Hey, y'all!

So, my name is Maddie, and I'm just now starting out in both Dark Academia AND Tumblr. I've mostly lurked on here while scrolling through DA and writing posts, but I thought I might actually start posting and stuff. I'm not sure if anyone will see this, since I currently have zero followers, but if you do see this, that's actually pretty cool imo.

Now enough about my Tumblr. As I've said, I'm pretty new to DA. I don't currently have the actual style down yet (I'm still looking into that), but I've done a lot of stuff that could be considered sorta DA, like:

I may not be in a private school, but I secretly love school even though some of my friends think I'm insane

I read a lot of classic literature. Right now I'm actually reading Wuthering Heights

My current sense of style includes a lot of darker colors -- mainly black

I'm beginning to read and write poetry

I LOVE giving and receiving handwritten letters

Autumn is my favorite time of the year and I dress like its Autumn year round

   since i’m starting to work on getting my own Grimoire better organized and figuring out what i think fits best in it for me, i feel like i should log some ideas that have helped me in my journey in hopes that it could help someone else just starting out. but just remember that your Grimoire is your own and personal to you and you alone so you don’t need to put everything in if it doesn’t vibe well with you or doesn’t fit into your craft. your book should hold things that are personal to you and your craft and what you believe and you don’t need to have every bit of knowledge in your book.

   obviously you can pick and choose whatever works best for yourself and your craft, and i don’t even have some of these in my own book but still thought they would be helpful to include for witches like me who are just starting out who need ideas of what their books can hold! i’ll probably start posting more about my grimorire and how i keep it organized as well!

What to do if witchcraft suddenly gets way too intense

1. FINISH WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

► DO NOT walk away from an uncompleted ritual

► DO NOT walk away in the middle of a spell

Grab your notes and close everything down. Dismiss any spirits or entities you are working with. Close down the circle. End the ritual. Diffuse the energy of the spell and close it down. If you were enchanting an item, announce over it that it is closed and nothing more may come in or out.

Spells and rituals are little portals of power; if you leave one open without closing it, all sorts of things could get screwy and come through.

2. End any spooky/witchy atmosphere immediately.

Blow out all the candles.

Put out all the incense.

Turn on all the lights.

Turn off spooky chanting music. Turn on some happy music or better yet, a non-supernatural television show or movie you love.

If you were enchanting an item, immediately put it in salt.

3. Don’t destroy the items/notes you will need later.

Trust me, do not throw away the spell you wrote or the objects you were working on. If things go wrong in the future you will need these to fix the problem.

► Immediately write down exactly what happened. Write down every deviation from the spell that you did. Write down exactly what you said and saw during any visualizations. Write down exactly when things started to get freaky.

► If you were enchanting an item, keep it in a black bag filled with salt until you are ready to deal with it.

4. Cleanse.

Use an energy cannonball to purify the space you were working in. Burn rosemary and bay leaves to fumigate the area, or spritz a premade water solution if you can’t have smoke. Pay special attention to all ritual tools.

If you feel the need to, cleanse yourself by visualizing the power of the smoke enveloping you and driving away any bad vibes; or take a shower if you really feel something has gone wrong.

5. Get out of the area you were working in.

Go to another room. Leave the house if possible. Seek the company of others or turn on the television if you are alone.

6. Do mundane things for a while.

Eat a nice meal. Drink a big glass of water. Go for a jog. Do some chores. Put anything magical totally out of your head. Absolutely do not focus on how weird things just got.

7. When you are ready, return to the area you were working in.

Relax yourself and judge the energies within the room. Are things still ‘creepy’? A heavy-duty cleansing is in order. Do you feel as if someone else is there? Open a window and command it to leave - if it does not, more fumigation or a banishing is required.

Judge your ritual tools and determine if they will need additional cleansing. If you were working on an object, determine if it has been corrupted or if anything is wrong with it. If so, put it back in the salt and deal with it as soon as you can.

8. Take a break from witchcraft for a couple of days.

9. Figure out what went wrong.

Fear is never a good thing. There is a difference between embracing the darkness and being afraid.

► Fear can be caused if an entity showed up you were unprepared to deal with.

► Fear can be caused if your intuition (or perhaps a spirit ally) was warning you that what you were about to do was a really bad idea.

