trigger warnings: attempted suicide, disownment, depression, homophobia
Born into a wealthy and successful family, being both the only boy and the baby of the family, Everett never seemed to fit in, especially because he wasn’t planned. He and his older sisters were raised mostly by a nanny and were only ever with their parents when all three children were needed for a publicity stunt to make their parents look good. When out of the public eye the Daugherty children very rarely had contact with their parents. There was no need to be a perfect family all of the time if you made it look like you were when it really counted.
Throughout high school, Everett started to figure out who he was and met a boy named Owen whom he quickly got along with. It didn’t take much time for them to realize that they liked each other far more than friends, so they started dating, keeping it out of the public’s eye due to the stigmas and Ever’s family disapproving of anything but the norms. As they were nearing the end of school and making college plans together Ever’s family caught wind of their relationship and made their own plans for him without telling him. He would no longer be going to the same college as Owen, and he would not be staying in London at all. The news was broken to him while on a vacation before school began, and he had no choice but to go along with their plans. Which meant he ended up leaving Owen completely alone in their new apartment without ever reaching out to explain what had happened.
In Ever’s first year of college he made yet another big mistake in his life. He had started dating a girl to appease his parents and to help him get over his loss of Owen, but life had other plans for him. His girlfriend of the time fell pregnant and to say his parents were even more upset over this would be a huge understatement. First, he was dating another man and now he was having a child without being married, they no longer wanted anything to do with Ever and he was quickly disowned without leaving a cent to his name. There was no way the Daugherty family would allow any more out-of-character behavior from him and it didn’t seem like they had wanted to help him fix the mistakes in the first place. They’d rather get rid of the problem before anyone else saw what commotion he was causing them.
He was forced to drop out of college, and then his girlfriend left him, leaving him no contact with his child. Even with support from his own found family, Everett fell into a very dark depression and was a shell of his former self. One day while his roommate was at work, he attempted to take his own life, trying to spare anyone else the pain of having him around. Fortunately for Ever, he was found in time and was rushed to the hospital, saving his life.
During his recovery, he spent most of his time working on his art to pass the time, and on a whim, he decided that he would leave England and open his own tattoo studio once he was released. Trying to leave all of his pain behind and ended up settling down in Kismet Harbor, Oregon, and opening a tattoo studio called Inked Illusions where he started to do well for himself again despite the dark thoughts still swirling around in the back of his head.
Ever has since adopted a very exaggerated version of himself after the whole ordeal to help act as if nothing has gone wrong in the past and has kept it up for far longer than anyone would realize. He is known as a very outgoing person and rarely is without a smile on his face. Though behind the smile there are plenty of things hidden that he would prefer to never speak of again. He still has no contact with his family, not that he wants to, and has no idea where either of his exes has gone now. He copes with being alone by giving himself far too much work to do, smoking cigarettes as if his life depended on it, and always keeping his dog right by his side.
