Sitting back, Newt stretched his legs out, feet close to the fire. He would have been up with the other boys, eating, talking, but his right leg was still healing from his fall. Mostly it was good to walk on but he avoided any unnecessary movements with it. Besides the night was cool and the fire was warm. He didnât need to be up and about to enjoy the moment of peace the gladers often took for themselves. When Alby had first proposed a party every month for the newest Greenie, Newt hadnât really seen the point in it. One of many reasons why Alby was in charge and he wasnât. He got it now, of course. They needed time to be boys. To let their minds relax and not think about anything other than goofing off. These parties had slowly become something that New actually looked forward too every month. Often, by the time they rolled around, he was itching for a night of fun.
He hadnât actually noticed that Gally was missing until he showed up out of no where, with ben right behind him. They came up from the other side of the fire pit and Gally was holding these jars. They were filled with a almost clear liquid that had a sort of brown tint to it. Odd. Ben, behind Gally just a bit, was wobbling everywhere. He had a huge grin on his face and kept laughing at the smallest of things. Now, Newt was well aware that sometimes Gally wasnât the easiest to get along with. A good man, yeah, he believed that but one who often had bad days. Something he could understand. Gally was just far more outwards with his feelings. Still, he didnât think Gally was bad. Though for a second, a moment, he thought maybe Gally had poisoned Ben. Seemed out of character, so Newt pushed the thought aside. âWhat sort of klunk have you got there, Gally?â Newt called out to him. Eyes narrowed slightly as he looked over the two of them and those jars once more.Â
The Greenie parties were so much more than just parties. Gally remembered far back to when Alby had proposed them, saying they had to have something to give everyone something to look forwards to, to show the Green Beans that they weren't as awful and strict as they seemed; that they all really knew how to have fun. Gally had been on board since day one. They all needed some time to relax and even a workaholic like himself could see that.Â
That was why Gally had proposed ideas that had stuck. Ideas such as the Ring and that games that came with it. It gave the Gladers a chance to just be boys and have fun, and what better way to do that than by wrestling and laughing together? The party was the perfect place to release some pent up aggression and laugh about it all in the end. It was good for the boys like himself who didn't dance around the flames or play any of their handmade instruments.Â
The Keeper of the Builders really got into this celebration because it gave him a way to express himself and work even though he wasn't actually working. Which is why he'd taken it a step further by figuring out a way to liven up the party even more.Â
The discovery of his Moonshine was an accident. He'd been lending Zart a hand after a request had been put in for some gates around the fruit trees because some dumb shanks were snagging a snack that they shouldn't be when they thought no one was looking. He'd stumbled across some fermented fruits that had been in the storage with some other ingredients. It got him thinking, wondering if some weird memory of alcohol could be brought into reality. Gally knew what alcohol was, but he didn't know how he knew or even how to make it.Â
It had taken him weeks of experimenting and having a lab rat, but he'd finally perfected it. His own brand of Moonshine, Glader style.Â
He was walking around and introducing it to the others, letting them try it for themselves after seeing Ben acting so...odd. He was already used to others asking him what he had up his sleeve ( or more accurately, what he had bundled in his arms ) that he wasn't even surprised when Newt called out to him.Â
A smirk finds its way onto his lips and he passes the former Runner a jar. "Try it for yourself if you're so curious."Â
