Jon Ola Sand literally said that the booing on Russia on last year’s show made the sisters cry their hearts out
I think I felt my heart breaking
And it’s going to happen again this year. The audience at Eurovision’s Greatest Hits even booed Russian LGBT-rights activist Dima Bilan, just for being Russian. But what exactly is the endgame of booing Russia? Let me tell you something, all this negativity isn’t going to make Russians reevaluate their LGBT stance. In fact, Russians will probably feel more isolated from the European community as a result, and if Russia were to withdraw, it would be symbolic of the country cutting ties with Europe, and could play a part in escalating the tensions to something much bigger. What we should be doing is showing Russia that they are allowed into the diverse European community, and that that community involves tolerance of religion, race, ethnicity, and indeed sexuality and gender. Booing Russia is a dangerous game to play that has no positive outcome. So stop it.
So much this. I was horrified and disgusted that Bilan was booed!
