How they’ve been coping with the accident: When Mercedes heard of the accident, she didn’t talk or move for a good ten minutes. The shock from the information simply overwhelmed her. Although they had grown apart somewhat, Quinn had been—no, was—her soul sister. They shared a house and, more times than not, a room during the blonde’s pregnancy. They had become closer than close, the two girls helping each other with their respective problems. And, thanks to the God Squad, the two were reconnecting, slowly but surely. But that was all meaningless, now.
Mercedes is not at all one to show her emotions to others. She absolutely hates it and feels as though it makes her look weak, something you can’t be at McKinley. However, these past few days of simply waiting and wondering have many of her feelings, even those not involved with the accident, surging forward. Mercedes still feels as though Quinn is one of her closest friends being that many of the things she told her she hasn’t told to anyone, including her family. She goes to church more often, now, using her spot as the head singer to project those feelings as well as praying more often. Those in the God Squad have helped each other and Glee club is more morose than anything. She still hasn’t talked to anyone about how she in particular feels about the accident, and she doesn’t plan to anytime soon.

The crowd roared in appreciation, in both happy and sad applause. The high from the concert still hung in the air, the buzzing infectious with glitter confetti littering the floor and stage, plastered onto the fans. Not that they cared. They had just been able to see one of the world’s best young performers sing; a Miss Mercedes Jones. The singer had taken her time to leave the stage, stopping occasionally to shake hands with a few of the fans that had been close to the stage. One thing she truly appreciated about her fame was the love and support of her fans. Without them, she would have broken a long time ago and simply given up.
The various calls of congratulations were heard as soon as the diva exited the stage, much to her surprise. The occasion was grand; she had officially finished her first European tour. A forced smiled became fixated to her face, the attention suddenly making the corset that she wore feeling a bit too snug. Her manager ran up to her, placing a hand on her chocolate colored shoulder and led her to her dressing room through the congratulatory and happy crew. Spotting her band to the side, the girl waved and mouthed a ‘Thank you’, quite a few of them waving back, her drummer even bowing. The singer giggled at this, but soon realized her manager had been talking to her all this time. She figured a nod was sufficient, seeing as they had reached the door labeled with her name in large metallic gold letters. She waved him off, nodding once more, telling him that she would meet him on the tour bus in a few.
The sound of the door closing was a relief to Mercedes, a sigh protruding from her mouth as she slumped back against the door. Her airway became unrestricted once more and she rubbed her sore cheeks lazily. The dressing room wasn’t anything special; the wallpaper was a simple baby blue, white carpet decorating the floor. The furniture was plain as well, a crème-colored couch and side table sat on one side of the room with a white boudoir placed on the other. She made her way over to the dresser, taking a seat on the plush stool in front of her. The girl didn’t bother looking in the mirror; she didn’t want to see the mixture of emotions that were present in her eyes.
The feelings she had been fighting for months now had come back in full force tonight. Why, Mercedes didn’t know exactly, but she did know that keeping them hidden was becoming increasingly more difficult. The fact that she was just so damn lonely was something she was forced to come to terms with. The life of an internationally renowned singer had its downsides. This was just one of them.
Mercedes finally looked into the mirror, and simply stared at herself. Her face was a bit damp from the sweat of performing, various strands of dark hair sticking to her face and neck. Her pupils were enlarged and wide, the high of the concert still present within. The pink lip gloss that had been applied at the beginning of the show was gone, not a trace of it left on her plump lips. The singer gave a small sigh, pursing her lips together, and noticed the photograph fixed to the mirror. She had attached it with a flimsy piece of tape earlier on in the day before the sound check had begun. The photo pictured a line of teenagers dressed in brightly colored clothes, sitting on a park bench in what seemed like New York. Mercedes cherished the photo like no other. It reminded her of simpler times; back when a difficult decision was what shoes to wear to school.
Taking the photo off of the mirror, Mercedes leaned forward on the dresser, placing the photo on the smooth surface, holding her head in her hands. She looked intently at the photo with her brown orbs, simply remembering. These people had been her rock back in high school, her second family. Although they hadn’t gotten along at all times, it was understood that there was a certain love that bonded them. She missed them unconditionally.
And she couldn’t stop the tears no matter how hard she willed them to.
