As someone who really enjoyed Supersons and HATED when they aged up Jon - and even less that he became Superman before Conner (let Kon get at least a new identity) - I genuinely think the fans that keep insisting we should have them back have not read ANYTHING about either Jon or Damian since.

People continue to pretend Jay have no personality - someone even was like "when did they gave Jay power" when talking about the break up when Jay has been a meta from the start - and that Jon whole storyline after becoming an adult and meeting Jay was not well writen and compelling. But it was. Their break up makes so much sense but not in a way where Jon can just go back to being a kid now but in that both of them still have so much story and while I'm scared DC will use it to sideline Jon's bisexuality and erase Jay the way Secret Six directs it is to a feeling that things are not over for them and will never be.

Jay Nakamura is a character I want to keep seeing. Jonathan Kent is an adult now and he matured so much and Jay has made Jon finally have to grapple with so much of his conservative roots and the responsibilities of being Superman and grow as a person and Jon will never be that kid again.

And Damian also is not that kid. Damian has grown so much, experienced so much, made and lost friends and even if DC doesn't let him quit vigilantism just the fact that he wants to says A LOT about who he is now and I'm so proud of him. The Lazarus Tournament will forever be one of my favorite Damian runs.

Neither Damian nor Jon could ever have their Supersons dinamic again without it betraying so much of who they grew to be. Jon can never go back to being a naive happy child after all he went through, he learned so much about himself but also about the world, he is currently grappling with a huge moral dilemma and he doesn't know what to do, he just learned his country did a genocide (one that killed his now ex-boyfriend family and experimented on him!) and he still can't find in him to overthrow it but he also has to question himself because he did it before (as Jay rightfully pointed out) and if so what's the difference and what's the right path and is he on it? Jon has learned all the complicated realities of the world. Just like Clark once did.

And Damian cannot ever got back to being the "edgy", "serius" child that is the mature dark one but still childish. Damian is a teen. Damian healed, Damian discovered that he likes animals, and romance stories and he wants to be a doctor. He is so far removed for the kid he first was. Both of them are. Jon is a full own adult. He has been for 6 years now. Damian is 16!

They are so much more than those two little kids. They are so much more than their fathers sons. And bringing Supersons back as more than stories that happened in the past would be such a betrayal to both characters and a slap on the face of the people who are actually following them.

And that's not to say they can't become close friends again, specially as Damian is slowly getting to be an adult himself, but that they can never be who they once were.
