to   return   to   heaven .      among ,      of   course   plenty   of   other   things .      )

          but   that   was   a   concern   for   LATER .      one   she’d   push   off   as   long   as   she   possibly   could .      was   exactly   what   she   did   for   everything   else ,      after   all .      &&   this   was   another   perfect   distraction   from   that   MESS .      “      yo      —      thanks   for   catchin’   my   dog .      ”      as   if   there   was   any   planet   in   existence   on   which   he   could   be   mistaken   for   an   average   dog .      “      ‘s   that   other   one   yours ?      ‘cause   he   looks   way   cooler .      wanna   trade   or   some   shit ?      ”      a   deadpan   joke       —      as   if   she’d   ever   actually   give   up   her   nasty   demon   rat   dog .      not   when   he   was   really   the   closest   thing   to   family   she   had   on   earth .      (      &&   wasn’t   that   just   a   little   bit   depressing ?      )

The thought of any of those things being even remotely true was so far from possible in his mind the idea wasn’t even laughable, it was purely hysterical. “Since when have you been hesitant about anything Pantsu? The headstrong egotistical busybody who would rather rush head first into anything rather then thinking about it?” 

“As for problem child, you weren’t the one mother abandoned, neither was Stocking for that matter, the sacrifice so the girls could get the better end of the deal, liked me better? Hardly, the mere thought of me was so hideous to her she would rather leave me in hell then take any chances. But given her entire thing is about free will if you make a decision she won’t stop you from following through with it. The real question is do you want to go back to the pristine purity where everything has to be done just so or not? No matter what choice you make you know I’ll support you.”

          maybe   she   was   being   over - dramatic .      or   maybe   it   was   perspective .      or   maybe   it   was   a   little   bit   of   both .      insecurity .      fear   of   her   future .      she   didn’t   abandon   her ,      though ?      oh ,      panty   would   beg   to   differ .      she’d   already   had   her   powers   taken   away   once ,      hadn’t   she ?      had   been   stuck   on   earth   with   no   real   word   from   her   mother   for   two   years .      if   that   wasn’t   abandonment ,      what   was ?      “      she   lets   you   come   back ,      though .      hasn’t   said   shit   to   me   in   years .      doesn’t   seem   like   she   likes   me   all   that   much   more .      ”

          he   was   right   though .      she   didn’t   want   pristine   purity .      didn’t   want   PERFECTION .      maybe   all   she   really   wanted   was   closure .      wanted   to   be   given   the   option ,      if   only   so   that   refusing   to   stay   might   mean   something .      “      i   just   don’t   want   to   regret   shit ,      you   know ?      ”      a   pause   as   she   exhaled   in   a   heavy   sigh .      “      besides ,      maybe   i   could   get   them   to   loosen   the   fuck   up   if   i   did ,      right ?      i   mean ,      just   ‘cause   its   heaven   shouldn’t   mean   it’s   gotta   be   so   shitty ,      right ?      ”
