Sunday Review: Me Too by Meghan Trainor
Following her smash first single NO, Meghan Trainor returns with Me Too, another self empowerment track where she proclaims “If I was you I would wanna be Me Too”. Staying true to her schtick, Meghan Trainor sings up and down this track about loving herself over a Will.i.am/Black Eyed Peas sounding beat. Although not produced by the famed artist (it’s actually produced by known producer Ricky Reed) the song sounds like it could easily pop up on the next Fergie album with Will.I.Am helmed as producer. On one side it’s good Meghan Trainor is branching out outside of her retro style we have come accustumed to hearing from her previous hits. On the other side we are in for another self-empowerment “I love me” track from her.
Now this isn’t something terrible as there is no problem with self proclaimed love but it has become a bit repetitive when almost her whole hit catalog is based around the same concept. On top of that Me Too isn’t exactly that much of a catchy track. Meghan Trainor’s vocals sounds pretty great here but everything else about the track screams album song and shouldn’t have been chosen as a single especially after her last hit NO that was pretty good. Overall Meghan Trainor has found her niche and a good one at that as she is charming, entertaining as well as a good vocalist and songwriter but for the Grammy winner I hope she has more in terms of future singles released from her second album Thank You.

Big shake up this week with Drake finally achieving his first #1 hit as a lead act with One Dance. He has previously topped the charts as a feature artist with Rihanna twice. Mike Posner reaches his highest peak ever as I Took A Pill In Ibiza reaches #4. Fifth Harmony also has a big week as they get their first top five hit as Work From Home makes it to #5. Surprisingly this is the first top five hit by a girl group since the Dixie Chicks hit #4 back in 2007. The Chainsmokers get their second top ten hit as their new song Don’t Let Me Down featuring Daya jumps seven spots to #7. This is also Daya’s first top ten hit. The new collaboration by Calvin Harris and Rihanna debuts in the top ten to no ones surprise as This Is What You Came For pops up at #9. This is Rihanna’s 28th top ten hit tying Stevie Wonder in fourth for most top ten hits of all time.
