INTERNET STILL OUT KILL ME PLS
I’ll be on the dash tomorrow. My internet is trash
havlow:
“Hey, so…my mom made this sauce that’s extremely good but has a slight kick to it. Not sure you want a jar but, I brought you one anyways.” The girl smiled, taking the pint sized Mason jar out of her bag. She held it out towards the other. “It’s free and I promise, it’s good. I helped make it. Well, I chopped up the peppers and grinded them. It’s also made out of just a bit of bourbon. Hope you enjoy.”
“I’m never gonna say no to free food” The boy shrugged as the girl simply walked in through the back door. For Harlow, the door was always open “Whoa wait- you said you helped make it? Are you sure it’s edible?” he teased, taking the jar from her anyway “Thanks, I’m sure mom is gonna love this”
missmarks:
“You’re probably too young to understand.” She replies with a slight roll of her eyes before stepping up to the counter and ordering her lavender latte, paying for both of their items and giving the baristas a tip. Once her beverage is ordered, she doesn’t pay the boy any more mind and her stress melts away. She’ll have her caffeine soon enough.
“You’re like what? Ten seconds older than me?” He asked. Even if she wasn’t she definitely didn’t look like she could be that much older than he was “And what the heck is a lavender latte? Like a flower?”
missmarks:
She doesn’t have many vices. It’s something she remembers about her father, the smell of muchness-too much smoke, too much booze, too much of everything and not enough restraint. But she does have quite the addiction for coffee and this morning the person in front of her is testing her patience. They keep searching for their wallet and time is ticking by, finally she clears her throat before speaking, “I’ll pay for your coffee, just let me order mine.”
Evan glanced down at the petite woman who began to walk to her, not stopping the process of patting himself down trying to find “The withdrawal that bad this morning?” he asked, stepping aside to allow her to do what she needed to do. He hadn’t intended on letting her pay but in a town this small he was sure he could repay the favour at some point
vivhenley:
she doesn’t know why she showed up to this thing, a vigil in honor of a myriad of victims, how morbid did this town get? she counts herself lucky, that she hasn’t been offed yet. of course, that’s always subject to change. god, she doesn’t even know anyone in this town! let alone the people who were killed in this town.
about to head back to her dorm room, the harsh feedback of a microphone stops her. she turns just in time to see what looks like a scene from hitchcock’s rope. a man. strangled.
she’s dumbfounded. “this some kind of a skit?” she asks the person standing next to her.
“No,” Evan glanced down at the girl speaking to him, ripping his eyes away from the scene that was playing out in front of them “That’s- he’s the Police Chief” the ginger muttered, gaze falling back on the dying man, unable to look away “I don’t think this is a joke”
sophiedclton:
Sophie gave his words some thought when he mentioned her mother. “I know. She just - she tried so hard to cancel this entire thing and yet here we are.” Sophie rolled her eyes and then sighed. When he pulled her closer, she leaned into him, her head resting against his shoulder. This week had been beyond difficult and Sophie realized that Evan got caught up in the middle of it but she was unbelievably grateful for how patient he was with her. “I only came for mom and I can only tolerate being here because of you. So if you ask me right now, I’d much rather sit on the couch, munch on Pizza and be a little less sad for an hour or so while you update me on your stuff. How does that sound to you, handsome?”
“We can come back later for the vigil so you can be there for your mom if you need to” He suggested. He was alright with being at the event but it wasn’t his family basically being shit on with it. Evan was just doing what he knew he was supposed to at this time; being there for Sophie in any way she needed him. If that meant skipping things and three am phone calls then he would do it. “Or we could just find a place to hide and sneak away until you’re needed. I don’t mind either way as long as I’m with you”
magnoliacunningham:
she rolled her eyes. “i guess, but at least I didn’t name my child hashtag or something crazy like that.” she said and then snorted. “nor evan.” she teased him with a friendly smile. she shrugged. “i mean, i’m interested in history and i know a lot about that, but i don’t think that is necessarily a talent.” she explained with a shrug. “i’m not a musician, i can’t act very well, i am not particularly handy or artful. i just like to read… and i guess i like nature. i am not a talented person. i’m just… plain, old magnolia.”
“My name means God had been gracious, thank you. It’s a good name” He mocked offence but allowed the sentence to end with a boyish laugh, his head shaking disapprovingly. “I’d argue to say book smarts is a talent. I work my ass off just to stay on the varsity team and you just effortlessly spewed all this random information- kind of impressive from plain, olf magnolia if you ask me”
wtfcamerancooley:
Cameran smiled, it was rare for her to continue a conversation with someone on a good note. “It mean, it’s only twenty. So even if you would’ve kept it I think you and I both would have been okay.” She locked her phone, setting it on the bench next to her before diverting her attention back to Evan. “Corndog, really Evan? Gross - I don’t even want to begin the conversation of where those things actually come from. I’m more of a pretzel girl or a hamburger.”
