I haven't seen homebound.. so I don't know if I'm right to comment.

But the narrative about india outside india is about casteism, poverty and inequity of opportunity. So obviously a movie that propagates this view is chosen by the academy, knowing full well that the narrative suits their stereotypes and prejudice.

I keep hearing it, and I agree with it more and more. India is terrible at branding itself, that's why we haven't moved on at all.
