Engage Your Employees With Content Marketing
When we think about content marketing today, the typical buzzwords always pop up: brand awareness, engagement, and audience building. Every year, brands spend tons of money to improve their content, but why do you need to spend when you already have the resources in front of you? Your employees are the key to improve your content marketing. Below are 6 tips of employee-generated content that could help your business:
Style of Voice
Your employees are your most important asset to your content marketing. Employees who works in your company has knowledge of what your audience can benefit from. Allow your employees to engage with your customers because who knows your audience better than your employees. Let them engage with your audience in their own style, but just make sure it is appropriate and not in a corporate speak.
Variety of Bloggers
Have a variety of employees to contribute to your content marketing. Don’t just assign one person to do all the blogging because the same style of blogging can make your audience loose interest. Switch up your bloggers so that your contents are always unique.
Give Credit
Make sure to give credit to your employee. Display their names, titles, and even add a picture to expose them to your audience. By doing so, it creates a relationship among your employees and audience. Making your employees a star will reflect well on your brand. In addition, it will make your employees care more about creating great content, because it's theirs.
Ask Employees to Share
Perfect way to increase your audience is to share your content. The more shares you get, the more likely your audience is going to grow. Take advantage of your employees’ social media platform by encouraging them to share your content through their social media platforms.
Share the Results
A good content marketing strategy should include their measurement of your contents. After measuring your traffic and engagement, make sure to share it with your employees. If the feedbacks are positive, it would encourage and motivate your employees to keep on doing what their doing. As for negative feedback, it tells your employees that they need to do something different to improve their content.
In conclusion, I recommend employers to let employees manage the contents. Although you can easily outsource to freelancers, they do not know your brand as much as your employees does. In addition, you are saving money by letting your employees your brand’s content marketing.

Content marketing has played a huge role in a brand’s overall marketing. If your brand decides to use content marketing, you want to make sure you know how it work. Many brands are still unclear about which content works and what doesn’t.
According to Forbes, there are eight elements to consider before launching your content marketing strategy.
1. A Documented Content Strategy
As I mentioned in my previous posts, your content marketing goals plays a huge role in your content strategy. You should have a goal and create a content strategy to achieve that goal. First step to content marketing is planning your goal, your audience, and how your content can relate with them.
2. The Delivery Method
Your content marketing should not be focusing on selling your products. Your content should be valuable to your audience. You want to deliver fresh and unique content that would attract the attention of current and new audience. Delivery content that will attract audience to want to engage with your brand.
3. Measurement
After publishing your content, make sure to measure how well your content is doing. Measuring your content’s effective, allows you too see what content is working and what is not. If you’re content is not showing any growth in traffic and leads, do not continue wasting your time creating the same content. You can think of ways to improve the content or try another type of content.
4. The “Why”
You need to start by asking yourselves “why” before outlining your content and your plan for distribution. Spend time developing a strategy and research on how your going to reach your goal.
5. Your Target Audience
It is important to know who your target audience is. You want to create content that will entertain and educate your target audience. Think about what content your target audience wants to see and how that content is going to help your brand reach your goal.
6. Facebook Advertising
There’s a great chance that you might find your audience on Facebook. Using Facebook Advertising allows you to test your content across different audience and measure the results.
7. Your Messaging System
Before creating a content, think about the message you want your audience to receive. Knowing what message to send to your audience, allows you to determine which type content to use, and which theme and style is suitable for the message.
8. Facebook
Facebook is still the number one platform that brands choose to publish content. It’s a great platform if your brand is targeting ages of 25-43. You should focus on creating a attractive page and using simple advertising options that Facebook provides.
In conclusion, you want to create a content strategy that will continue to grow overtime. How often you publish a content, which social platform to use, and how you are going to measure the effectiveness of your content should be carefully thought out.
Fashion Industry: Content Marketing Is The Newest Trend
Content marketing is a vital for any industry. Whether content is in the form of blogs, videos, images, or digital magazines, it can help your brand build a wider audience and increase customer engagement. Lately, fashion brands have been using technology to get closer to their customers and offering them a unique marketing experience through content marketing. Last week, at New York Fashion Week, there was an increase of fashion brands who used live streamed to connect with their audience, creating a trend in the fashion industry.
Here are 3 digital content marketing trends that are trending in the fashion industry:
1. Real-Time Content:
The number trend in the fashion industry is using live content to create engagement with the audience. Fashion brands like Tory Burch and Kenneth Cole streamed their show live and posted backstage content in real-time using Google’s Lightbox. Kenneth Cole gained 8 times more followers and reached over 430,000 live stream viewers after streaming their show live. Real-time streaming is also great for behind the scenes, trade shows, sneak peeks of upcoming lines, model fitting, photoshoots, and much more.