“I guess you’re right. In this economy, twenty dollars isn’t much of anything. But we’re also young and dumb so twenty can actually be a lot” He mumbled, his voice trailing off as she allowed the subject to drop “What are you talking about? Corndogs are classic, all american snacks. Pretzels are okay but hamburgers? No way, not portable enough”
omgadamwilson:
“Fat ass?!” Adam huffed, leaning back in his seat to lift his shirt until his flat stomach was revealed. There was some muscle, but not much, and definitely no where nearly as built as his 18 year old cousin. “You could cut glass on these abs, alright?” He joked, patting the soft flesh of his tummy like there was a golden six pac to be jealous over. “What makes you think I’ve got money? College is expensive, man. Besides, Auntie Barb gives you money whenever you want and mine says I shouldn’t ask for handouts because it makes me sound homeless.”
“If you mean that harmless theatre glass made out of sugar and water, sure, I guess I could believe that” It took everything inside him not to smack the exposed skin with every ounce of muscle he had. Usually, he would, but the event wasn’t the right place for it “As if your mom doesn’t pay for your classes but whatever. It’s fine. Yet your teenage cousin pay for your cotton candy because your cheap ass can’t fork up a couple of bucks”
wtfcamerancooley:
“You’re actually returning my money, rather than keeping it for yourself?” Cameran smiled, appreciating the rarity of honesty as well as Evan having the cojones to approach her, given the mood she was in. “My bad, Evan. I didn’t realize… Thank you, truly.”
“I couldn’t live with myself if I kept it. I watched you drop it” And in truth, Evan didn’t need the money, he had more than enough of his own “It’s totally cool” he shrugged, glancing around them before his attention was placed back on the girl “You want a corndog or something?”
magnoliacunningham:
“laugh at me all you want. at least i didn’t name them some made up name.” she told him with a shrug. she smiled at his offer and nodded. “thank you, evan, i will keep that in mind.” she told him with a genuine, grateful smile. she always felt so happy when people were nice to her. she was tired of being laughed at, pointed at and called names for what she’d done and people just accepting her and offering help is amazing to her. “well, that’s great for harrison but he has an actual talent. i’m just a small town, teenage mother. we’re not really in the same league.” she said.
“Technically all names are made up so your argument is basically invalid there” He teased, keeping his usual youthful playfulness in his voice. He had never cared much for judging others, something his mother taught him; You never knew what people were going through “So,” he continued, eyebrow cocked slightly as he looked down at the girl he towered over “You have no talent what so ever? Not one ounce of it in any bone of your body? I find that hard to believe”
magnoliacunningham:
magnolia couldn’t help but laugh at evan’s comment. "well, i mean, they won’t stay this little forever and besides, i named him after paul verlaine, a french poet that i happen to love and august after augustus, the first emperor of rome who i just find super interesting.” she explained, realising that was probably nerdy and she cleared her throat awkwardly. she swallowed at his question and sighed. “uhm, not this school year obviously and really, i want to move forward with the boys so… i might take some evening classes… at some point… i don’t know, i don’t think more than a GED is on the table for me, not until these two go to school.” she told him, the regret probably obvious in her voice.
“It was a joke but thanks for the history lesson I s’pose” There was no malice in his tone, with Evan there rarely was. Instead, he offered the girl a warm, genuine laugh trying to make light of the awkward conversation they were having “That’s a bummer but like, if you ever need help with any of that I’m not the best at math but I’m pretty good in bio. If any of that is even needed for a GED. Just your friendly, neighbourhood Evan happy to help” He was rambling, something he did often “You know, Harrison Ford was like- super old when his career took off and look at him now”
omgadamwilson:
“You’re darn right it’s your treat,” Adam told the younger man, reaching across his cousin to grab an unnecessary handful of the cotton candy treat. “They call this diabetes on a stick, you know?” Despite this, Adam shoved a healthy portion into his mouth and made a face as the feathery substance instantly melted onto his tongue as pure sugar.
“As if your fat ass ever cared about the risk of diabetes” Evan retorted, handing the entire stick over to the older boy who had basically taken most of it to begin with. Evan ordered a second cone and turned back to Adam “You have to get the next round of whatever we’re eating” the redhead commented, putting a healthy amount of sugar into his own mouth
jasminebello:
the polaroid camera that would normally be up to her eye snapping away laid against her chest, there wasn’t a whole lot she felt was worth snapping a picture of and the only ones that really seemed to be enjoying the festival were under the age of nine. looking towards her friend she offered up a smile even if it was a small one, “is that even a question you have to ask ME?”
Evan would never say it out loud, but Jasmine was more of an escape these days than anything. She was the little ball of sunshine he needed after a tiring day spent with the Dalton’s. Not that any of that was their fault,, it just took a lot out of him to be around even his girlfriend during this grieving time. Jaz could always make him laugh.Which was what he did “Right, who am I even talking to?” he threw his hands up defensively “Lead the way, Tiny”
wtfcamerancooley:
“What?” Cameran barked, ripping her headphones out frantically. “Oh - it’s you. What do you need? Today is my first day off in weeks from both work and studying, the only people I want to hear from are Lana Del Rey and Mary Jane.”
“I-” Evan started, not really expecting the girl to be as snappy as she was. He held the twenty dollar note towards her, shrugging his arms and nearly regretting even speaking to the Cameran “You dropped this, figured you might want it back”
