Hello friends! It’s been over a year since I drew a Hall of Famer but I’m back and I plan to stay back over the coming weeks and months. Since being laid off and getting married last year, other parts of my life have occupied too much space in my brain. I’m clearing a room for baseball legends, now more than ever considering how difficult it is to enjoy this year’s baseball “season” in a unfettered way.

I will be continuing to upload my drawings here, but I’ve moved away from the project’s old custom domain name. I’m also launching an Instagram to debut drawings as well as posting some favorites from the archives. Follow me there if that’s your thing.

To be honest, I wasn’t completely happy with this drawing of Jim Rice, but the spirit of this project has always been to embrace small mistakes and just let the drawing be what it is. Though I have occasionally been so lost with a piece that I had to start over, I generally use my first drafts for most of these. This project was 100% hobby at a time when I was working as a waitress. It opened up doors for me that helped lead to my career in digital media, but I want to always treat it as a passion project and a hobby that is for me and for baseball, but not for perfectionism or obsession. It’s really important (now more than ever as they say) for me to have a creative outlet that isn’t subject to the rigor of my main gig as Editor in Chief of Tenderly — it’s liberating.

Interesting that my last drawing was Rickey Henderson and today’s is Jim Rice — I attended the ceremonies in 2009, my first time at the Hall of Fame, and saw the induction speech I quote from here. I was there mostly for Rickey, but the passion of Red Sox fans who had been waiting 15 years for Rice’s induction truly moved me. I’m glad to be back, with him.