2. Shoppable Images:
The second trend is to creative visual content that looks shoppable. The key is to make those images shoppable without showing their aesthetic value. A great example is fashion retailer Topshop who uses visual on their websites to prompt a “shop this page” window to appear. Audience who find the content appealing, can easily select their size and color for the items featured in the visual, allowing them to add it straight to the cart.
3. Engaging Social Media:
More fashion brands are starting to engage with their customer through social media and creating content that raise brand awareness, influence desires, encourage trials, facilitate purchases and create customer loyalty.
British luxury fashion house, Burberry, used Snapchat to reveal their Spring 2016 collection. Using snapchat is a great way to target new generation of consumers who are into fashion.
Instagram is also a great social media platform for the fashion industry. Instagram allows brands to showcase high quality visual content of their current collections, sneak peek of future collections, and behind the scenes. Burberry also makes a great example of a company that utilizes Instagram well. Most their contents are meant to influence desire, encourage trial, and create customer loyalty.
In conclusion, fashion brands could personalize their content to differentiate from other brands. There are so many type of content that every fashion brand should try. For example, styling tips, tutorials on how to wear an item, sharing images of customers wearing their item, and etc. Whether your fashion brand is big or small, you should be using content marketing. Content marketing is a great way to reach your customers.
Content Marketing vs. Native Advertising: Which Is More Effective?
When you see the phrase “native advertising,” what come to your mind? Do you think of content marketing? A lot of people mistaken that content marketing and native advertising are the same thing. You might want to note that the goals, benefits, and challenges for content marketing and native advertising differ from each other.
Content marketing is the process of creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content for targeted audience. Content marketing is an ongoing process that grows overtime and focuses on owning media, not renting it.
Native advertising is a form of paid advertising where the ad experience follows the natural form and function of the content of the media on which it appears. In native advertising, you are renting someone else’s content distribution platform. Some example would be advertorials in newspapers and magazines, advertiser funded programming on broadcast or web TV, and promoted or sponsored posts on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Below, I will compare and contrast between content marketing and native advertising.
Goals:
The goal of content marketing is to increase a brands search rank on search engine, raise brand awareness, social engagement, and conversions. Overtime, it will help generate sales or sales leads.
Native advertising goal is to raise brand awareness and social engagement, but it is secondary to selling a product or service.
Benefits:
Overtime, content marketing builds trust with audience and creates shareable content that will eventually lead to increase in search rank. In addition, it drives brand awareness, engagement, and optimized for conversions.
While for native advertising, it drives brand awareness and brand engagement.
Challenges:
Content marketing is a long-term investment with continuous engagement. It is not designed to drive traffic immediately, it takes time and effort to see growth.
Native advertising cost more than content marketing. It is often view as an ad because the “Sponsored” tag is applied to the content. Lastly, it lacks SEO benefits. Native advertising doesn’t help brand increase in search engine.
If executed well, both content marketing and native advertising provides useful information that can attract your target audience. Both can increase brand awareness, but content marketing can help drive conversions. Content marketing and native advertising should be working together instead of against each other.

Hitting a Content Marketing Plateau
Your content marketing strategy is meant to be steady, where it grows as time goes by. But what happens when your blog posts run into a wall, where traffic, followers, engagement, and readers as come to a halt? Don’t worry, there’s different ways that can get you out of this situation according to Huffington Post.
Invest more
If you are producing one or two content each week and getting steady rate of shares and engagement, but no growth, the problem might just be the shortage of content. Try producing more content than you usually do a week. The more content you publish, the more likely it will attract new audience and an increase of engagement and shares. Just remember, your blog should be interesting, compelling, and valuable.
Vary your format
If you are using the same format for every blog post you publish, chances are high that your audience is bored from your content. Seeing the same thing over and over again, makes it less compelling to audience. Try a different type of blogging format. If you are blogging long post every week, you might want to try blogging two short post instead. Keep your content short and valuable at the same time.
Include more Mediums
Try changing up your content strategy. Get out of your comfort zone and try creating other types of contents. If blogging is your only form of content, you might want to try visual contents, like videos, infographic, images, and etc. Visual content leads to higher engagement, and tends to be easier for followers to share.
Pursue a New Publication
Try identifying who your influencers are and ask them to guest blog. Audience tend to trust recommendations from third-party sources even more than the brand itself. When engaging with your influencers, it helps raise brand awareness, as well as encourage and raise action among their audience and their network. Influencers can increase your online exposure, selling your products or service even better than you do.
