Nao took a step back out of concern. She was trembling from head to toe with every word. What was with her? Somehow this just gave her a bad vibe she couldn’t shake. She had heard of Mayu Sakuma’s career and how something swayed her to be an idol. 

But for it not to make her happy?

Nao wasn’t sure if she could understand that herself… she was hesitant becoming an idol for sure. But standing on stage and being able to meet people. It really did inspire her and make her give it her all. Despite her initial thought it did make her happy.

“If you really want my opinion. I think the easiest thing would be to quit. Why continue doing something that makes you unhappy right? But… you don’t want that right? You wouldn’t be talkin’ if it was that easy right? You would have silently left the agency.”

Mayu went quiet as she listened to Nao speak. She bit on her lip and nodded. “... If Mayu-chan quits... then all her dreams are gonna fall apart,” she replied, sighing. “I thought if I was an idol, it’d just... fall together so naturally, but I’m still struggling. If I leave the agency, I don’t think I can have a happy ending,” she went on. “I don’t want to leave 346 Productions, I don’t want to be away from him-”

Mayu covered her mouth when that last word slipped out, praying Nao didn’t hear her.

“... I just don’t know what to do. I’ve never felt this way. Usually when I try hard things just... work out. But I don’t see an end in sight this time... but if I quit, I know for sure I”ll be even more miserable, way worse than before.”

Mayu didn’t think she was doing anything bad, really.

Love Live! was a rather intense competition, after all. And these girls, Aqours: they were a fan-favorite according to the polls. If the Cinderella Girls had any hope of getting ahead, they should learn everything about their competition. And nobody was better than Mayu Sakuma about learning about people.

Mayu had done intense investigation into these girls. Where they lived, the things they liked, their daily routines, so on and so forth. She looked down on a few pictures in her hand: a few hidden cameras on the roof of Uranohoshi’s roof had provided plenty of decent shots of the idols preforming. True, her fellow idols might not have approved of this method, but! She figured she owed it to them to try to give them any sort of edge. Especially if it’d get his attention if they won the Love Live!

So here she was in the Tsushima household, trying to figure out where the best spot in Yoshiko’s room was to put in a camera. It had to be discreet after all: it’d make a lot of problems if the police were called! All that added security and what not...

“Where to put you, where to put you~” she sung to herself, before hearing the sound of a door opening.

“... Eh?”

Mayu’s eyes shot open in alarm at a sound that was undeniably someone walking on the stairs. Did someone come home early!? This was bad! Bad bad bad! Hide, I need to hide! She thought in a panic before shutting herself into the ‘Fallen Angel’s’ closet, hand gripped tightly on the taser she brought with her.

She didn’t want to harm the other idol, but, if it meant keeping her face hidden...

Mayu tried to be as polite as possible as she approached the skater, smiling as she gave a flier to Yuuri in the park.

“Mayu-chan and her friends will be holding a free concert this Thursday at 6 for anybody who wants to come...”

“I’m not a happy person, Nao-chan,” it was very rare Mayu dropped her third-person referencing, not even facing her fellow idol to make eye contact. “Singing and dancing, performing, meeting fans, none of it makes me happy, Nao... I wasn’t happy as a model, I’m not happy as an idol either-!”

Mayu was shaking. She had given up one life in exchange for another believing it would bring her happiness, but if anything, it just hurt more than anything else. Because now he was there, but he didn’t love her back.

Good luck to you too!” Tsubasa said, her face tinted red as she bowed politely. “You’re… Mayu-chan, right?” Maybe it should have been obvious by what the other idol just said, but at the same time, maybe she was referring to a different Mayu? Either way, she did recognize the other idol from looking at the competition for the upcoming Love Live.

“I’m Mizuno Tsubasa from the Happiness Charge group! It’s nice to meet you!” Even if this older idol was a rival, that was no reason to be hostile, right?

Mayu kept smiling as she approached the other idol, giving a curtsey and nod in response. She had to be graceful, after all.

“Yes, I am Sakuma Mayu-chan~” she said as she extended her hand towards the idol. “Mayu-chan is from the Cinderella Project,” she went on. “Mayu likes to watch the performances of other idols to see who else will preform,” she paused, realizing that came out the wrong way.

“Oh, don’t misunderstand Mayu-chan! We’re not enemies or rivals: but it is still a tournament, you understand, yes? How about Mayu-chan buys you lunch for such a good performance?”

Mayu tends to refer to herself in third person: it’s just one of those “cute” quirk things she picked up early in life to try to stand out, and upon becoming an idol dedicated herself to it as part of her appearance as an idol.

“Mayu-chan is happy to make your acquaintance, she hopes we’ll have a wonderful time~”

However, when angry or upset she breaks this role and tens to speak normally. More often than not, it’s because she’s pissed.
