daryl urging glenn to forgive merle, despite the fact that merle quite literally physically tortured him, with, “did he say he was sorry yet ? because he is. he’s gonna make it right. […] just needs to be a little forgiveness is all.” tells us so much about daryl’s skewed perception of what kind of behavior is worth forgiving 🥲 the way he automatically knows merle is “sorry”, despite the fact that merle had no issue harming glenn in the moment, and would likely do it again, and to daryl’s perspective, possibly hadn’t even verbally apologized for it yet, says so much about the cycles daryl lived through with him at home.

merle making “mistakes”, hurting daryl, putting him in dangerous situations, repeating cycles, following their fathers footsteps- abusing him, and then being “sorry”, because he knows daryl will forgive him. because he’s all that daryl’s got.

no matter what merle does, all daryl knows to do next is forgive him. all he believes is that merle is “sorry”, and that daryl himself needs to be better equipped for the next time he makes a mistake
