They burst into laughter, louder than the phone speakers should allow. The sound is filled with static and oddly pitch-shifted, even more painful than the sound of their voice.

       She chuffs, making her nostrils flare and then clench shut with the exhale, broad-bodied in the mass of such a sound. It sits, tinged with lower rumbles, things beyond most others’ hearing, but plain as day to Miranda.

       It’s hard. It’s hard, and no one one understands. She is an implement of the crown, a tool to be used at their disposal and little more, and they are the ones who hold final say over where she gets used and why. The terms of her stay inland are written in this language, this fundamental understanding of herself as Crown Princess, as creation made at their hands for their purposes. Her will is the will of the Throne’s, but it goes both ways, and the Throne can veto her own wants and needs if it deems them unsatisfactory to its own. It is hard being an object. It is hard not to be a person.

      No one can understand her from where she needs to be seen, and no one can hold her within their hands how she needs to be wielded, and they keep clutching this sword of her body close to their chests only to wonder why she keeps cutting them open.

silence. it was the only thing she could truly come up with. it wasn’t the right choice but there was nothing her brain could manage to think up in that split moment. the blood that dripped from his arm-- that stained along the side of his shirt.

the ghoul herself was anything but normal. even if she tried to pretend as though she were. moving closer, she found her eyes scan over his body-- still trying to wrap her head around the sight in front of her. his insistence on denying her help-- on keeping his burdens to himself. at the risk of hurting someone-- not just her.

                hand  grips  the  paper  tightly ,  scanning  it  over  multiple  times  despite  knowing  for  a  fact  that  she  had  understood  every  single  word  from  the  second  she  first  glanced  at  the  paper .  

                she’s  trembling ,  just  slightly ,  a  hard  to  explain  expression  on  her  face .  erika  was  never  very  good  at  keeping  her  emotions  under - wraps  and  she  didn’t  know  how  she  was  meant  to  react  to  this . . .  this . . .  MOCKERY .

                ‶  is  this  some  JOKE ?  ″  for  a  brief  moment ,  fury .  her  face  red  as  she  grits  her  teeth  and  tosses  the  paper  aside .  she  didn’t  need  to  look  at  it  any  longer .  she  memorized  its  contents .  if  erika  wasn’t  holding  onto  the  slightest  bit  of  self  restraint ,  she  might  actually  physically  assault  adam  for  giving  her  something  so  presumptuous .

                a  breath  in ,  a  breath  out .  she  brushes  out  her  dress  and  straightens  her  posture ,  looking  towards  him  with  dead  eyes  and  a  calm  expression .

                ‶  i  don’t  need  your  pity .  this  application  is  laughable  at  best  and  hardly  reaches  any  standard .  do  you  really  think  a  girl  would  accept  you  after  filling  out  an  application  like  this ?  firstly ,  it’s  hardly  completed .  you  don’t  even  give  a  last  name  in  the  first  question .  by  this  alone  i  can  tell  that  this  wasn’t  even  worth  my  time ,  but  let’s  continue ,  shall  we ?  ″

                ‶  you  don’t  elaborate  on  any  answers  you  give .  you  say  you  like  to  cuddle ,  but  you  haven’t  listen  any  reason  why  let  alone  your  previous  experience  cuddling .  you  say  you’d  prefer  ice - cream  over  chocolate  covered  strawberries ,  which  is  a  claim  i  can  only  assume  was  made  with  complete  personal  bias  rather  than  actively  comparing  the  two .  besides ,  what  relevance  does  this  have  to  a  dating  application  anyway ?  none .  ″

                ‶  also ,  there’s  a  contradiction  in  here .  at  the  top  you  say  that  you  would  prefer  to  go  out  to  get  dinner ,  yet  later  on  you  mention  that  you  enjoy  cooking  and  would  like  to  cook  for  me  if  possible .  if  that  is  the  case ,  it  makes  me  wonder  why  you  would  prefer  going  out  to  eat  rather  than  impressing  me  with  some  homemade  dish .  could  it  be  that  your  cooking  isn’t  all  that  impressive ?  ″

                ‶  and ,  finally ,  the  point  i  find  most  offensive :  why  you  would  be  a  good  valentine .  being  a  mystery  does  not  mean  you  would  make  a  good  date .  sure ,  i  am  interested  in  you  on  a  purely  objective  level .  your  existence  is  perplexing  and  something  to  get  to  the  bottom  of ,  but  that  can  be  done  with  thorough  investigation .  being  your  valentine  does  not  effect  this  in  any  way .  spending  more  time  with  you  will  help  me  gather  more  information ,  but  that  can  be  done  at  any  time .  it  does  not  have  to  be  valentines  day  and  it  definitely  does  not  have  to  be  a  date .  ″

                ‶  you  are  pathetic ;  nothing  in  this  application  would  make  me  even  slightly  interested  in  being  your  valentine .  no  one  with  a  brain  would  actually  accept  such  a  ridiculous  proposal .  with  all  that  has  been  presented ,  this  level  of  reasoning  is  possible  for  furude  erika .  what  do  you  think ,  everyone ?  ″
