My horse is prettier than me by a long shot
Equestrians with mental health disorders… I have a question:
1. How old were you when symptoms started
2. Did things get better or worse as you aged, and at what age(s)?
3. Have you had any concussions? How many, and how old were you?
4. Do you think a concussion impacted your mental health disorder in any way?
(Send me answers anonymously if you want!!)
1. Looking back, probably a kid (like 7 or 8) but everyone assumed I was just very sensitive and shy, self diagnosed at 18, officially diagnosed at 20.
2. It’s been up and down. Got worse until I was about 11, started getting a bit better, went downhill around 16/17 with pressure with school/exams, had a complete mental breakdown in my first year of university which was when I really realised there was something wrong and most people did not feel like that, has generally been getting better since then but still up and down depending on what’s going on in my life.
3. Not that I’m aware of.
4. N/A
It’s probably worth mentioning here that I did have a horrible riding accident, but was physically just a bit battered and bruised and a bit of whiplash (ambulance people said I was very lucky not to have a concussion). Mentally it really affected me. Having your one in a million horse, who is also your lifeline, your best friend and your reason for living when you’re verging on suicidal, die in your arms on the XC course does that to a person. The memory of falling, getting up and seeing her just lying on the ground, paralysed haunts me constantly. Afterwards I had a crash in my depression, my anxiety went through the roof (especially with riding and specifically jumping), and I developed PTSD like symptoms. I’m a lot better now, but still not back where I was, and it’s taken nearly 2 years to gain any approximation of the rider I used to be...
He was so good in our polework clinic today! This is the sort of frame we want to encourage consistently now, really stretching, moving forwards and softening.
Started digging thru thoroughbred peds for boghtmaw reasons and not only did I accidentally trace back to a horse with the same name as the boghtmaw, but found out that he was a grandson of the tumblr famous Potoooooooo and he was shot for not being able to service a mare
Racehorse history is wild
I love researching horse lineage, it’s super interesting. I can trace Henry’s ancestry back until the 1650′s which is awesome.
This is why it’s so hard to get a flattering photo of him