► Fear can be caused if you tap in to powers that overwhelm you.

You need to figure out what went wrong. It isn’t a situation where you can say “oh well” and try something else later - because you screwed up, and next time you may not get an adequate warning before things go to hell.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read this, save this, etc!! It’s VERY important!! Before coming across this post, I had this very thing happen….. I’m in the middle of casting, within my circle, & I got this OVERWHELMING feeling of fear, terror, MORE than just one feeling, & I didn’t know what to do. I froze & the only thing that I could think was….“What should I do? Do I break my circle, or cut it, or just flat out get the hell outta here?? It was VERY scary!! Then, just like the blog tells you, I wasn’t sure what to do with my spell & spell items.

I hope this doesn’t happen to a lot of Witches, but the risk is there if your casting and/or working with spirits. So plz, just be MINDFUL of WHAT you’re doing, & the ATMOSPHERE around you!! And ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP PLAN OR A “BACKDOOR” OUT!! 😊👍🏻❤️🔮

What to ask tarot

So tarot card questions are actually a lot different than asking a specific question. You wouldn’t say, for example, “Is my dad going to graduate?” because if you got the 3 of cups, you would be utterly confused as to why I did not provide a yes or a no. So below I am going to list questions that are good to ask the cards. 

• I’m at a fork in the road. Which way should I go?

• How do I weigh out the choices I have? What are the Pros and Cons?

• What do I need to know to make the best decision? What do I need to know?

The Great Goddess Hecate (Hekate)

Who is Hecate? She is the Goddess of Witchcraft, Necromancy, Ghosts, Magic, and, in some instances, the Night, Darkness, The Mist, and Moon. For some She is also the goddess of motherhood, protection, and the sea. She is a Hellenic deity, born of the Titans Asteria and Perses. There’s a few beliefs circling around Her being a crone goddess or a Triple Goddess, but those are modern and neopagan beliefs—which She predates. I also consider Her to be a part of the Chthonic deities.

Symbology: Black dogs, Wolves, Keys, Torches, Flames, Torches, Crossroads, Serpents, Daggers, Birds of Prey (crows, ravens, owls), the Moon, witchcraft tools (such as cauldrons, tarot, athames)

Offerings & Devotional Acts for Her:

Figurines of any of Her symbols

keys, skeleton keys, lockets

fire witchcraft and candles, flames, matchsticks

dedicating any lunar or symbolic jewelry to Her

black/dark crystals such as obsidian and onyx

nocturnal animal imagery

Taking midnight walks, setting up altars and rituals at crossroads, paying respects to the dead and practicing your craft in a cemetery 

Any playlists, poems, literature, whether it be your own or just a piece you associate with Her, also make wonderful offerings. 

Lunar Influences & Connections: Reaching out to Hecate tends to work best at night, and really any time the moon is at it’s peak. The Witching Hours, midnight to 3A.M., during strong lunar influences (blue moons, blood moons, eclipses, new moons, etc) all hold strong bonds with Hecate. Also, any time it is particularly foggy or your surroundings are covered in a mist is a good time to try to connect with Her.

Pendulums

A pendulum is a sacred object hung off of some kind of string/chain. It can be a necklace, a crystal hung from a string, or whatever a witch can get her hands on. It is recently becoming more common knowledge that it is fairly easy to make a handmade pendulum, which is fortunate for witches who are closeted or cant afford to spend money on something such as an expensive pendulum. In order for it to work, you need a pendulum board, as it is a tool for divination and a board helps you to decipher messages from deities, spirits, and similar otherworldly beings. The one consistent thing about a pendulum however, is that it must be hanging by at least 8 inches to give it room to swing, and the end must contain a symmetrical, well balanced but small weight. Dowsing is finding the unknown

In witchcraft, certain colors have correspondences that you’ll notice throughout your craft. It’s important to remember these for things such as Candle Magick and reading auras.

I feel like the one of the witchiest things I did when I was younger was refuse to dress up as a witch because I hated the way they were portrayed (the green faces with warts and always being older women; plus, them all being evil).

Like, I also did other witchy things, such as collecting rocks and stuff, but I would not, under any circumstance, dress up as a witch.