Try one or more of these suggestion to continue growing your audience. Keep in mind that your content should be engaging, educating, and entertaining. In addition, remember to stay focus of your content marketing goals and objectives!

Content Marketing: 5 Mistakes & How to Avoid Them
Your brand may face some hits and misses when it comes to content marking. Some strategies may work, while others may not. When it comes to content strategy, many brands do not realize the mistakes they are making until it's too late. They invest all their time and resources, only to lose it all because they failed to develop a good content strategy to market their content. The better you are at developing great content, the easier it is to build an audience that would engage with your brand.
It is easy for brand to make mistakes when it comes to content marketing. Here are the 5 common content marketing mistakes according to Content Marketing Institute.
Mistake #1: You give up
As Joe Pulizzi said, “Content marketing doesn’t usually fail because of content quality. The main reason is because it’s inconsistent or it stops.”
Many brands trash their content marketing after several months into them. Main reason is because content marketing takes too much time and effort. Most importantly, it does not drive any traffic. What brands do not realize is that it takes time to build your audience. Content marketing is not designed to drive traffic immediately. Content marketing is long-term with continuous engagement.
Mistake #2: You are focusing on quantity, not quality
Like I mention in my previous post, content marketing is about quality not quantity. Brands tend to focus on everything else except the quality of the content. There a lot of options on creating high quality content. Digital marketing expert Sam Ovens revealed that many brands fail to make contents that solves a problem. Brands tends to create content for the sakes of creating content instead of achieving their content marketing goals and objectives.
Many brands mistaken that the more content you publish the higher search engine will rank your website. Although it is true that Google loves fresh content, it cares more about the quality of the content. Google will likely to send traffic your way if your updating reliable and valuable content. Here are some tips that would catch the eye of Google:
Posting unique contents
Do not duplicate your content.
Use relevant keywords, but don’t overuse them.
Make sure your website doesn’t load slow.
Make your website easier to navigate by adding a sitemap.
Don’t overwhelm your audience with affiliate links or ads.
Create content that is relevant and trustworthy.
Include helpful features like takeaways, key data, explanations, videos, or images.
Mistake # 3: You aren’t marketing your content
Brands often forget the importance of sharing their content. You can not build audience unless you are sharing your content. There are 4 ways that can build your audience.
One way is by asking your brand’s influencer to promote your content. Their followers are likely to respond by taking action and spreading your brand out.
Second is to activate your followers and subscribers. You want to get your audience to be excited about your content so that they would share it to their social circle.
Another way is to create Google AdWords campaign. If your brand is still new, the best option is to pay for you content to be visible.
Lastly, share your content on social media. Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram allows audience to easily share your content.
Mistake No. 4: Your offerings have become passé
Brands tends to use the same type of content strategy, and that can get old. You want to create content that is unique, something that will attract your audience. If you are only blogging and publishing articles, you should be thinking outside the box. Start using visuals like videos and infographic to catch the eye of potential and current audience. In addition, you should be creating conversations with your audience and offering a glimpse behind the scenes of your brand.
Mistake No. 5: Your storytelling leads to a dead end
What brands fails to do is including call to action. The best way to build loyal and engaging customer is to asking your audience to take action. You can simply ask your audience to sign up for your mailing list, visit your website, and asking them to follow you on social media.
In conclusion, content marketing is a long-term commitment, not a campaign. Don’t give up thinking that it’s not helping your brand; give it some time. If your current strategy isn’t working, try a different strategy. Focus more on creating great content, instead of coming out with content that aren’t valuable and unique to the audience. Make sure that your promoting your content, otherwise your content would be a waste. Lastly, create content that would drive audience to want to engage with your brand.

Content Marketing: Then VS Now
In recent years, there has been major changes in the kind of content that is created and how its published. Many businesses are shifting from traditional marketing to content marketing (check out my previous post on traditional vs. content marketing). Due to technology innovation, it is a lot easier to get your brand out without having to invest a lot of money into it. With so many social networks, blog hosts, video sharing websites, and search engines like Google who domineer the internet, it is a lot easier for the public to explore and discover new content. According to Business News Daily, these are the 5 ways content marketing has radically changed, and where experts believe it will go.
From text to visual According to the CMO of visual marketing platform Curalate, Matt Langie says that it is all about pictures, not words anymore. Now a day, people are more likely to use an emoji to communicate an entire message instead of communicating in full text. Which is why people prefer communicating through pictures. Visual content not only catches the attention of your audience but it also makes them want to engage and share it with their friends and family on social networks.
