Oberster SA-Führer and SS Member # 1 Adolf Hitler at SA Parade;

SS member rankings:
Hitler was considered SS Member No. 1,
Emil Maurice (considered the founder of the SS) was Member No. 2,
while Himmler was SS Member #168!
Based on the seniority system of SS membership number, this made Hitler senior in the SS to all other members even if not by rank.
After the Night of the Long Knives, when the SS became independent from the SA, Hitler was listed on SS officer rolls as Member No. 1 and considered supreme commander of the entire SS by virtue of his position as the Führer of Germany.
There is no photographic record of Hitler ever wearing an actual SS uniform nor was there a special SS insignia for Hitler above that worn by Himmler
Hitler’s uniforms represented his main affiliations:
SA brown shirts: 1925-1933
NSDAP Political Leader: 1933- August 31, 1939
Wehrmacht Commander in Chief: Friday Sept 1, 1939 - Tuesday March 20, 1945
[Note: although popularly believed the last photos of Hitler were taken April 20 1945, conclusive photographic evidence proves that the Berlin HJ awards, bomb inspection photos and the film footage was all shot on March 20, 1945, a full month prior to what was believed to be his last photo day.]