Knowing your audience and what they want and need is crucial for any brand out there. To make your brand stand out from your competitor, you want to know what your audiences’ likes and dislikes. Some of the best ways to do that is through visual content like: videos, gif, infographics, visual blog posts, PowerPoints, images, memes, and etc.
Lowe’s makes a great example of a brand that is successfully executing their visual content marketing. Lowe’s Vine provides an excellent example of how they use visuals to create engaging visual content for their audience. Their Vine includes dozens of educating, entertaining, creative and interactive videos of home improvement ideas that make life at home a little easier.
From one-size-fits-all to personalized
SDL’s senior director of product marketing, Peggy Chen, said that brands used to focus on a one-size-fits-all content strategy. A strategy where one content was created to be used for everything, as well as being sent out to their audience the same way. Chen says, “single-channel distribution methods no longer cut it in a world where customers consume content at their own speed and on their preferred networks”.
Your audience could be everywhere and anywhere. Using multi-channel marketing allows your brand to reach potential and current audience through different platforms. It is important to know which social platform your audience is using, as well as the purpose of using it. Your brand should be segmenting your audience to truly understand their likes and dislikes. You should to delivering contents that your audience wants to see and engage to.
A brand using multi-channel marketing is Dove. They use different platforms for different purposes. For example, one platform is to create customer loyalty and raise brain awareness, while the other would be to facilitate purchase and encourage trial.
From quantity to quality Leeyen Rogers, JotForm’s vice president of marketing, said that audience gets overwhelmed by all the content that's available today, and spammed articles are no longer the way to go.
Several years ago, brands only cared about quantity over quality. Brands kept pushing out their content whether it was good or not. They were under the impression that the more and fresher content you published, the higher search engines would rank you. Although it is true that search engine likes fresh content, it also looks at the quality of the content. Updating your content often with reliable and valuable information, gives you a better chance of ranking higher on Google search.
Maybelline makes a great example of a brand that provides content with high standard. They provide content about makeup products, trends, videos, and tips.
From strictly informative to multifaceted and relatable Bryn Dodson, a senior content specialist at Blue Fountain Media, says “if you offer something truly useful to your customer, the rewards will follow. Traditionally, 'useful' meant 'informative,' but I'd argue that providing associations and experiences is becoming almost as important”. In other words, provide content that is more than just information about your brand’s product or service.
To engage with your audience, you need unique and valuable content. Be aware of what the current trends are and find ways to connect with your audience with it. In addition, you can share your brand’s story, behind-the-scenes, sneak peaks of new products, and etc.
Whole Foods makes a great example. They have a mixture of content, like healthy eating, recipes, farmer stories, tips, and etc.
From trial-and-error to data-driven Lauren Fritsky, senior manager of MediaMath, says “marketers initially did content marketing simply because were told they needed a website, a blog and social profiles”. Brands were pushing out content without measuring their results.
It is crucial to measure how well your content is doing. You want to know whether or not your audience is enjoying your content. Use tools to measure performance such as engagement, number of shares, and what your audience are doing before and after your content is published.
You can use tools like Google Analytics, where it provides you with information about your website’s performance and which content attracted the most customer engagement.
Stop Bullying Yourself & #SpeakBeautiful.
No human being is a perfectionist; we are all born with flaws. Women are constantly struggling with self consciousness because of society’s perception. In today’s society, we are constantly exposed to advertisement of perfect women and convinced that perfect is average. Society shapes our mind to believe that all women need to be a specific measurement and needs to look a specific way. As cliché as it may sound, beauty is all about being comfortable in our own skin.
The above video is about the collaboration between Dove and Twitter, where they launch a campaign called #SpeakBeautiful. In the past, Dove has launched a similar campaign called “Real Beauty”, where it aimed to inspire women to have the confidence to be comfortable with themselves and embrace their beauty.
According to Dove’s study, “8 out of 10 women encounter negative comments on social media that critique women’s looks”. With #SpeakBeautiful, Dove hopes to use their content marketing to change how women view and speak about themselves on social media. Twitter’s technology will help Dove identify negative tweets about beauty and body image, and Dove will respond to those tweets, encourage users to be more positive when tweeting about beauty and body image.
Overall, I love how Dove utilized their content to raise awareness instead of focusing on promoting their products. I’m expressed with this campaign because Dove tries encourage negative users to think in a more positive way. It’s a beautiful campaign that will get the audience to get involve with the campaign.
